Ours have a garage and they go in and out. And we also put out dry food. You pretty much have to feed it something, but they will take care of your mice problem. They have free reign where ever, just not in the house
See? That's the problem. Then it'll need a poop box, water and food. My wife is a crazy animal lover and eventually the dang thing would end up in the house.

All the menfolk left to get haircuts so it’s really quite for a bit. I’m watching an episode of The Way I Heard It with Mike Rowe. I’ve had sinus pain on one side of my head since last weekend, I’m hoping it finally goes away, my teeth don’t hurt now but still pretty tender in the cheek and around my eye. Lots of water and tea. One of the cats is sleeping in the recliner next to me and is growling in his sleep. Must be chasing squirrels in his sleep.

The wife is off selling jewelry (her hobby is making it) so my SF & I are batching it today. My only goal was to feed everybody & do a little work in my new garden. Everybody has had lunch & I gave Badger his meds (our oldest dachshund & he will have a tooth extraction coming up) Then I used my leaf grinder to add cut up leaves to my new 3 planters (6ftx3ftx2ft). I put the grinder in the planters to save time & trouble & really made a muscle in my left arm mad (old age is a pain!). Of course I also had to work the leaves in so that made it worse. I also did an Amazon order for a sun shade to cover all of the new planters. My wife suggested a winter crop but I passed because I'm too old to push stuff that hard. Now I'm taking it easy & it's a coin toss, to not have beer & go get pizza for dinner or to have a few & have it delivered? Time will tell which way I go on that question.

Got through the work week without much drama..
Weather went from cold n snow to warmish n rain..lots of rain n wind last night..nice to fall asleep to.

Today I slept in good..got everyone feed n fresh water..

Got the dog food made
....Got my future lunches going in the crockpot..
Next week will be thick n creamy onion mushroom sauce over seasoned chili lime chickie thighs topped with gooey melted cheeze served over chewy harty egg noodles.

I need to get dressed in warm attire so I can go take the pups on a nice walk in town.
...my road is a huge muddy mess..

..then I go into the tire shop to get my brakes done on subie.

After I will return home to the redneck tin can I call home, get my trusty warm stovie fired up and enjoy a night of potential thunderstorms , possibly watch a YouTube documentary of some kind or perhaps I will write something.

I wish I could have had low drama week at work. Two days in a row visits from district and regional folks. Then Thursday and Friday technician drama (different tech each day). Super busy also with filling scripts and vaccines. Typical week before a holiday except low budget for hours. 🤬

Got laundry done this morning. Took dad to the grocery with me but he wanted to wait in the car. Then to the nursery to order the grave blankets—1 cross, 3 med blankets and 3 large. I’ve got too many dead to look after.

Heading next door to Dad’s in a few. He wants to have a fire in the wood stove (first of the season) and won’t light when he’s alone.

Nope. They poop outside, no poop box. Cats cover it up. Our pup's mission is to find it and eat it. They go into the garage and the 2 barns and the milkhouse on their own. I do put out buckets of water here and there outside for guineas, cats, dog. I put cat dry food in the garage. They've got some cat beds in the garage for when it's cold. They don't come inside, you'd have to put your foot down. Pup comes in though.

Grave blanket s? Did I miss something?

A warm fire is soothing..sounds like you could use one too??

Yeah I could definitely use some soothing.

The grave blankets are decorated pine boughs in the shape of a blanket. I think it’s a northeast thing—decorating the graves for the winter season because flowers won’t survive. The cross goes on my great grandmother, the small blankets on one of dad’s cousins, the other two on the husband and parents of one of my cousins and the large blankets on my grandparents, mother and brother. Like I said, I’ve got too many dead.

Today's project besides regular chores.

I cranked on the floor jack yesterday. I didn't try to completely close up the crack due to concern I could damage the roof.
Found another hack that pretended to support the stairs. Fixing that will be another project.

I can't really fault the people that survived the great depression. If they save a penny they did.

The house recently turned 100 years old. It requires some TLC.

House is spic and span. Food is cooked or cooking. Just waiting the houseguests. Maybe another 30 min.
Had a loud knock at the door a few minutes ago, and thought, no way...too early.
Our neighbor was taking a walk and saw mail in our mail box and walked it up to us. She's sweet like that. Long driveway, so extra steps for her.

got up really early, loaded animals, notice the big buck had no ear tag, so husband gave him one inside the trailer, that was scary
Got everyone loaded up , took care of the rest of them, drove to line up for the auction truck. I am always sad to see them go. They look scared and not happy being loaded and unloaded but it had to be done. There were a lot of people dropping off animals, mostly lambs but some goats too. We probably had the most goats. I hope they get decent prices. Looked at last weeks auction report and they were all over the place, so we'll see. Generally less money for animals in the fall because people want them gone before winter, but it is holiday season coming up. We'll see. I hope we get the checks in the mail ok, last time one of ours went to the neighbors ( we got it a week later)

then went to get propane refills, and did shopping. Filled a cart at walmart. It was not too bad, not really that many people there, no line at the cashier

then had junk for lunch, cleaned the barn, put the animals back in ( weather still very windy and cold)
We are now down to around 40 animals. Still a lot to feed over winter but this is the minimum we will need to keep for breeding and butchering, plus a few spares

busy day , made up for yesterday

The other dogs are fine. Hubby was playing fetch with all four day before yesterday. Yesterday morning, Dax was whining and didn't play or take a treat. He was dead a few hours later. Didn't make it to the vet appointment. Possibly a brain annyerism.
I am sorry you lost your friend , but at least he didn't suffer

