CAL Ranch was very low on chicken feed, they didn't have what we usually buy so just grabbed a couple bags of an alternate. Supposedly the truck was due in a few days. Went to IFA and grabbed a couple bags of red wheat and sunflower seeds just to have some extra on hand.

CAL Ranch did have a good supply of firearms and ammunition so that was good, went to ACE Hardware and they were full of ammo and firearms too.

Brown paper will extend the life of lettuce and bananas.
I wonder why cabbage keeps so well? we had heads of it and
carrots in our potato room as a kid, it wasn't that cold down there.

I went to the car shop to make an appointment to get my brakes repaired. They are busy and the soonest they could get me in was a week. While waiting for my turn, I asked one of the guys if they are having a hard time getting car parts. Oh yes. They used to use 2 specific vendors for parts, but now are using 7 in the area. The hardest part to get? Catalytic convertors, due to all the theft.

Do you know those things can be cleaned and reused if the mechanic knows his stuff.
Of course any mechanic who can do it will tell you to chuck it and straight pipe it because
its killing your power.

Exactly what I would do if mine ever got stolen. I don't know if modern cars would throw a trouble code and turn on an engine light but the older cars didn't and it could give an extra mile or two per gallon in addition to the added horsepower.

@Weedygarden as I was reading your post I was thinking more people are repairing and doing more upkeep on their cars to avoid the high price of a new or even used car. Car prices are stupid high now so it is cheaper to keep the one you have.

This has always been me. I keep a car until it is wrecked or something else. I think of Cuba. How did they maintain their cars all those years?

Some people are used to driving relatively new cars. I didn't grow up that way and have never had a new car. I am very careful about the cars I purchase. I have my mechanics check them out and I test drive them. I have had individuals try to sell me cars that had issues.

The guy at the repair shop told me I had had my car in 16 times in 10 years. I don't know how many of those were for oil changes and brakes, but I do know radiator cap replacement, water pump which then includes timing belt replacement, alternator a couple of times, 2012 and 2021. I keep my car maintained as best I can. I do not like car shopping because too many times I was absolutely not heard and steered towards something the complete opposite of what I mentioned I wanted, and I do not like car payments.

I bought the last three pints of heavy cream in the store and the last two cans of lima beans. Chicken thighs are now sold in packages of four instead of packages of 10. The cereal aisle is representative of much of the store, you can buy plenty of cereal but half the shelves are bare and you may not get the brand you want.

Ended up in the city today (not a big one, but the closest one of good size with the typical home depot, etc.) and did a little shopping. Didn't see a lot of empty shelves but the prices are so stinking high. I need to build a storage loft in the shed and sheets of OSB are running $40 and up. Went to the local Mennonite store yesterday and didn't see any shortages, but again there are higher prices for smaller packages.

I have two friends whose cars were totaled in accidents recently. Both have talked about the challenge of finding a replacement car. Even finding a rental in the meantime is not easy.

4 years my car was totalled. Had paid cash and never had a payment. Then I had to replace and the prices were high.

Last Fall someone hit my daughter head on and her replacement allotment was more than she initially paid for the car. Prices are outrageous.

And how! The catalytic converter in my '06 Prius went, and it actually made sense to replace it at $800 in a 16 year old car with 235K miles on it. I was looking at similar used cars for $7 to 10K!

We are fine here, what happen to the food lines, that was going to happen end of the month?

EBT is still up. People are getting extra.
If there were no EBT we'd see food lines for days
The local Harvest Hope food pantry had lines for FREE food at 3:00 am this week.
But I was talking about the email from the FEDS.

My truck died, it was a 2005.
I went to look at new trucks & they said it would come in about six weeks give or take a week.
A 2022 Tacoma SR 2.7L 4-cyl. A 6 speed Automatic, power windows, black paint & gray interior
20 MPG city/23MPG. hyw
This is the basic model at $29,288.50 - $1000.00 is $28,288.50
$8000.00 down, 659.00 for 36 months.
Am I crazy?

Sounds reasonable. I forget what the 2012 Tacoma went for, but it doesn’t sound terrible. Toyotas generally are money well spent.
They say $26500.00, but it is $29,288.50.
My big draw is I am tried of only having one vehicle, when one is in the shop.
Hopefully this truck will be running for 20 year, even if I am not.

My sister was hit right before Christmas. She is still waiting for the insuance company to get it fixed, they keep saying they are waiting on parts. I told her I would be flipping out. Her truck was 3 months old when someone ran a stop sign and hit her. I would not be paying for a new vehicle I can not even drive.

We have 3 vehicles, a 1997 F250 4 wheel drive, 2007 Jeep Rubicon and a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I'll never sell the F250, they don't make a truck that even comes close to it today. But we are planing on selling both Jeeps and buying a new 2022 Jeep Rubicon. Most vehicles today are what I consider "throw-away" vehicles, over priced plastic junk.

Let’s see, the local paper has a buggy for $2,000. There’s a wagon, needs paint, for $700. Horses vary, and I hear you can get them very reasonably. No gas, no oil, no insurance needed.
Lots of vehicles, ready to go, and as Ford once said, you can have any color you want as long as it’s black.
Ready to start a new trend?☺️
