OK, fine, geesh, I am not to bed yet. I decided I needed to eat the remaining chicken breast with Ranch/Hot Sauce before I lie down and figure out I am hungry. The tire is plugged and holding air. Left a note for the GF to buy a new set of the same tires that are on the car. Also mentioned we know they are wearing more on the inside and i will look into new springs/struts to correct that problem.
OK, dinner/breakfast is yummy. Headed to bed soon enough.

Doing laundry, still working on the ear canal blockage & gnat infestation, though there seems to be progress on both fronts... I'll keep using the hydrogen peroxide until the ear canal blockage subsides, and the gnat problem seems better, a wave of them must have perished overnight. The gnat infestation is definitely linked to these weeds beneath our windows, the dying weeds reach some stage of decomposition which favors gnat production... that's the only way I see it, due to scientific observations of the gnats and their environment under my windows. In the future, I will chop these weeds before they start dying, or kill 'em early and be done with 'em. The weeds themselves aren't noxious, and earlier this year they were the only flowering plants in my yard, so I left 'em in place for the bees... but they are somehow linked to these gnat infestations, which thankfully only last a few days. I'm guessing that the decomposing weeds offer nutrients and/or a favorable environment for gnat production, hence the temporary infestations as banks or beds of weeds die. Sometimes ya learn stuff the hard way in the high desert, lol. 😒

What else am I doing today? Decorating the bathrooms, WOOHOO!!! In all honesty, I haven't really begun yet, I've been checking the contents of these remaining moving boxes and there are all kinds of pictures and posters and whatnot to be considered, so I'm in the process of selecting the decor I want on the walls. I also have to keep the kitchen project in mind, some of the artwork will go up on those walls, though I'm saving the decorative tiles and plates for one kitchen wall... those tiles & plates will look good in that location, and they'll fit in too. I reckon it'll take me a few more days to figure it all out and get the bathrooms decorated... good thing I gave myself until the end of June to finish the kitchen, lol. Whatever materials are not chosen as decor items will eventually be donated, all part of the streamlining process. You see, I've slowly downsized my home over the years, so I probably won't be able to fit all the decor on the walls, which is fine... I'll put some pics on the front porch wall once it's painted, and the rest can get boxed up and dropped off at the nearest thrift shop. I've already had my use out of ALL this stuff, so if some gets donated, no worries... 😎

P.S. I'm enjoying a nice tall wine cooler after watering plants, doing chores & getting cleaned up for the day...

We are going to go to the RV dealer and do a walk through of our new travel trailer.
We need to know how everything works so it will take some time.
We are going to leave it at the dealers until we go home on June 1st because there really isn't a good place to park it where we are now.
We are also going to Costco to buy a mattress for it because the mattress in new RVs are junk.

I tell myself that all the time! And yes, it sure could be worse!!
well it turns out it IS worse

So all the brake lines in the truck need replacing and they have to make them ( to fit the truck) so it will take 2 weeks min. We need this truck to haul animals in 2 weeks . I cannot reschedule the meat processor or the auction truck. So I have been looking to rent a truck but you can't rent one to haul stuff. I guess next we will ask our Amish neighbors to see who they get to haul their trailers....
I wonder if I can pull that trailer with my Yukon, but my luck IT will break.

So if our farming comes to an end it will be because of vehicle problems. How sad is that?! We can't afford $60000 and up for a new one ( I have never owned a new vehicle in my life either) , there are no used ones any better than what we have available, there are no parts, you can't rent one, you can't get anyone to fix anything in a reasonable amount of time. How in the world are we supposed to deal with this?
I think I am going to drink some wine....

The law of the universe got us again: if you are happy , something really bad will happen. We had a nice trip to go visit the daughter and grandbaby, the animals are doing well, the grass looks good, the market is going well and we are not sick....so the vehicle problems get us. Just like last year. At this rate even my money spell won't be able to keep up.....

I think you need a second opinion on those brake lines!!

This is the next corner post I'm going to start on tomorrow. It should go pretty easy. I can drive my 4 wheeler and trailer to within 300 yards of it, then I have to carry the posts, tools and barb wire the rest of the way.

Productive day, took the trailer load of scrap metal to town and sold it. Got $70 which was helpful. Next I picked up my generator, the service work was $139. Got a late lunch then waited at the tire service center for the truck to arrive with my new truck tires. $1100 and two hours later I was on my way home.

I tried to find a couple used tires for my trailer, no luck. The old tires have dry rot cracks, need better in case I need to pick up a ton of fertilizer or anything heavy. I’ll try to find some on my next trip to the big town. (couldn't use 2 of the old tires from my truck, wrong rim size)

Tested the generator when I got home, ran fine for 20min then I shut it off. Good to go, now I can take my time and fix my old generator. 2 is 1, 1 is none.

A classmate from highschool runs the small engine shop now. So happens, he married one of my distant cousins. She stopped by and brought him lunch. I didn’t recognize her. Been at least 40years since I’d seen her. Anyway, it was nice to talk to her.

Got a good bit done on the coop today. Hoping to have it finished by tomorrow evening so I can get the chicks moved over. Work on finishing the run this weekend if the the weather holds. May meet with a couples gals from work this weekend for margaritas. I've been told by multiple people that I'm spending too much time alone with my grief  like dang it's barely been 3 weeks

Survived the picnic and visit with little granddaughter's mom and the boyfriend. They've been homeless pretty much all their adult lives, so conversation is always pretty weird, and sometimes non existant, which is also weird. Came home and tackled all the chickens that had been chilling. So pieced them all out, and food savered them and got it all labelled and put in the freezer. Takeout tonight from the amish place, and it was good.

