Had a wonderful day at the reunion. My last remaining great uncle was there (93). His mind is still sharp, in fact he yelled at me across the lawn. I didn’t see him sitting under the tent. He called me by a nickname I haven’t heard since I was 10, lol.

There were actually 5 seating areas. I went a little early and volunteered for elder duty at the big tent. Several of us pulled their cars up close to the tent, helped them get out, then parked their cars. A couple of my aunts had seating duty. Making sure all the family elders got seats and as much food as they wanted. Someone counted heads… 23 people were over 80 attended. I was so busy I forgot to take pictures, only got a couple shots when I first got there.

Food… omg! There were 3 smoked boston butts, 4 big trays of crappie, 2 big trays of smoked chicken wings wrapped in bacon w/herbs and cream cheese, they were soooooo goooood! 2 cousins each brought a big tray of deviled eggs for me. At least that was what they claimed… lol. (there’s a rumor I like them)

There were 3, 10ft tables of side dishes and another for desserts. And 2 big coolers of fresh made lemonade, sort of a tradition. They make it in the coolers and use the drain as a pour spout.

Got to see lots of kin I haven’t seen in many years… so many of my cousins got old like me. I didn’t recognize any of their kids or grand kids. There was a hay ride for the little kids too.

The crowd was smaller than anticipated, never more than 70 folks at any given time. It lasted 5hrs. People would come, stay a couple hours, leave, then others would arrive. A revolving crowd.

No music… sad. I was the only picker who brought an instrument. But I left it covered with a blanket in my truck, had a feeling… I remember so many pickers at these reunions we had to split up into smaller groups.

Anyway, we had a wonderful day at the foot of the mountain… Sunny, beautiful blue sky, warm. Lots of memories...

Glad you had a good time!! I imagine it was much needed! The beautiful day sure helped!

Ha! Almost forgot, even more food. After leaving the reunion I was halfway home before I realized someone had left a present in my truck. A big bowl of scuppernongs!!! Luv them which someone obviously knew!

Now I have to figure out who did it before christmas. Make sure they at least get a card and their tupperware back.

Hooch, that's why I think anyone caught doing stupid stuff like that with guns should lose their right to own guns. I was watching some videos about reddit posts earlier & there was a discussion of people who caught hunters shooting on their property (which has happened to us before). Some got threatened by hunters. One guy actually got shot by a hunter on his own property when he was a kid. Then they brought up the case of the woman who was shot in her own backyard while hanging up her laundry bc her neighbor claimed he mistook her for a white-tailed deer bc she had gloves on. It wasn't legal for him to be shooting that close to a house & I don't buy for a moment that it was an accident/mistake. But the guy got away with it. This should probably be in a rant thread. LOL. Being irresponsible or pretending to be irresponsible to get away with things is one of my pet peeves.

That looks nice, Peanut!

Tank-Girl, Ouch. I hope your knee still heals up without a problem.

I did a little bit of organizing of stuff in my bathroom but still need to do more. Cleaned in the hallway. Need to change trash bag out in the kitchen (brother won't do it) and haul out the other trash bag he just set on the floor (again, he refuses to do his one chore of taking trash out). I'm also planning how to do my toilet platform. A 2x12 cut to size should work.

Probably going to have to go clean Mom's toilet in a bit bc no one else will do it & she said it looks really nasty.

A big bowl of scuppernongs!!!
A big bowl of whaaat? Is it catchy?

Tank Girl hope your knee heals up quickly.

Spent the afternoon working on the front porch, have to pull up all the caulk from between the boards and sand it down so I can repaint it. got a little less then halfway done and had to quit, it was just tearing up my knees and hips and back. Weather is supposed to be good all week, so I plan to tell the boss I need afternoons off so I can finish my project in stages.

Scuppernongs are north america's native white grape. There are several species of native red grape... the most well known is Muscadines. Both grow wild all over the south.

I try to catch one every time I see them!!! lol. Yummy, waaay better than white grapes at the supermarket.

A cousin makes muscadine wine every year. Pretty good, never had wine made with scuppernongs though. Wonder how it'd taste?

On a lighter note..I found a patch of shaggy manes. I picked one to eat n then chickened out in the end. I think I'd be wise to have it 100% identified even though I'm 95 % sure it's a shaggy mane.

