I could see out the kitchen window that our winds blew off my huge tarp on the turkey run. I think our winds stay just under 30 mph today, but we'll see.
So the grandkids are gone (actually just 2 miles away), so now to focus on mom's stuff. That's why my sister is here and my nephew and his wife are coming. So sis finished up with the tax lady on mom's behalf yesterday, visited with mom. We went over the screwed up billing the manor has left us with, toy go over with them today at a late morning meeting. The meeting is primarily to go over mom's need for care since her leg is healing well. She should be back on a walker after a doc appt Wednesday. But will need to stay in the nursing side because of her dementia, I'm sure. So, school run, animal chores, off to the meeting, then to mom's apartment to do prepack, back to visit mom and bring more stuff to her. Tomorrow we will be clearing out her apartment completely.

Glad the twins are out, you have enough on your plate Amish!! Now you can get your house back in order and focus on your mom! My day off today,  but I'm going to grocery shop for one of my older ladies! Also shopping for me! Have some errands to run too. Have a list a mile long when I get home! Will work Saturday and Sunday, but it's nice to have one day off! Hopefully two days a week off starting soon! A nap will be happening later😃!!

I like the look of the vine wraped around it
Found enough to have 10 sticks for the. weekend
I cut one from a magnolia, I think I will keep it for myself lol.

My pops has a walking stick given to him years ago by one of the old locals. It was made from a gnarly dead tree that isn't supposed to grow in Central Iowa, but there it was on this guy's land. The finished stick looks a lot like the ones you have there. Very cool.

Actually it looks very much like that, minus the vine. I'll have to get a picture of it next time I go to his house.

I have a nice walking stick, it's very stout yet also very light, dunno what sort of wood it is... it's nice to have a walking stick on some of these rugged trails, just for the extra support while moving up or down. This stick would also make a good weapon for self-defense, since it's quite strong. Someone carved what looks like a wolf's head up near the grip, but it's not a very good likeness, lol... I reckon Frodo could've done a much better job. 😒

As soon as I dropped the stick on the carpet, that goofy Z-Girl had to come check it out, lol. Dunno what I'll be doing later today, I thought the wind was supposed to drop but it's still howling, which doesn't make for good planting weather. I had to move the apple tree I bought yesterday, it's now on the eastern (or currently leeward) side of my home, waiting to be transplanted into the ground. Here's a shot or two of it:

Nice little tree, it's already flowering, it just needs to be put in the ground... I have a spot picked out for it in the NE corner of my lot, plenty of sunshine in that open area. Later, I'll buy another apple tree, the tag says you should have two near one another, though that might be a marketing ploy, lol. Meh, I want to build up a small orchard anyway, so that years from now I will have an abundance of fresh fruit in season. One step at a time, no worries...

P.S. The apple tree is roughly 9' tall, probably be 8' tall when it's in the ground, and I paid $36.99 (plus tax) for it at the Depot, but it's in good shape and I like the fact that it's already flowering. Duct tape job is for the split plastic pot...

Someone here asked how to organize a chest freezer. ( Peanut, I think that was you)
We have lots of them and this is what I do: defrost one while taking everything out and reorganizing, and then putting it in a different one until the first one is defrosted and cleaned out. I just did one today . I cooked the absolute junk I found in it stuff I buy for son, or for days with emergencies where I have no time to cook. This is what we had: 1\4 pack of frozen meatballs, 5 pieces of breaded fish, 3 leftover open packages of fries ( one is too much for us) and a pack of breaded spinach and cheese ravioli. LOL, what a bunch of junk...I put it all on a cookie sheet in the oven and baked it until fully dead...
Plus 2 packs of goat/lamb livers for the dogs which I boiled for a little bit.

Our wind is staying about 20 mph today. Feels nice outside!
Did Walmart/ Aldi run yesterday.
Walked yesterday and today.
Going to walk the dogs next and then do ebay photos.
Will be going to see a Christian speaker tonight and tomorrow morning.

