Had the family and grandkids over...pretty much a general feast. Barbequed ribs and tri tip, dutch ovened fish and fresh veg. Fresh breads, a "healthy" potato salad with beets and cucumber with a yogurt sauce, cheese and broccoli rice, corn on the cob, watermelon, strawberries, cantaloupe. Brownies and white cake with buttercream frosting. Not very many leftovers. Those grandsons put down a lot of food.

Can you please post the recipe for the cheese broccoli rice please?

Thank you.

It was a cheat, TankGirl. It was Knorr cheese broccoli rice I got for 89 cents a pkg. I pulled three packs from storage. I'm sure it can be easily made with white rice, cheese powder and dehydrated broccoli bits. I store a lot of Knorr rice mixes, and buy when they are on super sale. I think we have a two year supply. It actually can be a main dish instead of a side dish if a little canned meat is added to it.

Thank you anyway AH.

I'll see if I can dig up a "made from scratch" recipe on Yummily.

Yesterday we traded 8 stubbies of beer we got for free from a friend from a failed homebrew for a 3kg leg of pork. I will emphasize neither of us drink alcohol and neither does our friend who will use the beer for traps for insects that are attacking his vegetables. We have given him a few bottles of beer before as well so he said since beer costs a fortune it was worth a trade for the pork he produces on his property.

Which brings us to what we had for dinner which was roast pork with turnips and sweet potatoes picked from the gardens and potatoes all cooked in our large roasting tray. We had enough pork left over for 2 more meals for stir fries that we froze and another portion for sandwiches tomorrow. We cooked extra potatoes and sweet potato in the roasting tray that we will use to make sweet potato and potato soup. The sweet potatoes were ones we hit with the shovel when harvesting them and were split or cut in half so we washed them and used them, waste not want not :D . Our favourite part of course is the crackling yum yum.

I love the Knorr rice and pasta dishes.. Their great for meals. Especially when you get creative with them.

After a Dr. appointment today I drove back trough the big town. I stopped at the good deli and got potato salad and roast beast! So dinner was roast beast on french bread, lots of horse radish and cheese melted on top, love this open faced sandwich. I had potato salad and banana peppers on the side. Yummy! The deli also has pre-made tea. Honey and ginseng added I think, I just know its really good. I'll get a gallon once or twice a month as a treat!
