Snowed most the day but no real build up. Currently 7 feels like-3 with wind. It’s a cold 7! Friend in ND has -13 and -48 with windchill 🥶. In such a case, you might say I can’t complain to which I would respond- wanna bet. 😉

At 9:50 on Friday night it's 72 degrees.
Supposed to be in the low 30's by Monday morning.
Fear not, it will get there :(.
When the backside moved past us today, the temp nosedived from 68° to 47° in just 8 hours:oops:.
...We finished wrapping plants today for the coming freezing temps:mad:.

What are you doing down there that is making your weather so angry? 🤔

I wonder if they sell some sort of blankets that I could wrap on my cows. Red one might let me put something on but the other one might not. They aren't used to weather getting too cold. They can take refuge in the remains of the barn and huddle together, but I really need a new barn.

It was chilly outside but I didn't pay attention to the temperature when I went out. Very early in the morning it was extremely windy and the power kept blinking on and off. Went out for several minutes and then came back on while I was calling the power company to report the outage.

I moved my 4 potted plants in the house for a few days... don't want to lose them. All the rest of my plants are wild, they do fine all by themselves. :)

Our cows just huddle up in the timber when it gets cold. I have lost some new born calves due to the cold before. If the cow doesn't clean her calf up right away it'll freeze. During calving time I usually go out every hour or so all night long and ride through the herd looking for new borns. Sometimes I'll carry a weak one back to the house and lay it out in front of the wood stove to warm up.

Today is artic air day here! Front should be through here by noon. Not bad this morning, 29°, no wind. Single digits tonight, ice/snow starting tomorrow! Not above freezing again until Wednesday!

We have the exact same thing. Only 16 now, and will stay this way for the next four days. Must be a giant front.

You would be wasting your money. They would eat and/or pull off the blankets, trompel what's left and crap on them. They need a wind break first and foremost and shelter from cold rain.

It’s damn cold here this morning!

28 here this morning, coldest so far this winter. Not supposed get out of the 30's today. The weather folks are predicting snow for monday. We get one of 2 dustings each winter, not an issue. The problem comes with over 3 inches, there are no snow plows or salt trucks to keep roads open. It gets packed into a sheet of ice that stays until it gets warm enough to melt.

It's warming up here. -38C/-36F. In a few days, it is projected to be -25C/-13F.

LadyLocust, I missed your post about the trees. Nothing will save fruit trees and bushes at -45C. The cold tolerance ends at -40 and that is mostly bunk as well. This is not a fruit growing area, but I thought I would give it a try with some Russian varieties.

On another note, my lilacs that I dug up and brought in because they are small and broke dormancy, are blooming.
As they say in North Dakota when it is so cold, but warming up, "You're having a heat wave."

It is warming up here as well. It is now -5 degrees, up from -8 (I think).
When I am in the bathroom, brushing my teeth, I usually look out to see what it looks like outdoors. I saw that my neighbor had cleared the walkway from the back door to the garage door, while wearing shorts, slip on shower shoes, no socks, a short sleeved shirt and a stocking hat. It is not uncommon to see guys wearing shorts on days like today. But while I was driving to feed a cat, I saw many people out shoveling while bundled up, some even wearing face coverings (balaclava).

Knock on wood...
About noon Saturday 13th... Knock on wood.. We are now a little over 24 hours late for the winter storm that was supposed to hit... Not a new flake of snow at this hour.. Temp are colder than an old girlfriends heart.. Temps 5/-10F today.. Overcast again today or it would likely be colder.. If, when the wind comes wind chills to be -35F... All this supposed to come from the south east.. Unusual direction for a storm for here.. Predicted to be this weather through next Wednesday..

So.... Last Thursday we braved a short grocery run to top off a few things.. Ready and able to hunker down and wait it out.. I got a half grocery bag of paperback western books from the in house library... Current one I'm reading I have a wagon train of supplies to get to the gold mining camp past the Shoshone war party... This story set where I grew up in the eastern Rockies..

All take care..
