I'm planning on mowing my lawn and cutting back the bushes and limbs that are hanging over my property today. It's going to be a bit of work, but I'm looking forward to making my yard look nice and tidy. I always feel so accomplished after a day of yard work. Plus, it's a great way to get some exercise and fresh air. I just hope the weather holds up and it doesn't get too hot out there. Wish me luck!

Yesterday we went to a Dr.'s Apt... We left an hour early, got in a traffic jam and arrived 10 minutes late, thankfully they held a room for us... ;) Been going there every 6 weeks for 15 years and this was the first time we were ever late, they were worried. ;)

Last night I ran the cord from my solar/battery emergency power station to the wife's new window air-conditioner, it seems to be carrying the load fine today. This is a big step for me because it off-loads about a third of the house cooling needs... Oh, my power bill arrived last night, $300 and it's not hot yet, so I guess I got things rigged up just in time.

That should save you $$$.

Treating ear canal blockages... I made the mistake of using one of those cheap 'Equate' earwax removal kits from Walmart a few days ago, and it just made things worse. For several days, I've walked around feeling like I'm wearing earplugs... no balance issues, but annoying, and hard to hear the TV. Also difficult to pinpoint the origin or location of sound. I broke down and bought some hydrogen peroxide (since I was out, of course), and today my primary mission is to eliminate these blockages. Everything else can wait... I don't like having one of my senses dulled, unless I choose to dull it through partying, lol. I wish I'd never used the stupid earwax removal kit, my ears weren't that bad at the outset, I just noticed some excess wax... I'll damned sure never use one of those kits again. Oh, well, I have a whole quart of hydrogen peroxide, if that doesn't do the trick I dunno what will, lol. Good thing I had a large pack of Q-Tips (500 count), I've been going through 'em the way a scumbag politician goes through tax dollars, aye? 😒

P.S. I once had what was called a "bilateral ear infection"---both ears infected at once---and though I recovered, my ears have always been a bit sketchy when it comes to wax & fluids in the ear canals. I can hear perfectly well when they're healthy, but anytime this sorta blockage occurs, it's like I'm freakin' deaf, lol. Definitely hearing-impaired at the moment! BTW, where's Pearl? I hope she's okay... 😬

I'm here, just way off schedule and scrambling for money! I have two people I work for in the hospital, been doing some carpet cleaning to make up for not having them. Been a bad month! Took Sammy to the vet, all of our vehicles had/have issues that had to be fixed, have a major house insurance payment due, amongst other things! So I just got out of whack, hopefully things are turning around!! Sorry if LadyLocust picked on anyone too much, I'm back, that will draw her attention away from the unsuspecting!!😮😉🙃😃👁️

So glad to see ya back, Pearl! You da bomb! :woo hoo:

And yes, that's the rotgut vino talking, lol... but the sun IS over the yardarm, and I'm dealing with a "medical issue" in the form of ear canal blockages! Definitely life-threatening! The rotgut vino is "medicinal!" BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

P.S. My tequila bottle on the bar is ashamed of me for buying a gallon of rotgut vino... never live it down, most likely. 😢

Edit: Here's the rotgut vino, and it's NOT just a GALLON, it's 4 STINKING LITERS, WOOHOO!!!

Normally I buy Sangria to make wine coolers, but the Paisano was stronger at 12% alcohol... "SOLD!!!" 🤣

Final observation: As if---AS IF---the winos who normally drink this cr@p actually CARE whether it's friggin' gluten-free, PFFFFFFFFFFT! This gluten-free business is gettin' outta hand! I'll take EXTRA GLUTEN with my rotgut vino, thank you very much! Same way I order EXTRA MSG at Chinese restaurants, BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! 😲

It cracks me up what products are marked gluten free. Finished the chicken butchering with neighbor Kathy and her three kids. Little granddaughter got a workout helping with the kids. We had a huge lunch afterwards, she brought two big desserts, and now I'm having coffee and trying for my second wind. Have a big icechest in the kitchen filled up with whole chickens, and I sent her home with a big bag of them, too. I'll keep them chilled for a day or so, then piece them up for the freezer. That 5 ft by 6 ft run the meat chickens were in now needs cleaning out so I can put a pair of turkeys in it. Tried out my new butchering gloves today, too, and they worked real well. No cuts.

Just came up to the house for a sandwich, cold drink and a cigar. I sat my cigar down and the dog took and buried it. Dang dog.
Going to load up some more posts and get back to the fence.
I'll bet he was just hiding behind the house, smoking that stogie...... Next he'll open up your fridge and have a cold one!

