I caught my husbands chest cold  And my head feels funny like I already took cold medicine and have medicine head :dunno:
I added extra vit D and zinc when the hubby got sick but I must've waited a bit too long
I was up early and had coffee and went right back to bed again.
Chest felt very slightly burning when I breathed in, now I have a cough so I'll take and expectorant.
He's feeling much better now so thats something
Gotta figure out something for supper
Probably not gonna do much today
It's nice to see you again.

Just came in from working outside all day. I'm frozen clear through, but got a lot done on the new building. The wife went to town to get her hair "done". We're planning on going grocery shopping tomorrow so I'll need to dig the small trailer out of the snow in the morning. They're calling for snow on Friday and Saturday and colder temps.
I could send you some of my Fire engine #9 pickles.
Those will warm you right up.
@Lady Locust's husband would like them too.
Those babies are hot going in and coming out.
I love a little spice in my life..... Okay, I love a lot of spice in my life.

I love anything hot, except horseradish. I make some hot pickles too. Actually all I do is add dried ground peppers (habanaro, ghost, Carolina reapers, etc) to a jar of dill pickles.

My Irishman cooked yesterday.
It was interesting to say the least.
I have to clean the kitchen in a bit.
Now I will have to see if I can salvage what he cooked yesterday.
Probably.
But it might take a bit of thinking.
Got to give him an A for effort.
It's still cold here.
31* but feels like 19*.
Just brisk weather.
When I got up this morning it was 4*.
Started planning out Christmas 2025.
With so many grandchildren I have to start in January.

I started the morning doing KP as usual. Ate breakfast, and made a Hot Chocolate Poke Cake for the get together Saturday. Tried to clean the driveway a little better, but it was too cold. Made some progress, but everything is really frozen. Hoping the sun will soften things a little bit later in the afternoon when I will try again.

The building is coming along pretty good. The back wall is finished and the west wall should be finished today, if I don't run out of screws. I tried using nails but with frozen wood the nails bend easily or they split the wood.

I passed my 'hire in' test. :)

It's was for the mechanics job I posted about yesterday. Was a long two hour test, at least that was the time limit and the HR lady seemed surprised I finished early. Some of the terminology was foreign to me, had to take some guess. So, I guess 81% ain't too bad. 70% required.

Test was all multiple choice and some of the obviously wrong answers showed that the writer of the test has a good sense of humor. The people in the office building seemed upbeat and happy. That's always nice to see and a good indication of the working atmosphere.

I got a "Congratulations" email from the HR lady and said a member of the hire in team will be contacting me about the next step. I replied to say that brought a smile to my face and thanks for the good news.

Good luck on the new job. Back in my past life I managed quite a large heavy equipment fleet, maintained by a good group of mechanics. Before that I worked as a heavy equipment mechanic/welder.

Ben and Pearl....yep, the post office was closed. Oh well. And it's been closed all week because of the roads out here. Ha. I checked our PO Box anyway, but it was empty. We stopped there, then to the meat place to get some good cheese and bierrocks. Bought big blocks of natural swiss, some marble, and butter cheese (Troyer brand, the best). Then we went to the discount grocery, ran into a cousin of mine. She said it was her first time out this week. Pretty cold to be out driving a tractor, but she has a windshield at least. The enclosed cabs are usually not for the amish. The grocery had good prices on olive oil. Bought lots of that, pasta sauces, and honey. It was challenging getting husband out to the truck with the scooter because of the snow and the cleared turn around, but more challenging getting him back in the house after we got home. But worth it. Even though it was a slow 4 wheel drive in to town, and he stayed in the truck, it brightened his day. He is messing with the Oupes unit, the mega one. Mega two is on it's way. He is testing everything for limits on it. Had me run a drip coffee pot on it. Ran his nebulizer on it. It is snowing again and the temp is dropping again.

I've been in welding and fabrication for a good portion of my career(s). I never really persuaded careers as a mechanic but some jobs have kinda fell into my lap. I have no formal mechanics training and no certificates. (Edit: The job I applied for is for maintenance of a vehicle fleet where certifications are not necessary. I applied for the job out of necessity for maintaining unemployment benefits. And then said "Hmmm, I might like the job")

One of my favorite jobs was being the only on-site heavy equipment mechanic for what was actually a large operation, but still had only 7-8 pieces of heavy equipment. Pay was great with lots of overtime, was 45 minutes away.... I didn't have a life. Now I figure it was a blessing that new management came in, messed up my ability to preform the job effectively, pissed me off and I quit.

So I got absolutely NOTHING accomplished today ( well other than animal care , cooking, dishes, feeding stoves)
Husband took the battery out of the truck and is trying to charge it now. If it works, we will drive to town tomorrow to buy a new battery and get some more supplies. I hate being out of bananas , and we are almost out of milk
Plus going to the feed store we didn't get to last week
I hope the battery charges and the truck starts. If not we will have to wait until the ice and snow melt to drive the Traverse or Yukon down the road, neither are 4wd. We are supposed to get more snow starting tomorrow afternoon, so we will have to leave early and try to get back in time. I hate the thought of the truck not starting in town and we are stuck there . Not sure what we would do. I hate this weather ....

