An average day that turned bad, cfs again. I needed to go to town. When I arrived I didn’t yet realize I’d lost the ability to communicate effectively. Its actually a lot more complicated than that but that’s the end result. Frustrating as all heck!!!

The trip wasn’t a total waste, I was able to get 3 key pieces of information, unable to act on the info but there’s always tomorrow. Have to order the tires I need for the truck. Figured out which ones I wanted today, just couldn't say the words 'yes, order them'. So, I'll call in the morning.

I have a trailer load of scrap metal I need to sell. I stopped and got the new hours at the scrap yard. Was unable to ask the prices. Doesn’t really matter, I need it gone what ever the price.

I stopped at the small engine shop and saw my generator run... good to go. The guy said the fuel was full of trash/sediments. The tank has a screen, I use a fuel stabilizer and use water remover if needed. I must have gotten a couple jerry cans of bad gas. That sort of thing happens. The generator was due for major service anyway.

So, another trip to town thursday... After selling the scrap metal I'll leave the trailer at the small engine shop. Go and get new tires then pick up the trailer/generator on the way out of town.

Just a regular work day! Few rain showers around. It was drizzling when I went out to feed Buddy, he stood in his shed and honked. I put his hay and grain out in the pasture. Took him a few minutes to realize I was not bringing it to him! He managed to get his spoiled butt out of barn and get his breakfast!

Hey, there! Just wanted to share that I have a pretty busy schedule coming up. I'll be taking my car in for service today. Then tomorrow and Friday, I'll be taking my daughter to her state school testing. Even though she's homeschooled, it's important that she still takes the tests. It's hard to believe that she only has one more year of school left! Time really does fly by.

We're going up to the hardware store this morning. Need to get a new post hole digger, more fence posts for the new grape vines, livestock panels, some 8 foot T posts for the new chicken run, pressure treated 4x4's, etc. Then back to work on the fence.
Last summer some of our cows got out, so there's a break in the fence somewhere on the south line. Just haven't found it yet.

I went to the visitation last night. It was actually not as hard as I expected it to be. The family is doing somewhat better that I thought. There were a lot of long hugs and "I love you" from old friends. The youngest son took me by surprise when I went through the line to greet the family. When we shook hands he suddenly pulled me in and started sobbing, and ended up with his face on my shoulder for a couple minutes. You won't find a 38 year old man expressing emotion like that in public very often, in the culture of my small town.

Jack's wife (my best friend's mom) said she couldn't believe I would drive a thousand miles overnight to get there for the visitation. I told her that I spent almost as much time with them, as I did with my own family when I was a kid. There was no way I would miss it.

The local farmers are making plans to help the younger son bring in the harvest this year. He and Jack had finished planting, but they had just enough land that one man really won't be able to handle the harvest and fall tillage by himself. My brother volunteered to spend a couple days hauling grain for him. Others will help with tillage. At times like this, I'm always reminded of the advantages of living in a rural community. People come together in times of need...

Already walked this morning.
Cut up carrots for dog treats.
Friend gave me a 3 gallon bucket of red potatoes, so I will be Pressure canning them today.
Already have one load of laundry in the dryer.

My little Peanut Butter dog got stung by a bee yesterday. Along with her liver problems, I thought we might lose her last night, but she seems a little better today. Not her normal self, yet but better.

Friend that came to help pull up stumps from bush hogging was a Godsend, yesterday. Apparently, I am not as strong as I used to be. I still have some branches to pick up and will work on that slowly.

@sonya123 , I'm so glad that happened where it did and that no one was hurt!

Survived the tall wine coolers yesterday... today I'm knocking out routine chores, still haven't cracked those moving boxes but I'm hoping to do so this afternoon. Gotta get those bathrooms decorated so I can move on to the kitchen project. Ugh. Meh, I'm working on dredging up the motivation, lol... gonna share quality time with the cats today, they keep me sane, lol. Well, ALMOST sane... 😳

Just got done with Jack's funeral. He was a volunteer firefighter for 37 years, a former chief, and he was a "Red Coat" - a former president of the state firefighter's association. So, they had a firefighter's memorial. All the past and present Red Coats were in attendance along with the state firefighter honor guard.

The local FD carried Jack's boots, pants, coat, and helmet in and placed them on his coffin before the preacher spoke. Then the Red Coats rang "four fives" on the bell. There wasn't a dry eye in the house by then. Finally the firemen saluted him with silver axes an hooks and proceeded out. They played "The Fighting 17th" while the firefighters filed out behind the casket. It was all quite moving.

Your report brings tears to my eyes as I recalled my fathers funeral. He was a life member of the local VFD, president etc.

The VFD served as his pall bearers.

Loaded his casket on the back of a fire truck for his final ride to the cemetery.

Where an Air Force honor guard took over and gave him a 21 gun salute. ( He served 23 years in first the Marines then retired after serving in the Air Force)

Thank you for prompting the memory!

Little granddaughter and I went bin shopping this morning, then filled a cart at Aldi. Came back home for lunch, then out again later to take husband for a haircut and to Walmart. Alot of putaways I still need to deal with tomorrow. Had the weekly update on how mom is doing from a nurse. She's still not wanting to eat, so they're trying some high calorie liquid that will pack it in better than ensure. Little granddaughter was asked over to our amish neighbors and to bring the slip and slide. Neighbor Levi (the terror) joined them, and they had a good time. We bought a pool at Aldi today that we'll try to get set up this week.

