Bible study cancelled for tonight. It's ok with me.

Fan install should complete today, it would have been done, but "somebody" forgot the hot wire for the lights. I am gonna fire him :p

First task was to fetch the eldest granddaughter so she could mow the grass in her an effort to pay off the new game PC grandma purchased for her. Taxi her home and then my turn to do something.

I convinced The Princess that the project to move the grow station to the greenhouse was phase 1 and is DONE. But she insisted I commence phase 2 which includes consolidating all of the gardening supplies into the greenhouse , shed or toss it. Additional getting control of the temp and humidity.

Still determined to keep this on a ghetto budget I went through my stash. Found a functional temp humidity hi/lo meter. Please note it is sitting on on a window sill of a window to the second kitchen ( which has been named the Counter Kitchen to distinguish it from rhe primary kitchen).

I had retrieved a wire shelf from the rental property and it has been in storage. It is a bit funky but the price is right.

So all of the grow station is off the floor and I room to store more supplies.

Now about that window sill. The grow station shelves are on wheels. I am considering moving it in front of the window for the cold months. Put a plastic curtain around the shelves and crack the window open to keep it above freezing. Just a thought at this point.

But that will not help with the fig, orange, and olive trees.

So that is todays dun and musings.

Behave!

Tried out my new flame thrower for weeds . I burnt some thistles that already had seeds on them. Had to keep chasing bees away but one got fried and I felt bad
It seems to be working well, but I do wonder if the roots will die also.

Picked another bucket of beans and pulled out some onions. Beans look great, the onions are somewhat mushy and rotten on the outside . Maybe the weeds around them or I should have gotten them out earlier.

Dewormed some more goats and trimmed hoofs. No hoof rot despite all the mud and rain. I think it's because we put them in the barn if it is really bad.

Took puppy to vet yesterday. He gained 20 lbs in a month. No wonder he eats and drinks all the time

For those suffering from allergies here is a respirator that has worked for others with sever allergies and I use them a lot when welding toxic materials......the kind of stuff that poisens me and gives me a instant nasal infection that takes antibiotics to cure. They are a bit of a pain to wear but leading a more normal life and getting around is worth it. Long slow breathes in and out works best.

I've got that one from the place I used to work, and one of these from the place before that:

I finally had a regular day at work after back to back days of 6AM to 10PM. Uncle Sam is going to be happy with his share of my next paycheck.

I am becoming tired of west Nebraska though. The soil here is like a fine sandy powder. It's almost like gray flour. It gets into everything - eyes, ears, lungs - and its getting old. I'm starting to cough up dark stuff.

5 more days of work and then it'll be time to go home. My daughter starts her junior year of high school the day after I get back. I am both sad and excited. She just got her driver's license too. I don't think either of us is really ready for her to be driving on her own.

Enjoy your evening, H&CL!

Today was linen wash day, bed linens, tbl cloths, even comforters. All the odds and ends, washed, folded and put away.

The tree guy couldn’t say if he’d be here tomorrow morning or saturday morning, could be either. So I have to be ready for tomorrow. This afternoon I worked on the chicken pen. The perimeter fence for the entire north side is only held by a couple wires. It ready to be yanked out of the way. I got the cinder blocks picked up and moved. (can't move that fence till the last moment, It doubles as a chicken fence and a pasture fence, only thing at that spot keeping the bull and horses in the pasture)

I still have to move a hive of bees tonight, in about an hour. I have all the gear prepped and ready. When it’s full dark I’ll smokem’ sealem’ and move them. Still haven’t figured out the last part. It’s too heavy to pick up alone so I’m going to slide it on something. At least I found the right staples for nailing all the hive components together (as one piece).

So I hope I’m not posting later that I accidentally dumped 15,000 bees out on the ground. Time will tell...

Completely amazed this evening. Granddaughter was actually home for dinner. The last time she was home was July 31 (husband's birthday), before that was July 4 (I made dinner for their boyfriend and girlfriend), and before that was June 11 (the twins bday dinner). So today was a shocker. But she knows we say no to working during the school nights, and she booked work for Mon, Wed, Fri nights, with a double shift on Saturday. So she felt she's won anyway. Husband says he'd rather have her not home anyway, so ok. Getting ready for the chicken butchering tomorrow am. Got the old pickup by the milkhouse, loaded with the ice chests, ziplocks, gloves, and my butchering kit. Just have to load up cages with a couple dozen very fat meat chickens and get them to my cousin's place.

Hello everybody, Hey, times are hard and because my van broke down all the drama that goes with that. We are having to tighten the belt around here, we have needs and wants, the internet is a want it is not a need. So I have made a decision to shut off my cable, phone, and internet for a couple of months till I get this stuff straightened out. Ya’ll hang tough and I will be back . Oh. Here is a couple things I have been working on.

Glad you are "okay" & will send up a prayer for you and that your circumstances improve. That is a beautiful cover!
Keep well friend~

Got the hive moved without issue. 15 large staples and a strap held the hive together. Another strap held it to my travois, er step ladder.

I actually finished, thought I'd done it without a single sting. I was standing looking, making sure everything was done and a bee stung me right on the end of my nose... #$%@#$

I also narrowed down the location of the yellow jacket nest. Cause I got stung again on the way to the house, got me on the back of my neck. I can say I've had all the bee and wasp venom I want for tonight.

Got another shower and fresh clothes. Gonna be working down there tomorrow and I don't want to be wearing clothes covered in angry bee pheromones. (learned that lesson previously)

@Hooch , I hope you get feeling better soon.

@winds-of-change I hope knee surgery goes well for you and that you recover quickly. The Fox kits are cute.