Hangin' at the ol' hacienda after my ride, I expect it to be a quiet night... cats & kittens are making progress with their introductions, they've been playing together and all is right with the world. I'll probably read a book tonight, I feel like getting horizontal and relaxing... went to my room to read last night, and promptly fell asleep, lol. Hopefully I get a little farther into my Western tonight. ;)
The days getting shorter affects me also - easy to fall asleep when it's been dark for said amount of time.
Worked on chores around here, put a meatloaf in the crock pot, sorted through more boxes, pulled out furniture to vacuum behind, sliced up the last of the tomatoes to go in the dehydrator. Went for a motorcycle ride and almost got taken out by a big doe. The tomatoes are only half done and the fan in the dehydrator quit working. Meatloaf sandwich was good at least.
Wow! Be careful - they sure are camoed this time of year.
Took the dog on a long walk this am.
About a quarter way into it, I hear a rifle shot close..I stop, call the dog back to me.
I'm looking around thinking who the +×÷= is shooting so close to the trail n park?
I drove into town, I park my truck at the local park n hit the trail from here lately. I'm just outside the park about to cross the road to where the trail picks up again to head out when another one rings out ..this one was closer to me, close nuff to feel the sound compression feeling when you shoot.
I'm pissed and rattled..I yell out, "hay! What the F=÷!!! " then about 20 feet away on the road, I hear a vehicle stop n shut off. I hear a kid n man's voice, I'm yelling, hay! So they know I'm there n as I clear the bushes n trees that were blocking that part of the road from the trail I see the kid putting his rifle back into the truck n I tell the guy this isnt a good idea. He said he was done here and drives down the road about 50 more feet n shoots again.
They were hunting quail, in city limits, out of a vehicle and from on the road..shooting across a hiking trail, with a rifle not even a quarter mile from a park.

Dumb f+×÷&%! idiot ..

I need another hike just to cool off..
Did you get the license plate number?

There's a mushroom identifying app I was thinking about getting. I'm trying to take pix of them when I see different shrooms so if I get it for a week, I can identify a bunch of them identified, not just the ones in season at the moment.

Shorter days are wearing on me. Did more onions today. Also, beginning to find the kitchen again. Last night I was working in the pantry & evidently had my phone in there with me. Later, I was ready to go to bed and couldn't find my phone. Hubby had to text me and I would follow the sound. Evidently the ringer got shut off. Anyhoo found my phone in the pantry. I got the little hallway like area going down to the basement shop vac'd today. There are 2 steps going down right inside the back door so "stuff" is always blowing down there.
I think tomorrow is Monday again - where did the weekend go?

Will be off to take little granddaughter and neighbor girl to school, and then back here quickly, husband said an electrician will be out this morning to put in more outlets in two of our garages. I'll need to show him what we need done. Need to stop in to Lowes for some hinges and more screws for the greenhouse. Wanting to get the doors finished.

Sometimes EVERYDAY is Monday!!🙃

Peanut, those grapes sound like something from a pirate novel: "The scuppernongs ran red with blood..."

Oh, wait, they'd have to be muscadines to run red, huh? ;)

Trash day today, so more yard cleanup later. Quiet morning for now, haven't watered anything yet, I'm just sipping my usual herbal tea... had some delicious apple cider earlier when I first woke, I love fresh apple cider in the fall! My brother in VA once told me that folks leave jugs of cider out on their back steps and the cider will turn hard after so many days or weeks... can anybody verify this? And will it work with cider which has already been pasteurized? Or does the cider have to be raw to turn into hard cider? I'm thinking about buying a few jugs and leaving 'em outside, maybe in the cycle shed, till they turn hard, lol. Gotta love hard cider, but the store-bought versions are all heller expensive...

Headed to the bank, then the pawn shop to pick up the last piece of a 3 gun kit I've building about 8 months.

Didn't do much yesterday besides Church and walk dogs. It was a nice day and beautiful weather here.

Walked first this morning.
Started laundry.
Picked okra and peppers.
Cleaned baths and dusted house.
Still need to finish laundry and that's it!
Probably water tonight. It is pretty dry right now.

Made some excellent chili for lunch, adding onion, hot peppers from my plant outside, and some vine-ripened tomato... made cheddar cheese toast using a large sesame seed hamburger bun, since I forgot to pull a loaf of French or Italian bread down from the freezer yesterday. After my brunch, I noticed that it was dead calm outside, so I went out and burned the remaining weed piles... torched one, actually, and dragged the other piles to the fire. Between my full stomach and the bonfire (which was the temperature of the sun), I was SWEATIN' as I humped armloads of weeds to the blaze. Had minor indigestion too, but a few loud belches solved that problem, lol.

Should've waited till AFTER the fire to eat lunch, but we can't all be scheduling heroes... I saw a good window of opportunity to get rid of those unsightly weed piles, and I jumped on it, yeah? I may be homesteading on a small scale compared to some site members (I plan on ramping up food production next season), but I still realize that there are times when one needs to seize the moment and get stuff done in a timely manner. Now the weed piles are gone and I'm all cleaned up after a nice shower, but I'm still too full to drink beer, lol... can't win 'em all! I'll have a cold one later when my food settles, 10-4? I'm just happy to reclaim my yard after burning those large unsightly piles of weeds, lol.

