Thankfully I put some pork in the crock pot before work. I didn't get home till 7. Had put already cooked corn on the cob in a big pot of water. Just turned that on when I walked in the door. Also sliced a big plate of cantaloupe this morning before work. The minute I came in grandkids were asking about dinner. It was ready in 15 min.

I dislike buying produce at a grocery store. I avoid it when I can. I especially hate store bought tomatoes. This winter I found that I actually like small cherry tomatoes from the store.

I hate store bought cantaloupes also but yesterday I was craving cantaloupe. After an arduous journey to the big city for a doctor’s appointment I stopped in the big town on the way home for a few groceries. They had a big display of cantaloupes. I pick each one up and smelled it. I felt the eyes of lady a few feet away staring at me.

Finally, she asked what I was smelling for… despite having grown and sold a few thousand melons at the farmers market I didn’t have the vocabulary to explain the scent I was searching for. In the end I found an almost perfect cantaloupe, I’d score it 96/100.

Today after my 15hour nap I made a late lunch. Roast beast sandwich – boar’s head roast beef on lightly toasted french bread w/mayo, diced cherry tomatoes, lettuce and onion… plenty of fresh cracked pepper and coarse salt. And 3 slices of an almost perfect cantaloupe. Yummy! I think I’ll have the same for dinner.

After a week from hell I decided to treat myself this weekend... Haven't grilled steak since last summer. The following is on this weekends menu. Hickory smoked thick slice bacon, ribeye steaks, shiitake mushroom and steamed shrimp, not necessarily in that order... I love these .5 inch ribeyes smoked with pecan wood... Cooked with high heat from lump charcoal... about 2.5 minutes on each side leaves the center rare... perfect. ;)

More mustard greens, took out of freezer the last large one a few days ago so we have to eat it before it goes bad. And a big slice of onion of course.

So it is catch up meals today. Greens, B-E peas and corn cakes. Then we can eat what we want instead of what we have to to keep from wasting it.

I had planned steak and shrimp for dinner but lunch was larger and later than usual. I just wasn’t that hungry, besides a bird had pooped all over the lid of my grill, didn’t want to clean it.

So, I went with steamed shrimp and the last two slices of cantaloupe, yummy. Last time I forgot to clarify some butter, didn’t forget today. :)