ABR, last time I was at TSC, I looked at the prices on some of those ready-made coops for sale in the parking lot, and those coops were HELLER EXPENSIVE! I'm talking $1500 and more for the higher end models... needless to say, if I ever raise chickens here, it'll be in a homemade coop and enclosure, that's for danged sure. 😒

P.S. However, I will shamelessly "borrow" design features from those fancy high-dollar coops, lol... ;)

We decided we would head out to South Dakota for a few days. We will leave early Thursday morning. Kind of a last minute decision but what the hell.
Are you going to the Black Hills? A common comment about driving through S.D. is that it is flat and boring. It isn't for me, but that might be because it's my home state.

Finished my Wednesday by going to visit my mom at the nursing home. My friend's family had so many flowers from Jack's memorial that they insisted I take a vase full of peonies and daisies to my mom. They thought that those pretty flowers would be better off brightening up my mom's room, instead of in a house of mourning. Mom thought they were beautiful.

Then I got a message from my friends inviting me over to their house. I picked up a 6 pack of some strong IPA beer and a 6 pack of Corona and headed over with the beers on ice. They already had a bottle of Balvenie opened up when I got there. We sat out on the patio until 11pm, telling stories and sharing memories. There were tears flowing, but a lot of laughs too. The healing process has begun.

To those of you who may be struggling, reach out. Do it now. Jack left four adult children and a wife without any warning and no explanation. The only thing they can know for sure is that he was found slumped over in the front seat of his Gator, with a pistol in his hand and a bullet in his head. Don't leave your loved ones this way. Whatever is happening, can be overcome...
That is a tough thing to do to family. His death alone is one thing, but to take your own life adds to the pain and sorrow. We all have our demons.

It appears that Jack's demons have come to light. One of the daughters just told me he had started antidepressants about 3 weeks before he died. Apparently he was one of the people who have bad reactions to antidepressants and he turned that inward and took his own life.

They are very expensive, small and cheaply made. I'm building mine using a lot of scrap materials and such. Some new wood, wire and hardware is mostly it cost wise. Few hundred dollars.

@Spikedriver that's so sad. I lost a HS friend a couple years back from the same circumstances. I feel like any meds that could cause suicidal ideation should come with mandatory mental health check ups as well...

I think it's good that people are willing to talk about it now, and to share how much it hurts the survivors. I also think it was harder for people to heal from their loss when it was kept hush-hush and was taboo to talk about :(

I got to try the new diesel out on these straight flat roads ran 90 to 100 all the way across the state!
I don't blame anyone for that. Just a warning, you don't want to speed on a reservation. If you stick to the interstate cross state, you won't go on any. The tickets will cause you to choke. In 1970 someone I know got a ticket for around $250 and he wasn't going that much over the limit. When I go home I drive through Rosebud, Lower Brule and Crow Creek reservations. It is the one place I am very careful about my speed.

I will use caution and a good radar detector! 😉

Today is a packed day for me as I need to ensure my daughter reaches her state testing on time. It's the final day of her exams, and we'll be taking the freeway since it's the closest route to our destination. Once the test is done, I'm eager to head back to my farm and tend to my animals. Returning home is always a great relief.

I disagree. When I went to the Rapid City and Mount Rushmore area I thought it was all beautiful and I even had the thought of moving there. My ex, not so much, but she is my ex so take that with a grain of salt. I hope to revisit the area in the next year or two.

I completely agree but with what I saw in my many years as a Police Officer I learned one thing. If I am ever given the grim news about poor health and the end is near, when that time becomes obvious it will be on a very cold mountain top and a bottle or two of some darn good Bourbon. Go to sleep happy, the next morning very cold and pain free. I understand the result, but I have told my family and friends that is the choice I will make. I have seen the aftermath of many other methods and although the end is the same the method of getting there is very different. I know it is difficult for the friends, family, and loved ones but everyone needs to consider the issues of the primary person involved.
That being said, we have all seen and heard and read the "awareness" of the situation. Well, in my opinion for someone in such a position the daily or hourly reminders are not an offer to help, they are a reminder of what will end the "problem". Does that sound harsh? Imagine you have a toothache. It hurts to eat, it hurts to drink, it hurts to smile. You have two options, go see (talk) to someone about the problem or pull the tooth. In my mind these commercials are a daily reminder of the "option" to solve the problem.
Sorry if it sounds harsh, but after "finding" so many people who go out the "hard" way I recall a detective/partner who once said a Doctor at some certain point should make sure a patient knows that the pain "meds" should be taking as prescribed and if too many are taken at one time it could be fatal. Think about that for a moment. A few extra of these or a "mess" for someone else to find. I have seen the "mess". So have far too many family members and loved ones. I am in favor of the relaxed final moments. I apologize if I seem harsh or uncaring but if (whoever) went camping and passed in their sleep it will be much better for everyone else in the long run.
Keep in mind, my sympathy to any and all. I do care, I just know what I have experienced.

Today I plan to go to the local family greenhouse and find a flat of annuals for the hanging baskets. After 3 pm, the local brewery for a couple of crowlers for the weekend. New hose for the front yard, the old one gets reused for the rain collection barrel to water the front tomatos and peppers
