What are you paying for gas?

I get that too. I love driving my truck. I'm a big guy with a bad back and it's just more comfortable. But uses twice as much fuel. My DD is a 2005 toyota camry and I can manage 30 mpg from it. But I am so stiff when I get anywhere it takes a while to get stretched back out.
I had a little 98 honda civic that was totaled in a hail storm. Bought it from the insurance co. for $400 and drove it another 9 years. I could get 40 mpg out of it if I took it easy on it. But it needed the front end rebuilt and a new exhaust. More money than I wanted to put into a car with a totaled title. I'd love to find something similar to that now.
From what I’m understanding used car prices are out of control. I can imagine even worse now for fuel efficient cars with rising fuel prices

This is getting really old, really fast.
I drive 35 miles one way to work. I'm about ready to start looking for a motorcycle or an even smaller car to increase fuel mileage. My DD gets about 30 mpg. But thats still 2+ gallons a day.

K drives 90+ miles one way to work. He fills up every 2 days. His little 2014 Nissan has a 10 gallon tank. I fill up maybe once a week. My wagon has a 15 gallon tank and gets poor gas mileage for being over 20+ years old. I get decent mileage on the freeway but not on the surface streets. Our weekly gas budget is about $250 between the 2 cars.

I watch the ticker tape every weekday on the bottom of the Fox Business News channel screen. I finally figured out what it tells you and why it is important.
As for the rising gas prices, they are about to find out that supply & demand still rules the day.
If you raise prices enough, people don't buy near as much of your product. :(
As I said earlier, I can now take a walk up and down our street without having to dive in the ditch to dodge the constant stream of young people that go to the store every 20 minutes.
"OMG! I'm out of butter!gaah I'll be back in a minute".
Yeah, I'm heartbroken.:cry::rolleyes:

There was a time when there were a lot of studies on the economics (price elasticity and demand); the relationships between the supply of petroleum fuel, the selling price of that fuel, and the demand for that fuel (as controlled by the miles driven and the type of cars sold): As supply goes down, the price goes up often by a factor of 5 (meaning if you reduce the supply by 5% the price goes up by 25%; based on the oil embargo days); as the price goes up people reduce their by driving less, but early studies showed that people could only reduce their demand by about 11% this way; if prices stay high enough/long enough people will switch modes of transportation (buses, trains, electric-cars); The government knows this and wants to force everyone into electric cars, this is not a necessary inconvenience it is a planned herding of the masses to EVs:

Free charging is just to make the EVs look more attractive at the general public's expense, once they young folks have swallowed the hook (own lots of EVs) the establishment will set the hook (remove other alternatives) and make them pay full fare for electricity.

One note is that COVID-19 changed this dynamic for many white collar workers, they could switch their commute to "virtual" and trim their petroleum demand by about 80%; but this cuts the business heart out of the cities and guts the current establishment's power base. Why do you think the establish is trying to force everyone back to in person work and pushing the narrative of everything is back to normal now....

Back to the price of gas, yesterday morning (06:30) as I drove to the range I saw regular prices ranging from $3.75 to $3.85, when I came home in the afternoon the prices had jumped by 15 cents. I guess the morning shift raises the prices.

When my son bought his first car at the start of the pandemic he actually talked to me and listened, at first he wanted an EV because of some "free" charging where he worked, I asked him do you have charging at your apartment? NO. Then I asked him to look up the driving range of the EV reminding him that the posted range is for driving in perfect weather (not to hot not to cold), and asked him can you drive home to see your mom on a single charge? NO (not enough range). Eventually, he purchased a nice small passenger car, he was able to get a deal on it to boot. Last week he got a call from someone offering him $6,000 more than he paid for it... Yep used cars with good fuel economy are gold right now.

We went to a station that was priced $4.95 (cheap for here) but they turned the pumps off to increase the prices...

About half a dozen cars pulled out when they saw him increase the price by 24 cents a gallon.
When prices are changing rapidly like this, I use a website/app called Gas Buddy https://www.gasbuddy.com/home where they track gas prices for you. It's all user-reported so accuracy can vary depending where you are - it's pretty accurate for my area. The app makes it easy for me to pick which station to hit on the way home from work, and at these prices save some decent $..

I use Gas Buddy and GetUpside.

We went from 3.89 day before yesterday to 4.09 yesterday to 4.25 today.
So, does the damage JB and the wokeies did to our domestic oil&gas production to 'save the planet' when he took office look pretty damstupid yet?
...Just asking for a friend.
Buckle up...and always wear your mask (to keep from barfing on the gas pump).:(
Thank goodness for mail-in ballots!, looks like we will all need them this year.

I should post some of the comments from the political forum I moderate on. These lefties are completely out to lunch, they are defending biden's every move. Their go to line is "the president doesn't set gas prices", while that is true, his policies sure influence them.

Oh well, he said he is on it so..........................

Oh, and they keep telling me if I would just watch CNN I would know what's going on. :ghostly:

Holding at $3.99

Holding here at $4.20, but I'm guessing the weekend has put the prices on hold. We'll have to see what this coming week brings. I'm getting a little jittery. Will it be another 50 cents in a week? Another 14% increase? A 28% increase? Will it hold and be stable for a week or two and climb again? Guess we'll know tomorrow.

I'm guessing the weekend has put the prices on hold.

It sure didn't here in Michigan, we went from 339 to 389 Tue. through Fri. From Friday to this morning it jumped 36 cents to 4.25.

I saw the news this morning and a liberal was asked about gas prices and they slipped in renewables as a solution....
FYI in my area regular is $3.95-$4.15 and premium is $4.15-$5.40, in my area crossing a county line can change the price of gas by almost $0.10 because of local taxes.

I am now to the point where I am only buying 2 tanks of gas a month, actually it is only 1 full tank because I never let the gauge get to 1/2 (be prepared).

I never let the gauge get to 1/2 (be prepared).
This is wisdom at play. This has been my strategy, but I haven't been 100% on this. Once in a while I get busy, distracted, too much going on and I have a note I put up for myself that says, "GAS," to remind myself to fill up. Yes, gauge is right there, but sometimes, too much else is calling.

I guess we won't worry about 4.25 a gallon at some places, they are running out of gas.
I wondered. That would be the next step, and it’s probably getting close. My local station took down their signage at the road.
Just spoke with a friend at the gas station. They haven’t heard of shortages, but were of the thought that a big part of this is to push people to electric cars.
edit- gas went to 4.39 this weekend, and a new load just came in meaning new prices by the end of the day. That’s like a dollar in less than a month.