Finished my Wednesday by going to visit my mom at the nursing home. My friend's family had so many flowers from Jack's memorial that they insisted I take a vase full of peonies and daisies to my mom. They thought that those pretty flowers would be better off brightening up my mom's room, instead of in a house of mourning. Mom thought they were beautiful.

Then I got a message from my friends inviting me over to their house. I picked up a 6 pack of some strong IPA beer and a 6 pack of Corona and headed over with the beers on ice. They already had a bottle of Balvenie opened up when I got there. We sat out on the patio until 11pm, telling stories and sharing memories. There were tears flowing, but a lot of laughs too. The healing process has begun.

To those of you who may be struggling, reach out. Do it now. Jack left four adult children and a wife without any warning and no explanation. The only thing they can know for sure is that he was found slumped over in the front seat of his Gator, with a pistol in his hand and a bullet in his head. Don't leave your loved ones this way. Whatever is happening, can be overcome...

Spikedriver: so sorry about your friend, just read that

Inresponse: good luck with the new job

Pearl: good luck with the finances, we have that problem at the moment also. I think I am going to have a heart attack when I see my next credit card bill....

So no news on the truck. I call that stupid place and they can't even tell me when they will get to it. When I called first time, they said " we will most likely get to it this afternoon" , well , now it is 2 days later and they haven't even looked at it and can't tell me when they will. Their excuses: we had someone call in sick the brakes are bad so we need to get a tow truck to get it inside ( WHAT? You can't push the thing a few feet??), there was a family emergency. If I had known that I would have told them to tow it to the better and cheaper repair place in the other direction! At least they were honest enough to tell me that they can't get to it until after Memorial Day. Now I am debating if we should have it towed there but it's a long way from this place ( an hour drive) .

The rental bobcat arrived and husband and son drove up and down all day moving the manure pile and it's not even half gone. Didn't realize how long this would take

I feel stressed already today. Dreading to call that stupid firestone place back. We never had this much problem getting vehicles fixed in Orlando. I don't know if this is because these are small towns around here, or it started because of covid. It didn't seem as bad before that but we didn't have many problems with the vehicles then.

Keep telling myself to not stress, it could be worse....

At work tonight (last night) I get a text from my GF that her tire is flat. Where are you? Home, it's in the driveway. She took her (adult) sons truck to pick up her daughter. "It's super flat!" "Like a pancake!" "They probably wont fix it because they are old, I will have to buy 4 new tires!" Ugh!!!
I reply I will check it when I get home. Thinking it is just a hole and I will plug it and it will be good for a few weeks or so until we get new tires.
"I gotta go to work Saturday morning!" "If I have to get new tires it needs to be done ASAP!!!"
My reply, "Chill out!!!"
Dang it all, she has two 20-something sons at home and she is texting me this crap? Remember the day when young men would step up and at least try to do something to help mom? Let's see, jack in the garage, socket and breaker bar to remove the wheel, look things over, look for a problem. Nope, she has to text me at work.
4am I get home from work, open the garage door, grab a light and the jack and some cardboard to kneel on, take off the wheel, look at the tire, and......... I don't see any nails or screws or holes. Used a pick to clean any and all small stones out of all the grooves. Fill it with air, can't find a leak. Spray some soapy water on the tire and find a leak in the center of the tread, ideal place for a plug if it will seal, ...... but she still needs new tires and being all wheel drive she needs 4 tires. Looking about $220 a tire plus mounting and balancing. I hope she put money away for a rainy (sunny) day.

Day two of work after giving my 2 week notice. I learned 2 things, my vacation time I haven't used for the year expires and is lost on the anniversary of my hire date which is next week, but because I am at 2 years I get 2 weeks of vacation on that same date. Talked to the HR lady and she said she will extend my final day and should be able to get me my current vacation pay and my upcoming vacation pay and although my last day of work will be the same they will keep me on the books until that vacation time is used up. Yay for me. I was under the impression that if vacation was not used they would pay it out but a coworker didn't use his and they paid him for it, and that was just a few months ago. I told her either way I would not be mad if I lost it but I would be grateful if it works out as she plans. Either way I look at it as bonus money, either 2 weeks of "free" cash or just over 3 weeks of "free" cash. I know, I earned it, but in the olden days when I took vacation it was always without pay, until I hit my "adult" years and got real jobs. I still have that old mindset though, hoping it works out but if I lose it I wont be to upset because I still get 2 weeks of "free" money and I will be at my new job close to home so it will be 2 weeks of double pay checks.

Well, off to try and fix a tire then off to bed. Happy day to all ya'all and soon to be sweet dreams to me.

I tell myself that all the time! And yes, it sure could be worse!!

Up early and will walk first.
Walk dogs.
Make a cake for funeral meal tomorrow at Church.
Pick up branches.
Bible study tonight as long as Peanut Butter is doing well. She seems to have turned the corner and is getting back to her old self with a little less energy so far. We are happy she still is happy!
Glad to hear that about PB, how scary!
