-3 right now here is NW Iowa. They're saying Tomorrow, Sunday and Monday it will not get above zero degrees! GRRRRR!
Fear not, it will get there .At 9:50 on Friday night it's 72 degrees.
Supposed to be in the low 30's by Monday morning.
What are you doing down there that is making your weather so angry?Fear not, it will get there .
When the backside moved past us today, the temp nosedived from 68° to 47° in just 8 hours.
...We finished wrapping plants today for the coming freezing temps.
... Talking to Pearl. What are you doing down there that is making your weather so angry?
They have them on the Zit... calf, cow, horse...I wonder if they sell some sort of blankets that I could wrap on my cows. Red one might let me put something on but the other one might not. They aren't used to weather getting too cold. They can take refuge in the remains of the barn and huddle together, but I really need a new barn.
It was chilly outside but I didn't pay attention to the temperature when I went out. Very early in the morning it was extremely windy and the power kept blinking on and off. Went out for several minutes and then came back on while I was calling the power company to report the outage.
Our cows just huddle up in the timber when it gets cold. I have lost some new born calves due to the cold before. If the cow doesn't clean her calf up right away it'll freeze. During calving time I usually go out every hour or so all night long and ride through the herd looking for new borns. Sometimes I'll carry a weak one back to the house and lay it out in front of the wood stove to warm up.I wonder if they sell some sort of blankets that I could wrap on my cows. Today is artic air day here! Front should be through here by noon. Not bad this morning, 29°, no wind. Single digits tonight, ice/snow starting tomorrow! Not above freezing again until Wednesday!

As they say in North Dakota when it is so cold, but warming up, "You're having a heat wave."It's warming up here. -38C/-36F. In a few days, it is projected to be -25C/-13F.
LadyLocust, I missed your post about the trees. Nothing will save fruit trees and bushes at -45C. The cold tolerance ends at -40 and that is mostly bunk as well. This is not a fruit growing area, but I thought I would give it a try with some Russian varieties.
On another note, my lilacs that I dug up and brought in because they are small and broke dormancy, are blooming.
I have some friends right in that-68 spot. She texted to tell me. It’s the coldest it’s been since they’ve lived there. Not me, but North Dakota. Be glad if you are somewhere warmer.

I feel like this is payback for your really hot temps this summer! This morning it was-7 or -8, high today was 3 or 4. I don’t think we are supposed to go back below zero tonight but we’ll see. It’s cold.
