Tonight I tried out my new cookware, or more like used. An enameled cast iron grill pan. $12 from craigslist seller. Couldn't go wrong, right? I researched it first, they don't get a lot of love. Should have put more stock in the comments from seasoned cooks.
I 'tried' grilling some bratwursts, but they weren't cooking well. Got nice grill lines from the peaks on the frying pan but weren't cooking through. So.... why not slice 'em? What a mess. Turned into mashed-up meat stuck together with pieces of the brat skin. Still not giving up.... as the dog is giving me a WTF look.... the mash grilled ok, but then I starting finding little pieces burnt meat in the valleys between the ridges. I figure I'll live it. Got out my meat thermometer, because I am a professional. Stuck the point into a morsel of meat. Needle starts raising, almost getting to where the numbers start. Piled up some meat for a better reading, temp rises a bit more. I'm getting somewhere! But what am I gonna do with this mash? Add scrambled eggs. That'll be good! Mixed it all together, stuck the meat thermometer in it for a reading of 170... it's chow time!
Anyone want a nice enameled cast iron grill pan?
It's gonna take some time to get over this one.