I think the post office was closed today. Something about Jimmy Carter. Anything for a day off, with pay I'm sure.

I got Gracie (my Voyager)back! Fuel line was disconnected, fixed and no charge. Went ahead and got an extended warranty. I feel better about driving now.
My car (Pontiac Sunfire) had a bad purge valve. It would make pressure in the tank and blow the fuel line! If it does it again make sure they check that! Glad you got it back and it's nothing serious!!

Glad you got your husband out for a drive, not nice being stuck in the house!! Sometimes the littlest things make a huge difference!!

Yep, put him in a better mood, and he has a heart doc appt tomorrow, so it was good practice with all the snow clearing to try to get him in the truck and back in the house. But we'll see about the appt tomorrow, it's snowing hard now. And not near above freezing. Good we went out when we did. He says for sure he's going to that appt because he needs to. They just might call and cancel if the snow keeps up. Little granddaughter says the same about school tomorrow....we'll see.

If you have more than one car you have a battery doner... First try charging the truck battery or if you are pulling it out of the vehicle bring it in someplace warm and charge it.....temperature really reduces a batteries output when they get cold.
If the battery doesn't charge enough to start the truck maybe one of the other rigs batteries will fit in it .. otherwise I sometimes take a set of jumper cables and a spare battery along.
If you go to a shop to get a new battery make sure they check that the alternator is charging the battery..

Not a lot done today, got up anticipating taking the teenager in to testify for a friends court case but it was cancelled....
Had coffee with a lineman who has worked in california before to fix power lines after fires...he is waiting for a call. He can make 90 hours a week down there with perks..Or work in montana in the cold and wind on high power lines and hope to get maybe full time.
Doctor appointment for the wife which was kinda scary with patchy ice around but it went well and then on the way to a health food store we stopped at a large second hand store that does a lot of good work with and for people....the store made a good place to get some walking in while pushing a shopping cart.

Still sitting here stunned about Bacpacker. Thanks to whoever mentioned it in this thread - zannej, I think - so I went looking for the thread. Didn't show up in my feed. Oh my. You just never know.

Thought I was getting better so I went ahead and did my fieldwork appointments today. Cold, but plenty of sunshine so a good day to use, hard to reschedule when winter weather might move in. Got through the first stop ok, but was feeling worse on the way to the second, and by the time I finished the third I had lost my voice and felt like ten miles of rough road. Thankfully it was all guys that I've worked with for years and they were cool about it. And the work is done.

Feeling a little better after getting home and getting something to eat, but my throat is bad. I can tell it's going to be one of those sleepless nights. Thankfully I don't have to go anywhere tomorrow.

Trapper that looks like a very sturdy shed.
Congrats, Old School! A new start.
Amish I hope all goes well at the heart doc tomorrow, and that you get there and back safely.

My mom passed away last week. She lived with me so I'm getting her clothes together for people who can use them. She has some with the tags still on.
I found some cool leather jackets I have never seen her wear.
She was one month away from 92 years
Thanks everyone for your kind words. I guess we are never actually prepared.

Why, why, why is it that when I plan on doing nothing, laying around, watching a movie or 2 & taking a nap it all goes to hell? Does this happy to everyone? That was my plan today. Tomorrow is garbage day so after I did all the morning stuff I do & had to take out the garbage. One rolling can & 6 regular garbage cans full of limbs. Oh & it was cold & raining (of course). Then I got to thinking about the five storage containers in the back yard full of limbs that I picked up the other day &....Those had to go out too (After I picked up 30 or so more limbs & broke them down to fit.) On the next to the last one I happened to look on the other side of the fence & there were more limbs between the fence & the road. How the hell did they end up out there???? So I had one small garbage can left & I went out & cut limbs in the rain until it was heavy enough, I didn't want to kill our garbage man. I came in & got a beer & tried to finish a movie that I've started & stopped like 5 times over 3 days. Dachshunds HATE it if your trying to do anything that doesn't involve them so I gave up. Then when I started to get cold it hit me that I was WET. Hot shower & uh wet clothes? They were dirty & wet & well I might as well wash all the clothes while I was at it. And the nap? I laid in bed for 30 minutes earlier & couldn't fall asleep.

@Mountain trapper I don't remember you mentioning an end result about your wife's eye difficulties she had. Hope that is okay now.
Congratulations @OldSchool sounds like things are looking up!
She's still having some problems but not as bad as before. She's going to call and make an appointment with the eye doctor tomorrow. Thanks for asking.

Snow is still coming down, and school just got cancelled for little granddaughter tomorrow. We'll have to see about husband's appt. tomorrow, usually they like to take off on Fridays, so they might be closed because of the snow.
