Had to go in wallyworld yesterday. I normally won't go there but had to get a picture printed. I won't buy regular eatin' food there like meat or produce, but I'm addicted to the Red Baron personal pizzas and figured I'd pick up some while I was there. Nope, big ol' empty shelf in the freezer where they're supposed to be. Didn't really look at anything else, was just desperate to get back out of there. They've changed it all around since I was last in there, maybe two or three years ago, and I got lost trying to find the photo department.

That's how I am when I have to go there - no browsing! I actually forget something sometimes because I just want out. Oh well.

At Costco today the whole store was full. Meat cases were full. Haven’t seen that much since pre Covid.
Chickens went back down from $1.49 back down to $0.99.
That is good to hear. I have slowly talked the GF and her kids into liking the chicken thighs instead of legs or breast. A bonus to the fact I think they taste better than the breasts and have more meat than the legs, the thighs are cheaper per pound. We have been doing well scoring on sale prices and we are slowly filling up that 3rd freezer. Plus, our chickens and ducks are back to laying full time so in addition to all we can eat scrambled and omelets the eggs salad is a regular dish around here. In KETO country that makes me happy. I need something to break up the monotony of chicken and steak. Yes, eating steak all the time can become boring. Even a good, thick T-bone.

I've noticed that it's the first week of the month when the elderly, the disabled, and those on food stamps get their government funds that the shelves seem to be wiped clean. Every other time of the month, I don't see much in the way of shortages except when their truck is late.

Are you in Canada? In the U.S., the dispersment varies, I think. I get a small Social Security in addition to my retirement. It arrives into my account on the 15th of the month.

Nope. I'm in New York. Dad gets his SS on the 3rd of every month and my cousin gets her food stamps on the 7th. I've talked to a few others and typically government funds arrive within the first week here. Don't think I've met anyone who receives it later than that. I figured it would be staggered through-out the month to ease government expenditures but, yeah, I've never met anyone who receives it later than the 1st week until you mentioned you get yours later.

For years friends and family would go to Wal-Mart and then report back saying, "I forgot it was the 1st of the month"; because they'd go in and the store would be busy, hectic, people loading up their shopping carts; long lines at the cash register. You hardly ever see such craziness in the last half of the month.

Not sure what algorithm the government uses to disperse funds, but around here in Western NY, it's predominately the 1st week people receive their money.

Where are the Crackers at? I need my crackers, GIVE ME MY CRACKERS!!!!!

Are 2022 crackers going to be like 2020 terlet paper?

I thought SS went by the date of your birthday. (5th,12th,29th,etc)
Thats how it is here in WV.
Don't know about the food stamps

why aren't people checking other stores for things they can't find?
I've seen crackers, canned cat and dog food at Dollar General stores.
If you really need or want something, why only look at one place?
Doesn't make sense

@WVDragonlady - My dad was born on the 22nd, but receives SS on the 3rd. NY really loves throwing money to the people, so perhaps around here we just tend to get it right away???

I'm lucky I have the best of both worlds in being on the edge of the country and the edge of 'city' life. We've got 7 grocery stores within a mile, so it is easy for me to go to another location to find what I need, but some people have to drive a while before hitting a single store. And then the next store is another 20 miles away. Not always easy to get what you need in rural-land when stores are few and far between.

SS benefits are distributed on the 2nd, 3rd or 4th Wednesday of each month

I agree with you. looking only in one place is stupid
Went went to Piggly Wiggly and Dollar General both were out of crackers
and aluminum roasting pans. Wifey uses them in the cats box

Not mine. Mine come on the 15th. And that is not my birthday.

I've noticed this. Saltines seem to be the ones that are usually in short supply. Once I noticed it, I decided that was one spot I was going to watch, even though I don't eat many saltines.

https://blog.ssa.gov/what-day-of-the-month-do-i-get-my-social-security-payment/

In general, here’s how we assign payment dates:

  • If you were born on the 1st through the 10th of the month, you’ll be paid on the second Wednesday of the month;
  • If you were born on the 11th through the 20th of the month, you’ll be paid on the third Wednesday of the month; and
  • If you were born after the 20th of the month, you’ll be paid on the fourth Wednesday of the month.
There are exceptions. For example, children and spouses who receive benefits based on someone else’s work record will be paid on the same day as the primary beneficiary.

For others, we may issue your payments on the 3rd of each month. Among other reasons, we do this if:

  • You filed for benefits before May 1, 1997;
  • You also receive a Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payment;
  • Your Medicare premiums are paid for by the state where you live; or
  • You live in a foreign country.
Individuals who receive SSI payments due to disability, age, or blindness receive those payments on the 1st of each month.

If your payment date falls on a federal holiday or weekend, you can expect to receive that month’s payment on the weekday immediately prior.

You can see a current schedule for Social Security and SSI benefit payments in an easy-to-read calendar.

Mapp gas is currently on backorder. If you have torches or do soldering, might make sure you have enough of those little gas tanks. Also, lump charcoal is seasonal, but is currently out of stock most places. The few places that do have it want an arm and leg for it.

We've been noticing the quality of produce dropping significantly - the green onions out in every store near us would have been in the trash a couple of months ago. I'm afraid its in indicator of produce shortages ahead - especially if fertilizer is in short supply as we've heard. We've been talking about firing up the dehydrator and keeping it going with whatever's on sale or looking fresh. Also going to get our own garden fertilizer sooner than later while it's still available.

You should have a big pile of cow poop by now to use next year

They are working on it! I'm only keeping it from the bull calf and heifer right now. My cow has been on grass hay and I'm worried about grazon contamination so hers is being spread on the pasture.

Rattle cans of paint. I was told today that the colors that are out are on back order due to shortage of the cans (not the paint) :rolleyes:
Also, mentioned it in another thread, but copper. If you have any, it's increasing in value.

I just so happen to have around 2000 lbs in my shop plus about 1200 lbs of copper air conditioning coils. I call it my fun money as it will most definitely turn into guns , ammo and other fun stuff.
