Last full day at the cabin. Past 2 days were so cold it was tough doing outside work especially with the wind. It’s been cold enough for the heat to be on past few days. Yesterday am there was a strong frost.

Cable company coming today to hook up phone service. We had a Verizon thing that was wireless but not cellular 🤷‍♀️ I don’t know exactly what it is but it won’t work now that 5g is available. It also isn’t inexpensive. The cable package will be less cost and can be turned off when the cabin is shuttered for the winter.

Poor dad had a rough vacation with me. Needs new roof, new hot water heater won’t be installed until Monday (yeah I’ve had no hot water this week),had to get a new tire on truck, and Wednesday a turkey flew into the grill of the truck.

So it's 8:15, I have done the banking, the shopping, the dishes, and I had my breakfast.

I spoke about the wife's project but wanted to share with you her project. Mind you that she is not happy with it and it is not complete, but I thought you might find it interesting:

Hot and humid today. It's my day off. Going to do at least some of my push mowing. Also disassembling an old raised bed I haven't used in years. Leaving laundry until tomorrow, chance of storms today so I don't want hang anything out!! The farrier  may try to come trim Buddy's hooves, depending on the storm situation. Definitely planning a NAP at some point!! Happy Friday everyone!!

Wow, I think it looks great! Woke up after some 9 hrs of sleep, and it's been raining all night, and more possible all day. Lots of stuff inside to work on, but lots of animal chores first, too. I've got a flat tire on the Challenger I'll need to deal with. But for now, enjoying the first cup of coffee and the fact that I could sleep a good while. Poor husband could not. I heard him up at least 5 times last night.

Today it is raining. So I will inventory and check the date on my prepper supplies. If it stops raining, I will clear my garden spot to plant tomorrow.
Hey glory, head over to new member introductions and tell us a little about yourself. Love your avatar picture!! Welcome to the forum!!😊

My "meh" slump of the last week or so has continued, but life carries on. I feel like I'm not getting a lot done, but things are still happening. Youngest had his wisdom teeth out Wednesday. He's doing great, and I've enjoyed the excuse to join him in shakes, jello and pudding. The cats ate the few starts I'd been motivated enough to get going, so I'll be direct seeding the gardens this weekend and hitting a local greenhouse to get some starts for the things I really love. I signed up to vend at our local festival in June with my daughter in law who'll be selling homemade dog treats, so I'm getting all the 3D printers running like mad cranking out trinkets to sell there. So far magic elves have failed to come tidy the house & workshop overnight so I guess I need to start kicking the cleaning and organizing into high gear - at least I've been keeping up with the dishes & laundry. It's the clutter that threatens to swallow us whole! ;)

I got today off!! Whew hew!
We busted our last $5000.00 belt and word has it it will be several weeks b4 we get another.
So..back on graveyard next week(s)
Today,
Mowing
Chicken in the solar oven
Laundry
Garden
Need to run a few erronds later
Watch the sunset n stars come out tonight!!
So excited ..

@ABR it can be 2 weeks or 2 years and still seem just as fresh. In some ways it feels like its been forever and others it feels like it was yesterday. Grief is a nasty beast and you're not alone. Sending virtual hugs.

@Spikedriver that is tragic! I wonder if he'd been depressed for awhile, had health issues, or just didn't feel like he knew what to do with himself in retirement & felt he would be useless or something. Probably will never know but I feel for his family. I hope you get your energy back.

I got heat exhaustion from going outside briefly to find and retrieve my packages. I had a long talk yesterday with Fedex CS and they permanently have instructions to tell the drivers to leave my packages on the porch near the door. I had 3 packages. 2 were left on the sidewalk & 3rd was on the lawn much farther away. The larger boxes each contained 25lb bags of cat food. I racked out after I took pics and sent them to fedex to complain. The stuff on the sidewalk is not so bad (when its not raining), but leaving the other one on the lawn pissed me off.

Waiting for Mom to get up so I can cook for her. Also waiting to hear back from my friend on when he can help me with my bathroom again. I might have to try to do stuff without him if he backs out again.

I got a postcard in the mail this week. First, I didn’t know postcards were made anymore or that the usps sold stamps that say ‘post card’ on them.

Unfortunately the senders handwriting is as bad as mine (no worries about strangers reading it). I can barely make out… I think it says the sender bought me a book online and had it shipped to me. Although the name is illegible, think its from a cousin to visited the folks last week… Except it has a Birmingham post mark, she doesn’t live in birmingham, not within 100miles.

Well, I guess I get to wait and see if a book shows up.

Another rainy day here, got peppers set out in the garden in between showers.

