What Shortages are You Seeing?

I did my grocery run this morning they were well stocked. I was glad to see they even had chicken under $2/pound. The red meats were a different story, they had inventory but the prices were high. They even had leg of lamb, I looked at one and had to put my glasses on, $75, nope I can't swallow that....

I have come to the conclusion that the way things are going the poor will have food stamps and free handouts; the rich will have access to what ever they want, at a price; and the middle class will have to go on a diet and live in the dark.... Thanks JOE

Oil seems to be getting scarce, it was available pretty much any where pre covid, now, to as easy, I don't much like shopping at walmart but the oil is a lot cheaper by the pail compared to most places. TDH tractor oil is very specialized, Engine oil, I would use 15 40 in anything in a pinch, but specialty oils will be a challenge, and when you do change the TDH in your tractor you should probably put the drain oil in clean buckets and keep it, slightly used beats none
We buy a case of whiskey at a time then Hubby saves the jugs in the case and will use them to put used oil in. That way they are in a jug you can pour from. The used oil is also good as a quench for blacksmithing certain items.

Great plan, my favorite re use jugs are the big launder detergent jugs with the drain back spout. no spill easy pour and really durable

with biden talking publicly about very soon food shortages, i reckon things will start to get more interesting.
I went to Krogers yesterday and today.

Yesterday's trip wasn't too bad. Lots of fronting, but not necessarily huge gaps (although why they put the Tyson chicken on sale when they haven't had it in stock for months is beyond me).

After having a hard talk with the hubs about needing to do more, I went back. Today it was packed. Same time of day as yesterday, but way more packed. And interestingly, a larger percentage of seniors. Huge gaps in lots of places. But most interesting was looking in people's carts - they are definitely waking up. Canned goods galore, and not much interest in the frozen section.

And people looked very afraid.

Ran to Costco, fully stocked. But prices are up. Not sure if they will just raise the prices so you can not afford food or if there will be a shortage. While I was there an older couple was looking at something and the wife said I already have 2 at home, the husband goes, good...get 2 more .
traffic is still insane anywhere you go even with the price of gas

The last cattle that I took to auction brought .45 cents per pound. And these were for registered red angus cows, and all were bred. Now go look at the price of beef in the stores. Someone is getting rich, and it ain't the producers.

Auctions are horrible. If you’re lucky, you can buy back your stuff. Can you advertise and sell your meat to private buyers?
Last month eggs went for 10 cents a dozen, 2 weeks in a row. Price did go up some, to 75 cents, but it’s not the farmers making anything. Cartons cost money, too.
Another note on eggs. With the bird flu, the county health department has told local farmers that they can not sell eggs to the public, like from the spare refrigerator in the garage. There is no confirmed case for over 400 miles. I have no idea what’s happening to all the eggs around here that now have no purpose, but there are lots of eggs involved.

Yes. I sold several head to private parties and came out a little better, and also traded some. I sold a few and had them butchered and did ok, and every year I give the kids one. Our problem last year was we had a cold dry spring and didn't have any grass. I normally turn the cattle out on May 1st and they're good until October or November. Last year we were out of grass by June so had to sell quick.

My brother and SIL were/are in the same boat.

It still says 16 on the bottom of the can. I would call the co. and lodge a complaint - false advertising/misrepresentation of product.

I ran errands today and saw most things in stock. That being said I got motor oil and some other "consumables" to keep things going for a while. I did notice that they were short on distilled water... I had to crawl into the metal rack to get their last 4 gallons....

As for the downsizing of beer bottles, well I only buy beer for my snails and they don't drink that much. :)

Popped into the Dollar General in the town I live near. They had everything you could look for in groceries.
Plenty of canned meats, veggies, soups, fruit, pastas and boxed foods and cereals. Flour, sugar(all kinds), salt, baking powder and soda. No yeast though. I don't think they've ever carried it.
Both canned and dry dog and cat food
Plenty of cleaning products and paper products.
Also fully stocked in all the junk foods and crappy drinks you could want.
Wine and beer were full also.
Health and beauty aids were fully stocked too.

Even found some more vegetable seeds.
Their brand of flour was only $1.89 so I bought 2 more 5#bags to freeze, thaw and vacuum seal. Thats a good price for around here.
Figure I'd get while I can.

I said something very similar the other day. It was here or another forum.

But, those are the facts of the matter IMO.

Went to walmart this morning. The only thing empty on the shelves was pasta. There was some barilla brand but all others were completely gone.
No noodles either of any brand.
All other aisles were fully stocked.

I went to Calgary with my sister, to pick up a hood for their Daughter SUV, bonked an elk, we stopped at Costco They had most stuff, shelves full, but Coffee filters still not in stock, the big industrial type, they used to have several pallets all the time. The prices on most shelf stuff seemed about the same, stuff in the coolers and the meat section were about 20 % higher, Cat food went way up, automotive batteries up 10%. Still silly people wearing masks.

No alka seltzer plus, my glucosamine chondroitin that was $15, then $18 is now $22 and change. no 15-40 oil for my car, I got the last small bag of dry cat food in the store and the last 2 bags of cauliflower rice in the store. Otherwise pretty well stocked. I didn't check pasta or canned veggies aisle. There was plenty of dairy and eggs this time. Seems like less assortment of everything. The biggest price hike I noticed was gallons of vinegar--white vinegar from $2.64 to $3 in a month and gallon of ACV from 3.64 last time I bought it to $5.14 yesterday.

Nope. I'm in New York. Dad gets his SS on the 3rd of every month and my cousin gets her food stamps on the 7th. I've talked to a few others and typically government funds arrive within the first week here. Don't think I've met anyone who receives it later than that. I figured it would be staggered through-out the month to ease government expenditures but, yeah, I've never met anyone who receives it later than the 1st week until you mentioned you get yours later.

For years friends and family would go to Wal-Mart and then report back saying, "I forgot it was the 1st of the month"; because they'd go in and the store would be busy, hectic, people loading up their shopping carts; long lines at the cash register. You hardly ever see such craziness in the last half of the month.

Not sure what algorithm the government uses to disperse funds, but around here in Western NY, it's predominately the 1st week people receive their money.
It varies everywhere .
Not everybody gets their funds on the first week of the month.
Some get them later in the month.

I thought SS went by the date of your birthday. (5th,12th,29th,etc)
Thats how it is here in WV.
Don't know about the food stamps

why aren't people checking other stores for things they can't find?
I've seen crackers, canned cat and dog food at Dollar General stores.
If you really need or want something, why only look at one place?
Doesn't make sense
It is by your birthday.
