The lady is making something today called "Tom & Jerry" batter. It's sounds like it's eggs, powdered sugar, butter, cinnamon and nutmeg and ends up as thick as ice cream. You add a scoop of it to hot water then pour in 2oz of dark rum. I am being told it's like hot eggnog with a kick.
When I was in college in South Dakota, this was a thing for the drinkers this time of year. I was still trying to drink and before I realized it just made me really sick. I could never get past a taste or two of Tom and Jerry's.

Tom & Jerry (the drink)

First prepare a batter, using a mixing bowl. Separate the yolk and white of one egg, beating each separately and thoroughly. Then combine both, adding enough superfine powedered sugar to stiffen. Add to this one pinch of baking soda and 1/4 oz. rum to preserve the batter. Then add a little more sugar to stiffen.

To serve, use a hot mug, 1 tablespoon of the batter dissolved in 3 tablespoons hot milk. Add 1 1/2 ounce rum. Fill the mug with hot milk within 1/4 inch of the top of the mug and stir. Add 1/2 ounce brandy and sprinkle a little nutmeg on top.

Somewhere I have a Tom & Jerry punch bowl with cups. I always wondered what the drink was like.
Recipe in above post and again here.

That's similar to what she made. This is her recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 12 large eggs, separated and room temperature
  • 1 pound (4 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 3 pounds confectioners’ sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon ground allspice

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Batter: Beat egg whites and salt until stiff peaks form. Fold in 1/2 cup confectioners’ sugar. In a separate bowl, beat egg yolks until thick and light-colored. Stir in marshmallow cream (not included in the original recipe, but a common addition). Fold egg white mixture into egg yolk mixture.
  2. Add Butter: Gradually add softened butter to the batter, beating until fully incorporated.
  3. Assemble the Drink: Spoon 2-3 heaping tablespoons of batter into a large mug. Add 2 ounce of rum (or brandy). Pour in boiling water to fill the mug 3/4 full. The batter will rise to the top. Sprinkle with nutmeg.

Thank you. We used to have a large batch of it back in the day, but I do not remember the butter. I do remember hot buttered rum being a winter beverage though.

I'm the wine hound in the family; the wife normally just drinks beer. But, she suggested we watch a documentary on wine. I had just bought a wine from Georgia (the country, not the state), where I knew they had discovered the earliest evidence of wine making, dating to 6000 B.C. ... 8000 years ago! It is made from grapes indigenous to Georgia, and I bought it just to taste what they might have been making back then. Sure enough, they talked about it on the documentary.

Honestly, the Georgian wine was not that bad. But, it was a white wine, and I have found that white wine is usually better than red when you go to specialized regions.

A little Yukon jack on the rocks in honor of our first decent snow fall.

And of course some Robert Service poetry.

Till I came to the marge of Lake Lebarge, and a derelict there lay;
It was jammed in the ice, but I saw in a trice it was called the "Alice May."
And I looked at it, and I thought a bit, and I looked at my frozen chum;
Then "Here," said I, with a sudden cry, "is my cre-ma-tor-eum."

Some planks I tore from the cabin floor, and I lit the boiler fire;
Some coal I found that was lying around, and I heaped the fuel higher;
The flames just soared, and the furnace roared—such a blaze you seldom see;
And I burrowed a hole in the glowing coal, and I stuffed in Sam McGee.

Then I made a hike, for I didn't like to hear him sizzle so;
And the heavens scowled, and the huskies howled, and the wind began to blow.
It was icy cold, but the hot sweat rolled down my cheeks, and I don't know why;
And the greasy smoke in an inky cloak went streaking down the sky.

I do not know how long in the snow I wrestled with grisly fear;
But the stars came out and they danced about ere again I ventured near;
I was sick with dread, but I bravely said: "I'll just take a peep inside.
I guess he's cooked, and it's time I looked"; ... then the door I opened wide.

And there sat Sam, looking cool and calm, in the heart of the furnace roar;
And he wore a smile you could see a mile, and he said: "Please close that door.
It's fine in here, but I greatly fear you'll let in the cold and storm—
Since I left Plumtree, down in Tennessee, it's the first time I've been warm."

I am drinking a DRAM, Alpine berry flavored with 25 mg + hemp, a sparkling switchel. It comes in a can like a soda. Someone recently gave me one and suggested it helps them to sleep better. I get it at my local Sprouts. It is around 3.50 a can. It comes in different flavors.

The ingredients sound great. I like vinegar but I doubt I could drink 12 ounces if it tastes like vinegar.
CBD tends to make me sleep. I will take a look though.

My preferred drinks are unhealthy so I am embarrassed to mention them here.

I don't drink alcohol. I had about an ounce of Bailey's Irish Cream on New Year's Eve.... and it just didn't sit well on my stomach so hubs will have to drink the rest of the bottle. Me and my meds just don't do well with anything alcoholic so I will just not even try. I never think of it anyway, so it's no big loss.
