It was a good day at work. These 3am starts are getting old, though. It feels weird to get off at 1pm and realize you've worked 10 hours. The weather has been great here, 45-50° at 3am for our morning briefing and then it's over 60 when the sun gets up. Of course we're working at the bottom of a canyon, on the south side, so sometimes we don't see the sun until after 10am.

I'm going to have some Campbell's soup for dinner and crash early. Tomorrow is pack night and I've got a 14 hour drive on Monday plus I lose an hour from mountain time to central time. Haven't decided if I'll stop and get a hotel when I get tired or if I'll just nap in the truck. Guess we'll see...

Hey, Bacpacker! Remember when I posted that 'Godzilla' video link a few days ago? Well, evidently Godzilla is alive and well in Alamogordo, and driving a Chevy Malibu, lol... check these pics from the library parking lot! Note stereo system speakers and fuzzy dice!

4 weeks ago tonight I arrived at the folk school event (4days in heaven). Hoped I would recover in two weeks. Nope, that didn’t happen. This week I’ve finally turned the corner to get back to normal. Not there yet but able to think at a higher level which is always a good thing.

This week I got a new window ac, got it installed and weather proofed. Went to the big town yesterday, a major shopping day, even got 2 trays of pepper plants during a lighting storm. It was impressive, I saw a dozen lighting bolts in about 20min. Several were close enough I felt the boom inside my truck while driving.

Today was a big laundry day along with putting stuff away. My baggage from the folk school was still sitting where I dropped it, some still in the living rm. I simply haven’t had the energy, til today. Now that I can see the floor again… I got about half the mopping done but got all the area rugs vacuumed.

Have to get my plants set out tomorrow, probably in between rain showers, it’s rained for 3 days. Flash flooding and storm warnings every evening. Well, at least I won’t have to water my plants after I set them out in mud.
Your Lightning storm reminds me of the time we were living in Denver and took a trip to my wife's cousin in western Kansas, on the way back to Denver there was a constant lightning storm we drove in the middle of, lightning striking both sides of the hi way, raining so hard the windshield couldn't clear it away, our son that was just a few years old disappeared, he had hidden on the floor just in front of the rear seat of our 78' Bronco, the storm had scared the heck out of him, stressed me as well as we were towing our travel trailer, probably the worst storm I've ever driven in and I had driven in some pretty bad ones over the years.

Library run, I need more Westerns! Might check their DVD collection too, it has been awhile since I looked. Everything is free, but the DVDs have to be returned within a week, books within three weeks.

Otherwise, I plan on unpacking those moving boxes and doing some decorating in the bathrooms... haven't even done that yet. It'll be good to reclaim some of my former life and get those boxes out of the way. :)
Did you ever see The Rounders with Ford and Fonda? It’s pretty good- funny.

Yesterday and today have been melting in the garden trying to get things in the dirt. Last night oldest niece came over to drop off a dress to hem and have supper: pork shoulder roast with Italian seasoned sun dried tomatoes and little red spuds with garlic and parsley roasted in cast iron. Then for dessert a rhubarb pie.
Thunder boomers are banking against the mountains so we’re supposed to cool off tonight and be back down to the 80s tomorrow 😁. I’m heading back out to meltville here in a minute to do some more weeding and plant Brussels Sprouts.

Had an issue with the waterer in the chick tub last night. It was a few days past due for a clean out but I just hadn’t had the time or energy to get to it til today. Well the waterer either leaked or they tipped it and it made a disgusting muddy mess. Clean chicks from last night were mucky this morning. Got them moved over to a large wire dog kennel to to dry out and give their tub a good scrub. Hopefully get enough finished on the coop tomorrow and Monday to get them moved over there. Got all the rest of the critter chores done as well.

Hopefully I can fall asleep early enough tonight to wake up earlier tomorrow and get some things done outside before the heat gets too bad. Already getting into the 90s here.

I have a long list of things that need doing in the next few weeks. My SO was such a great workmate and I didn't realize how much I leaned on him, but I can't let grief keep me paralyzed any longer. Just going to take it day by day and slowly chip away at the projects on my own.

Picked up a couple of concord grape plants, and some potted gerber daisies at our neighbor's greenhouse. She'll be selling bushels of beets next month, so I'll get a bunch for the freeze dryer. Bought 50lbs of hard red wheat berries at the bulk store, and they had a number of used buckets and half buckets with lids for sale. I needed more half buckets to repack the berries. Neighbor lady and I talked and will be butchering on Tuesday...the meat chickens are getting very fat and are more than ready.

I got my 6x8 chicken coop inside my chicken coop finished and the chick's moved out of the house. No more brooding the little stinkers in the house.