What have I been doing today: listening to gossip:oops:.
Anybody that knows me, fell out of their chair when I said that:rolleyes:.
I thought this was interesting though...
Evidently when deputies in Fort Myers FL were going door to door looking for bodies, they came across my wife's Ex's long-decayed body.
They estimated he had been dead for 'weeks' before the storm hit.
Daughter was notified by them because she was 'next of kin'.
Lesson: when you run off everyone in your life, nobody notices when you die.:(

Oh wow, Supervisor, that's a bad story. My mom was married to a guy who had an ex wife and a grown son who lived together and both were drunks. They both drank themselves to death around the same time in their apartment, and weeks later were found. Gruesome.
Random chores today...tires repaired and put back on my wagon, electrician out this morning for more plugs put in two garages, to the hardware store for shorter screws, drill bits, and hinges for the green house door, mega amounts of laundry since the twins brought down about 5 loads. They've been home (10 min) and already gone. Don't expect to see them till 10 tonight at least. Talked to little granddaughter about the spying she's still being told to do. Now she's mad, oh well. Called mom and told her we'll bring her burgers, fries, and shakes tomorrow night and have supper with her. Time to make tonight's dinner.

If its anything like Muskidines, grape flavored rocket fuel!

After 3 days of nonstop rain we finally had a nice day today. But it took us all morning to clean the barn up , like 10 wheelbarrows of crap
Saw another coyote in the neighbor's pasture, hope it didn't get any of their sheep or the little goats they have running around but I didn't see any of their animals so maybe theirs were put up too. Both dogs are out tonight with ours , one with the sheep , one with the goats.

My truck is not fixed yet, I had an appointment today to get it done, but when I called I was told " we're running behind, it will be at least Wednesday before we can look at it" , good thing I don't depend on it to drive to a job every day or I would have had to get a rental

Getting more hay tomorrow, last load for now we should have enough till spring I hope but it was a wet year so there is a lot of hay for sale ( but a lot of it not baled very dry)

Tough day. Been waiting for six months for my husband's headstone. Called them a few weeks ago and they said 'a while yet'. Then yesterday I got an invoice in the mail. So I stopped up there to pay it and they said, oh yeah, it's been done and it's placed already. Thanks for letting me know! They didn't understand why I had a problem with not knowing. So rode over to check that it was in the right spot and everything was spelled correctly. Then I just kept riding until the wind and noise made me cold and numb enough to come home.

Reminds me I need to clean my room. I still haven't unpacked boxes that were brought in here in 2001. I have a bunch of laundry on the floor. Dogs dragged in a bunch of empty water bottles (which spilled out of my brother's room) and cheese wrappers (also my brother's). HIs room is so full of trash that it is spilling out into the hallway and then dogs drag stuff to my room. There's trash all over the kitchen floor bc the trash can got knocked over.

Heartbroken, that sounds rough. I'd be very annoyed with them for saying something wasn't read-- especially a tombstone. Things like that just bring up the reminders of the loss and make it feel worse. Sending you some virtual hugs.

I got hit with too much sewer gas last night bc the plug came out of my tub and it has an S-trap so the water just siphons out of the trap. Feeling dizzy today. Managed to go to Walmart and get some groceries and RX. Forgot some stuff on the list bc I was feeling too cruddy. Next time I go in I need to get gas and other stuff. Ended up bringing home food instead of cooking but Mom will probably want me to cook something later.

I slept until 5pm but feel like I need a nap again.

Spikedriver, that really sucks. :-( I hope you like the new vehicle you found. One suggestion- something that came to bite me in the ass a few times-- use a flashlight to examine the windows and windshields for chips and cracks. Look UNDER where they put the stickers. We had dealerships hide damage to the windshield on used vehicles with giant stickers. Had even asked them about any cracks or dings in the windshield and they lied. Also, it's a good idea to find a nearby mechanic that you trust who will examine it- and get the battery tested. Dealerships often sell vehicles with dead/bad batteries and have to jumpstart them for you to test drive.

Snappy, I'm glad you're feeling better and hope you'll be able to get up more easily in the near future.

Backpacker, what kind of fish you looking to catch?

MoBookworm, I'm very sorry.

My back is not cooperating with me. I have been lying down and trying to keep it from feeling inflamed. Still alternating heat and cold. Need to go get an ice pack now. But I haven't done anything but nap today. Got a message on the answering machine from someone we haven't heard from in years. Friend of ours who had a stroke and found out she had a brain tumor back in 2009. She's had the tumor removed but it slowed her down a lot. I wonder if her husband died or if she's just checking up on us. I suspect the former but we missed the call and it went to the answering machine.

Trying to motivate myself to get up and move.
Thank you zannej,