Crazy day at the day job here, new phone system today and Murphy's law is kicking our butts with it. Some fat fingered changes had one of our plants offline for an hour this morning and getting all the users up and running on new phones has been an uphill battle. The good news is the new system is "in the cloud" so I can install the app on my smartphone and answer my work number even if I'm out in the gardens ;)

As far as the gluten free labeling as someone who's guts rebel when gluten is consumed GF labeling isn't worth the paper they are written on. Plenty of things labeled GF aren't good enough for my sensitive guts... And gluten is in all sorts of things you wouldn't expect it to be in. Wally world sticks it in their beef to help hold more water (more $ for them), and lots of manufacturers dust their assembly lines with flour to keep things running smoothly... :(

Shift at the cat shelter, then got another tomato plant and 3 Jalepeno plants from the local Nursery. I'll plant them and the fig on thursday when it's cooler.

Cut my hairs, took a shower and shaved with my safety razor, Lori won't recognize me when she gets home :p

Teej, 1st - I'm not a Dr.! But if your guts are that sensitive, might avoid canola oil. I will leave it at that, but you'd be surprised ;)

Thanks! Canola oil has been on the no-no list for a while! I stick with "good" olive oil, homemade lard, or ghee for fats. I feel like I cook like cavepeople most days, but it keeps my innards happy, so it's worth it :)

I drove right at a thousand miles since 7pm last night, and I finally made it to Pop's house. I'm going to try and take a short nap before the visitation for our old neighbor Jack. He was my best friend's stepfather and when we were kids we worked for each other's dads. I went over there to bale hay for Jack, my buddy came over here to help work cattle for Pops, etc. My friend's sisters are like sisters to me, his little half brother (who is almost 40 years old now) is like a little brother I never had. It's going to be a rough night. There are a lot of questions still to be answered about why Jack took his own life. I picked up a six pack of Stella on the way up here, and we'll pour one out over a fire tonight...

I was going to post this in the rant section, but we were so lucky, I will just put it here...
Drove to town today to pick up a small loader to move our manure pile. Stopped at RK to get a roll of fence, some chicken feed and some CDT vaccine ( since I left the last batch on the counter me bad...) . Husband started to drive through the parking lot and almost ran into someone, slammed it in first gear and finally stopped. The brakes completely went out. We opened the hood and there is brake fluid leaking everywhere so probably master cylinder or a line attached. You could see the trail of brake fluid behind us.

If this had happened after picking up the trailer and loader and driving down the mountain we would have crashed bad. So very lucky despite the problem

So called son to pick us up in my truck ( since we needed to put the roll of fence somewhere large and he has a car) , called the tow truck, called the rental place and changed it to delivery and pickup which will cost and extra $300 , called several car repair places in the area of course all booked up so we sent it to Firestone which I don't really like anymore ( the one in Orlando was good, the one here not so much) which can get to it sooner

So ...daughter woke me up with a text at 6 am and said she went back to work and they told her she had leave until end of June...HUH?? How can she/them not know when her leave is up?? LOL

Yesterday we finally did something about the rats in the chicken coop. Nasty things. We caught all the hens and put them in a different building , a room we have used in the past to quarantine new goats or house extra bucks. Then we cleaned it out and I put an entire paper plate full of poison geen bate chunks in it, and husband put out all the traps we have. So 2 hours later ALL the poison is gone and half the traps went off but no rats in the traps. I added some more poison . I wonder how long it takes for them to die so we can move the chickens back. They are usually outside during the day and go in the coop at night, but now they are just in because we can't catch them outside and I am afraid some rat will drop a chunk of poison outside, so we want to check that first.

How do you get rid of rats, if you have any ?
Remove the food from the coop

I guess I'd forgotten just how heavy railroad ties are. They're a little too heavy for this old man to carry around on my shoulder any more. Got one post carried out to the corner by our lower gate. Got the hole dug down almost 3 feet when the post hole digger handle broke. I'll need to find a new one tomorrow.
When I start working on replacing the remote corner posts I'll use a horse to drag the posts out there.

What a whirlwind of a day! Just work but a couple of large projects they want finished up by week’s end 🙃
Gorgeous day today- been sleeping with the windows open. Last night I had to pull up an extra blanket but it’s refreshing rather than freezing like in winter.
@sonya123 glad nobody was hurt! That could have been very ugly.
@Spikedriver Hope you get some rest amidst the grief. You will certainly be due for a break both physically and emotionally.

Get yourself a set of tie tongs. Once you learn how to use them it makes things a lot easier.

Really, the best thing is a backhoe. We don't move ties by hand on the railroad. Too much chance of getting hurt.