Made a window screen for the rec room where the freeze dryer is so I could open the window at night and keep mosquitoes out. The forest fire smoke moved somewhere else and we could see out the windows today.

we got those in central Florida every afternoon in summer, funny thing is, our house never got hit, but here , we had 1 lightening in a storm when we first moved here right next to the house and it knocked out all the electric we had just installed

we need to mow on the side of the road and around the house. The grass is about 3 foot
One more poor snake bites the dust, the mail man ran over it yesterday
Going to rent a bobcat to move our manure pile next to the barn. Neighbor started but he only has time on Saturdays and it's been raining and too muddy when he had time so we just need to rent something and get it done. Once again I regret not buying a tractor with a loader on it . We are going to move it up the road next to the house the bucks live in. That area is not used for anything other than compost pile. It will be a 2 day job for sure
Well, they are closed today so it will have to wait till tomorrow

Weeded yesterday until it started raining. Husband helped. Son is taking a few days off after all the work he did while we were gone.. Don't blame him

I have a lot of unpleasant and stressful things to do this months. Need to go to the doctor for a check up to get my blood pressure medication renewed ( or not) need to go to the dentist for cleaning , need to take dog to vet for shots and take 2 old goats and a sheep to the auction truck.

Slow start today, I was up late reading that Red Clark Western. Gonna water the new plantings (rain did NOT pan out, it just sprinkled a bit and that was it), possibly put up some decor in the bathrooms (haven't decided yet), and knock out some household chores. Probably watch one of those library DVDs later... 😒

Little granddaughter and I tackled the big front porch. Planted flowers in all the big pots, shook our fingers at the cats to stay out of them. She trimmed the shoots off the big maple tree in the front yard. Everything swept and beautified. Now a little time to plant cabbage plants under the netting. Stopping for lunch soon. Maybe I can get husband to eat out on the porch on the rockers, it's beautiful today. Dinner tonight at my favorite cousin's place.

Yesterday
Went with my friend to buy a bull for his cows. Then drove up the mountain west of me a tad to drop him off.
That was a bit of a fiasco but we got it done.
Then had a bbq with all the folks that helped.
Today:
Made dog food
Mowing
Put lunch together
Planted romas, acron squash n butternut squash.. n watered..
Need to get back to mowing ..
Going to go shrooming later..they should be popping up

@Amish Heart the cats dig in your flower pots? Squirrels dig in mine. I don't know if putting bits of light weight fence wire to fit the pot on top of the soil would handle that or not. I keep meaning to try, they'll probably pick it up and throw it on the ground.
Things are great really suck with the rental office. But I can laugh about it. You wouldn't believe all the crap schtoof in that lease agreement. If you own your own place and have for years, count your blessings that things have gone well enough that you didn't have to sell, or have to move, or whatever.
Had church this morning. Just doing some household chores, digging through craft stuff. Work on a cabinet later. Reading a book.
Supposed to clear off tonight after midnight. @kd4ulw what are your skies looking like? It has been cloudy every night for more than a week. Hope this will be a good night for astronomy.

What a chore… cleaning the refrigerator, actually it’s little freezer. Ever have 5 pepsi’s explode in a freezer? Everything in it was a sticky mess.

(After the folk school I was completely exhausted. I can push myself only so far then my mind and body goes on strike. I have use a triple kitchen timer for everything I do, as an assist, a reminder. Not for cooking but basics like doing laundry or getting things cold, a tv show coming on... I have the attention span of a gold fish)

Soda’s need 1hr 20min to get ice cold in the little freezer. I needed cold sodas when I got back from the school. Evidently I wasn’t in the room when the timer went off so I completely forgot about the sodas til the next day. There were 8 of them, 5 cracked. I had to use a putty knife on some of the goop.

The freezer is now clean along with everything in it. I got most of the kitchen mopped, finally put down a new area rug in the foyer (bought it weeks ago). I put the old one out side in the yard, it’s been raining everyday. Gonna let nature clean it for me.

Hey Patchouli...cats don't always dig in the big pots, sometimes they just lay on top of the flowers like they own the place. Heard some frantic meowing behind the freezer in the milkhouse....one of the kittens was exploring a bit too far. Got him put back with his buddies. Did get more cabbage planted, potatoes came up, so did some weeding. Put in 5 tomato plants today, and found 3 volunteers. So those also got fed, watered, mulched, and staked. I have a greenhouse full of stuff to plant yet, so a little at a time.

Didn't fall asleep until about 8:30 this morning then sister called and woke me up around 10:30. Had a migraine from lack of sleep and lots of crying so today was pretty much shot for getting things done. I did get all the critters fed and waters filled at least. Really needed to work on the coop but I didn't trust myself with power tools and sharp objects.

Rain finally moved through Saturday morning and cleared the smoke from the Canadian wildfires that has been hanging around. Just past a new moon so your skies will be nice and dark if you venture out!

Some of us have to get up at 5 am so I’m going to have to take a pass. ☹️

I went to pick up some stuff at Walmart. Friend said his kids were throwing up so I grabbed pediatric nausea meds. Also grabbed some rice for him to cook. Got over there and he wasn't home. Other friend (his gf) said he rushed his daughter to hospital (after urgent care recommended it). Currently waiting for them to transfer her to a competent hospital for appendectomy. He was going to come over tomorrow, but I'm guessing that is not happening.

I got pvc boards hauled to workshop and primed. Fingertip is numb from the spray nozzle. Might go back down and do 2nd coat bc the black bar codes on the boards were still showing through and I want to make sure they are completely hidden when I paint. Still need to paint corner trim but need to have the boards out of the way to do it.