Package finally arrived after I raised he-double hockey-sticks. Tirade wiped me out so didn't get everything done today that I wanted to. I'll work on things this weekend. Of course every time I'm near the auto shop my truck A/C works just fine but after I'm almost home it quits again. Don't think my garden will be what I wanted this year, but I just don't have the energy or drive for it currently. Pulled out all the tools that my younger brother has given me in the last month to take stock of what I have now. Need to do a little internet search on a few to see what they can do.

Trying to decide what to have engraved on the memorial pendant that I'm going to order. I want it to be just right. Normally I would ask him but... yeah. I'm completely lost without him.

@ABR I'm glad our package finally arrived but sorry you were exhausted from raising hell with them. I've found sometimes you have to raise hell with them to get the packages delivered & its a royal pain. It shouldn't be that difficult.

I'm relaxing and trying to figure out if I can find something for Mom to eat. My brother ate her lobster bisque without asking so now she's hangry.

Here is my adorable granddaughter :)

We had a nice time visiting, went to the beach, went out to eat to a good Japanese restaurant ( we never go out to eat here since there really are no good restaurants here) , watched the baby while daughter and her husband went to the gym and went to the State park to see if we want to camp there sometime. First Landing, very nice park on the beach.

@sonya123 glad you got to see the little one.
I was sad to leave . Who knows when we get to visit again. They are both in the Navy and she is going back to work Monday so they don't have time either. Daughter is not happy about going back to work , hope the little one will be ok at the babysitter.
She is on her own a lot since her husband is on a ship half the time. At least when my kids were little my husband was home, even if he worked long hours and I did all the childcare and house chores. It's not easy working when you have kids.

Some more photos and then I have to get started...
First Landing State Park, then Appomattox Court house ( we stopped there on the way to have lunch, sad place in US history , it's where the South officially surrendered) , Virginia Beach . I would post some photos of us, but daughter does not want her photo online on random forums lol ( because of her job)

Welcome back, Magus!

Sonya, those are cool pics!

I slept through my alarm set to get my curbside pickup order. It was from 7 to 8 and I woke up at 7:54. Called Walmart & asked if they could hold my order for another 20min. They said not to worry, people miss the window all the time and they hold it for awhile. I made it over in 15min & the guy who brought my stuff out said they would hold stuff all day so not to worry. I still had to go into the store to get some things they wouldn't do with curbside. Like the lobster bisque my mom likes. That's what she wanted last night that my brother ate. She ended up eating a salad instead and was giving me stinkeye as if I had eaten her food. I got 2 this time so if my brother eats one there should still be one for her. I wish he would ask before eating stuff.

Left arm was screaming at me as I was trying to put groceries away. I had to open a new box of litter for the kitties. I like the Slide kind because it comes out way easier than some of the other litter that seems to cement itself to the box. The clumps come out easier with slide. Fed the kitties but some decided they wanted cuddles instead so I've got a few on my lap. I'm going to see if Fippy wants to go into Mom's room (so I can roll on my side and move pillows and blankets around without him fussing at me.

Still waiting to hear back from my friend.

Did the chickens this morning; several of the eggs were pecked through on top with half the contents sucked out. My guess is the %&(#(__)!! magpies.

Finally planted the potato eyes in the three tater tire towers (three each truck tires filled with amended soil): one each Yukon Golds, Pontiac Reds, and Russets. Should've done most of my planting three weeks ago, but it's been too damn cold.

NOAA and the rest of the boys are saying that el Niño is coming and it's going to be a big one. My guess is a very hot summer; fortunately, the lakes here are getting full and the aquifer is pretty much recharged.

We're taking the afternoon off to drive to Boise and check out an Ethiopian restaurant I've heard about. Dawn and I both love Ethopian food and also like to cook it; this will be an expedition to see how a local (at least local to Idaho) restaurant prepares our favorites. One of the downsides in living in a low-population state without any really big cities is that if you like exotic foods, you'd better learn to cook them yourself!

Library run, I need more Westerns! Might check their DVD collection too, it has been awhile since I looked. Everything is free, but the DVDs have to be returned within a week, books within three weeks.

Otherwise, I plan on unpacking those moving boxes and doing some decorating in the bathrooms... haven't even done that yet. It'll be good to reclaim some of my former life and get those boxes out of the way. :)

Weedygarden, its refrigerated. Comes in a plastic container that can be microwaved. No way to stash it to keep it safe.

Wingnut, libraries in your area are open on Saturday? They aren't open on weekends in this area. My paternal grandfather was an extra in a western movie. Paramount pictures one, but don't know which one. My father either never knew or didn't remember. But it was on TV when he was a kid and recognized his dad when his dad pointed it out to him. I wonder if my uncle remembers...

Heard back from my friend, but no answer on helping with the bathroom. His last kitten died and he's really upset. My stomach doesn't like me today and I'm trying to figure out what, if anything, I can get done with my arm giving me grief.