And time goes by. Trying to make the most of it better than I was. Will be taking pup in profile to vet Tuesday to see if she is diabetic. Drinking lots of water, peeing every 1.5 hours and losing a little weight. We will see.

This wind is botching my plans today, but it has to blow itself out sooner or later... guess I'll do the planting and work on the bike this weekend. In the meantime, I'm sharing quality time with the cats, they are such funny critters! Having them around is a blessing, since they keep me entertained and also keep me company... life would be dull without 'em. On a positive note, I just had a burly steak sandwich with all the trimmings on Italian bread, lol... those London Broils are good cuts for making big ol' steak sandwiches, I just roast 'em till they're rare-to-medium-rare, then slice 'em thin but stack up the slices. Add all the trimmings and some creamy horseradish sauce... downright delicious! Now I get to do dishes like Morgan101... oh, boy! Ain't life grand? Little Black Diamond will help me do dishes, she's sticking close to me today, lol.

I don't like chest freezers because I don't like having to bend down into them. I don't even like getting stuff off lower shelves in the upright freezer.

My kitty, Sir Hammington, is still missing. I've gone out and called him and loudly sang the song that usually gets him to run to me-- but 3 other cats ran to me instead. I sing "On Topal Bay" from Elder Scrolls Online and the cats run to me.

Trying to figure out solutions to clean out Mom's computer better. Will probably need my friend's help and we may need to replace the CPU fan. Not sure yet. Will need some cooling stuff if we take it apart enough to clean it properly. Need a light vacuum to get stuff in some corners (but won't put it near electrical parts). I don't know if Mom has the files on her laptop to be able to do her taxes. She was working on them when her computer shut off. I posted in the rant for the day thread about the roaches up in there. They are nasty.

Today we went to the bank. Mom transferred money from one account to another & got some cash. I transferred money from my savings to her savings account to get a new phone. She got a credit card in my name that is paid with her account and she said she'd pay for half the price of the phone. I put in more than half though. Thus far the best price I've seen was on Bestbuy. I don't trust ebay for phones. AT&T apparently will help me transfer my data and get me a microsim card.

Stopped by Walmart and Mom picked some food out. I cooked it for her after unloading the groceries at home. She'll be wanting shrimp scampi and yellow rice later. I'm going to take a nap soon. Had trouble getting to sleep last night.

It was sunny and 76° at noon. In fact I was almost uncomfortably warm outside, after the cold wet spring weather we've been having. Unfortunately a cold front rolled in around 2pm and the wind is now strong enough to make it hard to breathe if you face into it. 30 miles away there is severe thunderstorms but we just have broken clouds here. Where my lady lives, they're under a tornado warning.

The spring weather is about to get funky, y'all...

The wind finally eased up and I planted the apple tree... so I got something done after all, lol. It looks good in the yard, one day that corner of the property will be a small orchard, and hopefully a productive one. My other fruit trees are doing well, but I'm thinking of maybe buying some tree spikes or fertilizer to enhance their growth. Gotta be careful with the spikes though, they can burn roots if they're too close, perhaps I'd be better off with some other product. I keep looking for that Azomite (?) that Peanut mentioned, but nobody has it, maybe I can only find it online. Oh, well, I'll keep trying... I see another freezing night in the forecast (31* F), so I'm not planting anything else yet, but I may start some seeds manana. I want that open NE corner of my lot covered in melons, squash, peppers, etc. I don't want another season to go by without my putting that land to good use... makes me wish I had more money and some hired help, lol. ;)

Edit: I just looked on the web, and Azomite has a site where you can punch in your location, and the site tells you where the nearest dealers are located. Looks like I'll have to drive to Las Cruces, but that's not so bad, and I have a full tank o' gas, lol. When I go, I'm gonna buy a couple sacks of the stuff, so I can use it throughout my yard... better call first to make sure the store has Azomite in stock.