Just got back from picking up the wife's Jeep. All the creeks and rivers are running high and muddy. Prior to this rain the creeks were really low from the dry summer. Now they are bank to bank. It even looked like our pond is full. I'm not sure how much rain we got in the past few days, but it must have been a few inches, plus it melted a foot of snow at our place. Several places our road is already starting to wash out. Where's FEMA?

We had a warm day today. So we drained, cleaned and refilled the hot tub. Should have done this earlier in the season but we just never got around to it. We are getting to the point where the weather is going to be too cold for the rest of winter so today being so nice outside was a blessing.

We used our new "Wayne Water Bug" to drain the tub, and that was pretty quick. It's great because you don't have to prime these pumps - just drop them right in the water. I think they need 1/4" or so of water to prime, but after that they supposedly suck things down to 1/16". We got this pump for flooding in our sons basement which sometimes happens if we have very heavy and very long lasting rain. It's been sitting in it's box since we bought it and this is the first time we used it. I'm happy with it. It has two outlets (top and side) and you choose which one is best for whatever you are draining. Obviously top outlet for hot tubs.

I will be smelling like vinegar for a while I think. We use white vinegar diluted 50/50 for cleaning the hot tub and covers. Your hands get kind of marinated in the stuff as you're scrubbing everything down. We got the tub refilled and now the pumps and heaters are working overtime to get it heated back up to temp. It was a miracle today - usually at least one of the pumps gets air locked after the tub is drained and we have to take the side cover off the enclosure, weasel our way into the pumps, and open the bleed valve on at least one of them. But not this time! The pumps sprang to life fully primed when we re-powered the tub. Yea!

My wife is the chemist for the tub and she'll do all the buffering, pH adjusting and shocking later tonight or tomorrow.

Takes us about 4-1/2 hours to complete this hot tub maintenance. Longer than it would take on most tubs because ours has removeable/swappable jet pack panels for each seat and we take all those out too and they are a bit more difficult to clean.

@Mountain trapper you need to make a boot box to keep your boots in outside the door. As cold as it gets there and other wildlife you have, would a cat survive? Hey a Norwegian Forest Cat or Maine Coon Cat might work.

@ClemKadiddlehopper sorry about Dax. I just about cry when forum peeps lose a pet. I know they are part of our tribe.

@Magpie @Ekatarina @elkhound @Peanut and who all is getting sick…I guess I started it. I had l lysine but what was left had expired more than a year ago.
@Bacpacker glad you’re able to work closely with the staff there at rehab on your heart.

A boot box is a good idea. We each have like 3 pairs of shoes/boots each. I'm not a big fan of cats, but do kinda like the Maine c o o n cat. So now c.o.o.n is a bad word? This censorship is ridiculous.

Took it easy today, finished the cleanup from the stair building phase, went slow, stopped often. Then I started the wiring phase of the home repairs. I opened the ceiling up, traced all the light and outlet wiring circuits that need changes. Then drew it out on paper deciding how best to reach my goals. Watched several youtub videos, it’s been a few years since I did major wiring, needed a refresher course. Now have a good plan for going forward.

Nothing but tv tonight, couple ballgames I want to see.

All that snow behind me is melted into one big lake..Stacker Lake I call it..soon... Stacker Ice Slide n Show..
Forklifts , ice lakes = slides plus.. frozen stick racks on frozen forkie forks make for interesting winter entertainment here at Lake Stacker.
I shall keep score of all rack dumps but bonus points if they can loose a rack n it still dump sticks n land it in the hopper..

These random censored words are killing me. Especially when posted by forum members who would never post anything off-color. You can make anything sound bad when you add ******* before it!
Y is mainecoon censored? It's a kitty breed..? Who does the censoring? I can see if part of word is used inappropriately ..but a kitty kitty?

Woke up, had a nice snuggle with the lady, got out of bed, made some coffee, turned on some 70's yacht rock, climbed into the big chair, grabbed my laptop, read my email, checked the weather and arrived at the forum. Eventually I have to get cleaned up because we are going to go see pops for an early turkey day meal and so he can meet the girl. I am hoping for a 3-4 hour turn around on that adventure, with travel, but I am betting the lady will drag it out with pleasantries and niceness.
You must not be Portuguese or Italian. It takes our family that long to eat.

Amish Heart got censored talking about house cleaning. That's way out of line. I am going to clean my house spic and span as well.
