We walk and drive on snow and ice for six months out of the year. So we're prepared for it. Our vehicles are all 4 wheel drive, all have adequate anti freeze, arctic washer fluid, studded tires and tire chains. Every building has a snow shovel and a bucket of sand or snow melt by the door. In the fall I have the propane tanks topped off (1,000 gal) and the bulk diesel and gasoline tanks filled. I have 5 spare generators to backup our main backup generators. I've got 3 snow plows and 2 snowblowers.
This is what it takes to live where we live. I can understand why southerners don't have this level of winter prepping for an area that seldom sees cold temps or snow. What I don't understand is how many preppers there are that don't even have a generator for emergencies. To me that is about the most basic prep item there is.

We have 2 generators, heat with wood, didn't miss a beat during any power outage, even the five day one! Our house is extremely insulated, which is nice during heat and cold ! I didn't grow up down here and worked on a ranch up home, outside, everyday winter and summer!! I used to love winter!! I DO NOT NOW!! I am a summer gal now! Artic blasts are now a hindrance and a nuisance, but they do happen and that's why we 7 cords of wood cut, split, and stacked right now!! I am very well prepared for whatever comes my way!! And for the record....I DO NOT HAVE TO LIKE COLD WEATHER!! I live exactly where I want to live! And I live here because I like to be outside enjoying the type of weather I like!

My prepper back up for power is living in the capital. We rarely are without power no matter how bad it gets and even the one or two time we lost power in the last 40+ years it was never out very long. Those government checks must go out don't you know plus we have so much political hot air especially this time of the year as the legislature is meeting. Probably why it's so warm up here.

I clean for a couple who live a couple of blocks from the hospital in town. They have lived there 32 years and if the power goes out, it's restored very quickly!!

Cold weather sux! Admit it.

What do you mean no generators? I have 3. This is hurricane country where the power might be off 2 weeks. Every one I know has generators, even the non-preppers have them! Generators are as necessary as airconditioning in august!

It was 9 degrees this am and painfully cold. They said it wouldn't get above 32 degrees for very long so next to no melting. Thank goodness it started melting around noon, I don't get along with winter. Yeah, we still have some snow on the ground but alot less than the 7" we had.
I have 6 hens and still got 2 eggs yesterday and today.

We are under a 'boil water' advisory.
Water pressure is down to about 10psi, meaning the stream from the faucet is about the diameter of a pencil.
It's been years since we had a hard freeze, and I forgot it happens when all the busted pipes thaw and start spraying water.
DW has us prepped with 20 gallons of tap water in jugs to flush with, and 22 gallons of unopened jugs of store-bought drinking water to drink. 😍
...I'm good on beer!