@goshengirl Sorry your son had a setback, but also glad (as you are) that it happened while he was still in the hospital. And its nice that you can sit with him. I hope the bathroom reno goes well.

@dademoss ugh, sorry UPS lost your Amazon package. I hope you will still get your stuff. Any recommedations on decent ceiling fans? We have a hard time finding newer ones that last more than a year. Motors on the fans keep dying.

@Wingnut The kitties are so adorable!

@snappy1 what is impossible cheesecake?

@Spikedriver I hope the switch installation goes well.

@Peanut, yeah, sometimes you have to replace the silicone around showers. I've had to do it before bc it just wears out over time. I've been told by plumbers to use the 100% silicone. Yikes, sorry you got stung on the nose by the bee. Hope you don't have any sort of allergies. My brother is allergic. He got stung on the forehead right between the eyes the day before his 18th birthday. Had to go to school with his face swollen on his birthday.

@Frodo I hope you will be back soon. Love the leather stuff you make!

@jishinsjourney I hope the PT went well and that the allergy shots and so forth help you.

@Magus that "hurry up and wait" mode is so frustrating.

@ben progress is looking good!

I took mom for her regular eye doctor appointment. Eyes are doing great for her age. Stopped at the "big" walmart nearby (twice the size of the one in our town) and got some stuff. Then to Samsclub for milk and cat food. Grabbed Wendy's take-out on the way home. She ate in the truck but I had to wait until we got home and I unloaded groceries. Brother helped bring the milk in at least. I ate and then took a 4 hour nap. Mom is probably hungry again so I'm about to go check on her.

I've used both. the "bikini" model is easier to use in this heat.
Much easier, but it doesn't protect the eyes from gasses like Hydrogen Sulfide.

I have a nice 5-blade ceiling fan in the Great Room, and it's right over my usual viewing seat on the leather couch... I need to start using it, instead of the small fan I've been schlepping around the room.

It's already mid-August, so summer won't last that much longer... got another electric bill, this time for $172, which reflects the running of the A/C during hot days. A month from now, that bill amount will drop big-time.

Just one more reason why I love spring & fall in the high desert... the bills are higher in summer & winter for cooling & heating my home. In spring & fall, I can "work the windows" and remain perfectly comfortable... for free!

Rained again last night, so no watering this morning... no wheel & tire rotation either, lol. I may call Discount Tire in town and ask 'em if they still "owe" me a rotation, can't recall if a Discount Tire shop did this in AZ, I may have done it myself. 🤔

If I can get them to rotate my wheels & tires, that would save me the trouble, even though I have the tools & equipment to do the job. My next set of tires will come from Discount Tire, as usual... my last set was purchased over three years ago. 😒

I started running Cooper Arizonian (sic) Silver Edition tires on the Camry over a decade ago, after reading a positive review from a traveling salesman who drove something like 225K miles per year, lol. Good rubber compound, for sure. 🙂

Well, reckon I'll go easy today, the cat introductions are dragging out but things seem a little quieter here, maybe I'm making progress after all, lol. Crackhead doesn't like me very much lately, but I'm hoping he'll get over himself... 😉

I thought I should post this as a warning for others about yellow jackets. I now have an accurate count on wasp stings. About 3pm I was stung 7 times by yellow jackets. Strange… about 30 minutes later I got a severe headache. I get bad ones often because of cfs, even have prescription pain meds on hand that I never take.

This headache was pretty bad, very sharp, about 6/10. But it was quick, happened in about 5min, lasted an hour and disappeared as quickly.

About 9pm I was stung again, by one honey bee and twice more by yellow jackets. Same drill on the headache but this one was worse and lasted longer. My meds were looking tempting….

I’ve never experienced this from stings. I’ve gotten multiple stings from honey bees several times but never a headache afterwards. I researched it, the Mayo clinic had a good write up. Headaches are a symptom of multiple stings. Still have a dull headache this morning.

These were bad… so heads up. Might better be prepared for such an event when there is no doctor. I just tinctured a plant for treating headaches, not ready yet but it will be in a couple weeks.

I've noticed that stings are more intense here in the high desert... some local hand claimed the bees are hybrids, part killer bee and part whatever, but I'm not sure if that's true. However, each time I've been stung in AZ and NM, my reaction has been more severe than what used to happen on the coast. I never used to have any serious reaction to stings, just a few moments of irritation or pain which went away... but in the high desert, I've had weird red streaks on my arm and raised bumps which lasted a few days.

Tree guy called, will be here in a couple hours unless it starts raining. It looks like it's going to start raining.

The worst kind of stings are on my hands when they hit a nerve bundle at a joint. Lots of nerves in our hands and they are close to the surface at joints. Doesn't happen often but they do get a nerve sometimes, aches for days. I'd rather get 10 stings on my arms than one sting on a nerve. They hurt pretty bad.

Went to visit my son the past three days. Yesterday we went for a walk down to the river below his place. We all had to pack shotguns loaded for bear. Bears are as thick as wasps this year. We can't shoot them but we can put a few slugs into a tree stump. The noise of a 12 gage gives them plenty of incentive to move off.

Much easier, but it doesn't protect the eyes from gasses like Hydrogen Sulfide.
Tis so, but I don't blue guns or play in toxic stuff no more.I just wear my shades and get called "Darth vader" by inbreed kids.

Canning today! Aztec chicken soup in the canner, Asian plum sauce on deck. I started up a GF sourdough starter and it caught so fast that I had to rescue it this morning. I was expecting it to take five days and it only took two. Fingers crossed it’s salvageable and I don’t have to start over.
