Got some feed in town today, and they're doing a Tuesday Senior Discount 10%, so that's good to know. I qualify! Went into Walmart for a few things, and watched some very grumbly people as they looked at the egg section. Or lack of eggs. Glad I don't have to buy eggs. None to be found. Luckily there were three containers of cottage cheese that husband wanted, I only needed one. Bread was cleared out, too. Went and filled a cart at Aldi. That little two buck bottle of olive oil is $4.49. A container of oats is nearly $4 now. Wow.
Olive oil around the same price here, depending on the quality. Though a decent type of oats, 1.5kg pack can be got for 99cents. Up to 3.50 for homegrown / organic.

Today is back to routine, everyone fed and bedded. Have a meeting now, then going to stock up the wood baskets and empty the washing machine barrel as I've a few washes done. Then prepping for a workshop I'm teaching tomorrow. Also doing a little price reccy on the various supermarkets to see if there are any sales I can stock up on.

Well..I dont see any water gushing from anywhere but if its frozen I guess I wouldn't see any water untill it thaws?
Correct, ease on over to the water meter and turn it off
If it is piped with cpvc and freezes. The pipe is most likely split
Repipe with pec Apollo and insulate in
The weak link on pex is the fitting

Turn the valve on the water heater off
Then station a person in view of the piping
Turn the meter on
The observer takes note of the location of the leaks and yells back the the water meter to turn it off
This helps keep your work area les messy
Fix the cold side leaks then open the valve on the water heater and fix them

Dawn and I are spending the day with chills, a bit of a headache and general tiredness. Not surprising; we spent an hour a two at Wally World yesterday, got some groceries and we each got a Shingles vaccine and the latest Covid booster.

This is the first time we got the Shingles booster. I know a couple of folks with intermittent shingles and is pretty painful. We're in the high-risk factor because we both had chicken pox as kids. I figure the one-day crappy period is worth it. Same for the Covid; we both had it back in 2020 and had a couple of family members die from it. I think the medical system here in the US sucks, given that it's controlled by the insurance companies; I'd much rather see a single-payer system like they have in the rest of the world ...

...but it is what it is.
I would very much also like a single payer system. It works much better, but in the US coorperations control the government ( including big pharma) and want to keep making money so it won't happen

Disagree with you on the vaccine , I now know 3 people personally that got very damaged by it , and still don't know anyone that has died from covid , so good luck, hope it doesn't have any worse side effects than what you have now.

still close to zero outside ( I haven't actually looked at the thermometer yet today but weather forecast says it's 8 degrees)

we have the livingroom stove on last night, to see if it can stay on overnight ( like the kitchen one) , nope! Freezing cold in the house. The poor dogs probably got cold. Otto hasn't had anything to eat yet, but I am cooking some rice right now for him

animals are going out, supposed to warm up to close to freezing today, water everywhere but house still frozen. I wonder if the neighbors have any problems with the water. We haven't talked to anyone or gone anywhere
Son has to go to school today but some of the ice on the road seems to have evaporated. Its too cold for it have melted

German Shepherds have notoriously bad bellys!! They have pancreatic issues and many are diabetic. I feed Bear like a diabetic and he gets a probiotic with enzymes daily! He gets Tractor Supply's 4Health Puppy food, low fat high fiber (pancreas and diabetic friendly,) and only Milk Bone treats, no people food! It works!
my previous one had food allergies, had to feed her grain free dog food . She was super allergic to rice.
This one so far seems to have been ok. I think maybe they ate something bad, the other dog ( the indestructible mutt ) is not eating at all either, so maybe he is sick too.
I rotate dog foods so they are not exposed to the same bad stuff all the time. They also get whatever meat we don't eat , chicken feet, necks, livers from all the animals , kidneys, hearts etc, and leftovers ,unless it is something they really shouldnt have like spicy stuff. If it is spicy meat, I rinse it off first

Wanted to expand on the single payer answer I gave

The VA is a single payer system and it is so messed up it is not funny. The VA is proof the government can not run
The job of the Federal Government is to
regulate interstate and foreign commerce, declare war and set taxing, spending and other national policies. Insurance or health care is not the responsibility of the government. That is the job of individual citizens

Sorry for worrying everyone during my absence. The holidays and packing/purging for a move have me busy.

We are still planning to leave California in the next few months. Since work in construction slows down in most states during the winter we had to wait for some of the firms K is talking to to get back in gear. Not use to that at all. The only time K every had a slow down in work (outside of the whole vid lockdowns) was when we first got married and it rained. Almost 20 years ago and they would shut a job down if it rain for 15 minutes. Now they give the manpower rain gear and tell them to get back to work.

I started to decrease our herd after Christmas. I sold a buck to a lady that bought a few does from me at the beginning of summer last year. I was hoping I'd have kits this winter but none of the does I bred took so I figured they don't like the buck. None of the girls lifted so it was time for him to move on. Then rabbit math reared its head and I bought 2 pedigreed juniors from a well known local breeder to fill the empty cage. Yeah. I got a new buck and a new doe. So instead of 5 breeders I have 6 now. My excuse is I am moving towards pedigreed animals so I can sell kits to 4H kids after we move. I will still keep my crosses as they throw big babies but having a few lines of pedigreed animals means more money from the sales.

Trying to get K to help with the packing and purging. It is hard when he says "I need you to tell me what to do with this stuff". I think he can start with his shop and tools. He never wants to touch that stuff. I know we are going to end up moving crap he could have tossed or has no need for. If I had my way it would all go in the trash like he does to my crafting/sewing stuff when we move.

I hope your escape from Kommiefornia is successful.
When you get to Texas, tell them that you always wanted to have a gun but were not able to, and they will issue you one.
Totally different world there.

good luck with the move, moving is hard. I was very stressed out and physically and mentally exhausted when we moved here from Florida ( but we had time limits, sold our house in a few days and had to get out in a few weeks)

was thinking about a mini van for carrying supplies, camping, room for the dog, and travel.
Please let me know what you end up with. That's what I want with low mileage. We will see.

We had pancreatic issues with 3 out of 4 shnauzers. No people food, but problems anyway. We use 4Health food for all of our dogs now and it sure is getting expensive. I will check out Milk Bone treats when I get back to the store.
So I guess I will repipe the water lines
We have someone doing an estimate today to re-pipe under house with pex pipe.
Repipe with pec Apollo and insulate in
The weak link on pex is the fitting
I will ask plumber about pec Apollo. Thanks!

Walked first, this morning.
Have laundry going.
Will put some stuff away in pantry and finish undecorating front porch.

Thank you so much for using the "Quote" button instead of making 4 separate reply posts! :huggs:
It makes the thread much much easier to read😀.

I dont know that I have a water meter? I might , I'm on a well n all that is in a underground vault.
One of my projects last year was to construct a a protected access to the well vault. The guy I asked to do it got a big construction job and everyone else was busy.
I just might do it myself this year..construction or plumbing isnt my forte..but...
I havent lost water pressure or hear any running water when it's all off, so unless I find the pump running all the time I'm going to guess I got lucky this time.

Milk Bone dry, unflavored biscuits. Anything soft or colorful has crap and sugar in them . Carrots and bananas make great treats, for dogs, humans, and donkeys!!

How cute!!!

Mine are a little to big for a pocket. They turned 4 months old this past Saturday. Today they are going to the vets for a check up. Checking for worms and then deworm, and baby boosters. They had their first shots before I got them and they were neutered too.