Going through some of my old teaching stuff. I’ve been trying to go through things as time permits, but it’s time to make it a priority again. “Stuff” can multiply in the corners even in the garage 🙃. Easier to get it taken care of and keep up on it than to let it go too long. So other than the 2 bags of garbage, it doesn’t actually look like I’ve done anything today 🤨

Don't want to go outside it's humid and pouring like crazy. My puppy went out and go soaking wet, the old dog refused to go out ( he would rather hold it ) . Animals are all in the barn and I bet with this humid nasty weather it will be stinky in the sheep area. Somehow they pee and poop twice as much as the goats. TMI I know LOL

Got nothing done yesterday except bake a chocolate cake ( and take care of the animals which we do every day). Waiting for the weather to improve.

Wingnut, thats a cute cat!
Zannej, hope you find yours!

Today is moving day for mom's stuff. We have an interesting crew of us. Husband who is handicapped, but can drive the truck and horse trailer, me, my older sis (so, two old gals), my Oklahoma nephew who is crooked with a bad back, his wife (a sweetie), and our amish neighbor who is loaning us the horse trailer and riding along with husband to help. We will do our best! Whatever is not wanted and left in the apartment can be picked up by the maintenence guy and Mennonite Manor puts it in their thrift shop. So that's a bonus. No time to sit and look thru her boxes of jewelry, or photographs, so that will all come to our place for everyone to take their time. 'It is getting silly how many times I've moved mom.
But first, chicks are hatching (four so far), breakfast needs to be made and animal chores need to be done.

Finally completing an overdue task. Installing power in a gun safe for a golden rod (dehumidifier).

Measured and measured before using a cordless drill to drill a pilot hole though the safe wall. Hole came out right where I wanted it. Still using the cordless drill I enlarged the pilot hole to 3/8”. This will allow for size of the electric cable and a rubber grommet. Just as I reach for the vacuum to suck up the metal and drywall mess the house power goes off.

While the project is on hold until power is restored I’ll check and posted on the forums. iPad is battery powered and my Internet equipment is on a UPS.

Went into town yesterday and got stopped on the way by three moose who were feeling a tad ornery. They wouldn't get off the road and one was pawing and indicating he might charge. Had to back up a long ways and wait them out. It only took about half an hour for them to finally go bush. My version of a traffic jam.

Coulda, woulda, shoulda done a lot today. Maybe its the weather, but I found excuses to do none of it. Instead, I've flitted from room to room, occasionally wiping or tidying and thinking, I could move that piece of furniture to - wherever. I had dinner in the slow cooker and the potatoes done from yesterday, otherwise that wouldn't be done either. Going to bed early and hoping to sleep whatever it is off. Maybe the sun will shine also.

Oh wow, it was a busy day. Three pickup trucks, one trailer. Done and unloaded. But I didn't say put away, ha. Have a queen bed sitting in the middle of the upstairs family room, bins of old photographs in the front room, and moms amazing amount of costume jewelry that I need everyone to go through and take. Made a late lunch after getting home around 2:00, fed the neighbor who helped, too. It was nice to be able to leave stuff in her apartment that we didn't want, and they would pick it up for the thrift store. Made things easier. Sis, nephew, and his wife are all down visiting mom right now, and should be back any time. My favorite cousin wanted to do dinner for us all, so we'll be down there tonight. My nephew and his wife leave for home (Oklahoma) sometime tomorrow. Also my sis's aunt (not my aunt, though) will be coming for lunch and visiting tomorrow with her husband. She's a lovely lady, and I also enjoy visiting with her. They're a couple hours out. So planning a luncheon menu for them. Little granddaughter is running around trying to wash down the barncats. She thinks they are dusty, and they are not liking this wipedown.

Cut more brush. Still didn't get finished. I have made a policy of stopping with the chain saw when I start getting tired and coming back to it later. That is just a safety stance for me. Limits what I get done, but I feel better about not hurting myself. I do keep a TQ with me when sawing. Hopefully I can get finished with this area tomorrow. Things would go much faster is I had some young buck dragging off the brush when I cut it. I waste alot of time going back and forth.
Also mowed most of the place for the first time this year..

