Not at all. It is a change of position like an electron in an atom. It takes very little energy and then it changes position without traveling through the space between the points.
The points don't change position and the electron doesn't move. It just changes its point of existence. No change in time, distance or speed.

I've never seen one with my own eyes, but I find it hard to believe that with as big as the universe is, and as many galaxies that they say exist that we are all here alone. There's gotta be some other species out there. Just hopefully not a species like the one from Independence Day