I did cleaning and heated up some orange chicken and rice for lunch. My friend got back in town from his trip. He said he got stuck in a pack of small dick energy truck drivers who went 90mph the whole way. He was stuck in their midst and had to go with the flow to avoid getting run over by them, so he ended up getting back an hour earlier. His daughter was ecstatic to see him but was bummed he couldn't buy her anything. His work somehow dropped a zero from the hours he worked and only paid him for 5 hours when he worked 50. He has to wait until Monday to sort that out with them. So, I bought the kid some frozen pizzas and got them some sodas. The little girl was ecstatic. I'm so happy to have my friends back home and save-- but the gf was feeling sick. She got a UTI (she's prone to them) again and felt awful. I've told her that if she needs anything to let me know.

Called my sister to wish her happy birthday. She's got a migraine and needed to nap though. I'm hoping she'll feel better soon.

Was walking through the kitchen and noticed Rupert on the fridge preparing to launch himself on to my shoulder (I can see the way he looks at my shoulder when he wants to jump), so I reached up and helped him climb down onto my shoulder gently. He's been wanting to sit on me all day.

Bad tired, was up til 4am with the tornadoes. Shouldn't have gone to town this afternoon but I had an errand that couldn't wait. I hope I bought enough parts and pieces, too tired to mess with it when I got home.

Nothing tonight but a little tv.
Hope you get some rest P.

Hubby and I went out to dinner. It was like the twilight zone. There is a drink that was the chef’s favorite - like a peach and lavender margarita. I had one when we were there for Christmas. The same bartender- I asked for one & he said he’d never made a drink with lavender. I didn’t make a scene or anything of course but was wondering what universe we were in. Hubby couldn’t believe it. We had been in before Christmas which is when we learned about it as he was making it. So strange. Maybe sleep with one eye open 😂

I went to our amateur radio club's "ham fest" today. I think I am done with those. This is the second one I've been to (the first was sponsored by a different club). There was zero there of interest, other than Ed - a classmate from my General license class that got canceled due to covid. I got to talk to him for a while as we were waiting for the raffle drawing. The tables of equipment were covered with dilapidated junk. Most of the sellers hadn't even bothered to wipe the dust of the junk they had. Sure, there might have been something decent for sale there and I just didn't recognize it. But to the untrained eye, it looked like the sellers had gone out to the junkyard with shovels and scooped a bunch of scrap into boxes, which they then brought to sell.

One good thing ...being there did make me feel young. Even at 66 myself, I had to be 20 years younger than the next youngest. I saw one guy trip and fall on a perfectly smooth floor. Then another one was just sitting there and for no discernible reason fell backwards off the bench and ended up on the floor. I went over to help, figuring I'd need to do CPR or something, but the dude said "I'm fine, happens all the time!" Yikes!

I totally missed that this was going on.

No wind today!

House sitting for a darling 6 month old hound mix. He sucks his tail, to the point that he partially swallows it. I drove home twice to feed the neighbors cat today, morning and late afternoon.

My 88 year old aunt from South Dakota called today. Parts of S.D. have had lots of snow this winter. They've had 80 inches. Aberdeen got 11 inches yesterday. Another storm is predicted in a couple days. Farmers haven't been able to get into the fields to plow and prepare the soil for planting.

Czech genealogy group met today, but I Zoomed the meeting. The speaker today was the Honorary Consulate of the Czech Republic in Boulder. A few years ago, the Czech Republic changed its name to Czechia. I have never liked the new name, and neither does the consulate, so he as well as others still call it the Czech Republic. Colorado has 40,000 Czechs who were born in the Czech Republic, while 250,000 have connections to the Czech Republic. He talked about getting dual citizenship. You can get dual citizenship with many countries. The guidelines for the Czech Republic is that you have to have been born there, or had a parent or grandparent born there. Evidently people in prison sometimes seek dual citizenship as a way to escape their sentences of life plus years. I surely have no idea how that works, but I guess if you are in prison for life, you have all the time in the world to think of ways to get out.
