I seem to have lost a day somehow. Forgot to take my meds for almost a week so my thyroid got low again & I slept. I thought today was Monday & then realized it was Tuesday.
My brother went to the doctor for a checkup and found he's back up over 300lbs again. He found out his restaurant is not being closed but it is being relocated in the casino so they need to renovate before he can go back to work. He's been doing about nothing but stuffing his face & playing on the computer. I finally got him to take out some trash.
The most he would do when he was supposed to take the trash out was pull the bags out of one bin in the kitchen & throw it in the front room. He finally started emptying other bags & I brought out the bag from the bathroom. He's supposed to take them all outside to the burn pile (since we don't get trash pickup). But he hadn't taken them out in over 6 months & kept making excuses about why he shouldn't. I finally got him to help me take them out. I hauled one bag to the burn pile the other day but it was so damn hot I nearly keeled over.
Today I hauled bags to the door, opened the door, felt the heat and realized I could not go outside in that heat.
So I put the bags just outside the door for my brother to take the rest of the way to the pile out in the yard.
He kept trying to lecture me about how I "need to push through the discomfort".
That's what I'm going to quote back at him next time he whines about something. I mean, I was helping him do what is basically his job & he wanted me to do more of it. To his credit, he did last longer at it than I'd expected. Normally when I have him help me with something he only helps for 2 minutes & then gives up. There were the bags, used HVAC filters, & a bunch of empty amazon boxes. Once we got the bags out, he decided he was done and wasn't going to take the boxes. I reminded him they needed to go too & my back was already giving me trouble. There had also been a bunch of stuff that spilled so I was sweeping it up and bagging it up. I filled about 3 contractor bags with spilled trash. On the 2nd bag he was holding it open for me and actually helping until he smelled the mess from the mice (they made a nest in a box and their crud spilled out of the box when I was picking it up) he dropped the bag & said he was done. Said I could let him know when I had the rest of the trash picked up and put outside for him to take to the burn pile. I stopped myself from telling him to push through the discomfort.
Trying to prep the front room to bring in the new kittens but need to get it cleaned up. Will need to vacuum later. Wish I had a cheap disposable vacuum to use bc I don't want to stink up the regular vacuum.
I also cleaned litterboxes & put in fresh litter. Caught one of the cats trying to pee near Mom's door & set her near the fresh litterbox so she went in the box instead. My fault for not cleaning it sooner.
Trying to figure out what to feed Mom now because she's hungry but she can't decide what she wants to eat & I'm not up to cooking anything fancy.

Walked this morning, fed dogs. We went to thrift stores about 35 miles away for a change and stopped at the salvage grocery on the way back. Salvage grocery looked like it was going out of business, there was so little product.

Came home and made Carrot Cake Jam with carrots and pears that were gifted to me, then went out and harvested. What else should I do with squash? Yikes!
Anyway, did a Bible Study (we do one a day for 5 days and meet once a week). Going to bed shortly, just tired.

I cleaned up in the kitchen & changed the HVAC filters. I need to clean the grille for the filter that goes in my brother's room (we have two intakes for the AC that take 20"x20" filters- 1 in the hallway & 1 in my brother's room). He won't clean it so I'll have to do it. He keeps complaining about how awful the house is but has zero self-awareness that maybe if he actually cleaned up after himself and helped take care of things it wouldn't be bad. His solution is to move out but he can't afford to do that. If he moved out he wouldn't just have rent- he'd have to pay for his utilities, food, internet, etc. He doesn't even make enough for rent much less the other expenses.

I also decided to turn off two of the ceiling fans that I realized were spinning the wrong way. Once they stopped I flipped the switch to make them spin the correct way.

I'm relaxing and window shopping now (literally shopping for windows- replacement vinyl ones). Told my friend he can have the old windows. They are metal & not energy efficient, but he has wooden ones that are rotting. As soon as I mentioned it, my friend said he could replace his kitchen window.

Snappy, carrot cake jam sounds delicious. Depends on the type of squash. We used to bake butternut squash and mix it with butter & it was sort of like sweet potatoes. Other types of squash can be baked too I suppose. I want to know how Outback cooks their veggies because they have very good ones. I normally don't like squash that much, but they have the cooking & seasoning just right. Plus I love their bread. Steak is only so so though. Wish I could get veggies & bread from Outback & steak & bread from Texas Roadhouse (well, I *could* if I wanted, but it's not cheap).

I've been mowing and cleaning fallen limbs preparing for in-laws two night visit. (my wife's sister and her new husband). They are nice people, but the sis is very bossy......to everyone except me. I don't put up with it in a mild-mannered Clark Kent sorta way. We are planning on catfish stew tonight and hamburgers on the grill tomorrow nite. Should be fun.

I will make some zucchini bread and freeze it, but that's the problem, no freezer space. Wondering what else (besides pickles and relish) to can zucchini and yellow squash. That is how I have to preserve most all from the garden. And the carrot cake jam turned out great.

Carrot cake jam turned out good, but... I haven't made any jam or jelly in a long time and I put the sugar in first, then had to mix the pectin with cold water and heat it separately, then add it to jam.

Did long video this morning because of rain, no walk. Got big pork roast in slow cooker for carnitas, Have third load of laundry in washer, Getting ready to sweep house, since rugs are being washed. Have 5th Bible study to do so I am ready for Church tonight. Also need to write about 3 eBay drafts today.

But really, any ideas??? (besides pickles and relish) to can zucchini and yellow squash. That is how I have to preserve most all from the garden.

Yardwork, yesterday and today. Found where a couple of broken wheelbarrows were hiding and put them out on the road for free. Not worth moving. Free stuff that went away this week: a tiki man statue, a sandbox, a tall wooden planter, and a broken dishwasher. Need to put out the grill that's not working right. Too hot for yardwork, now. Will be putzing in the garage.

Strawberry and I have walked several times today.
She walked with her new walker.
Rearranging Doctor's appointments.
The one for Monday is now a telephone call instead of office visit to VA.
The one for this Friday was a surprise, that I wasn't expecting.
Have to go next town over for blood work-fasting one at the VA Outpatient Clinic.
Have to be there at 0700 hours.
Will have to eat before I come home otherwise possible I might faint.
Strawberry and I will walk again in a bit.
Will have figure out something for supper.
At least it's cooler today, but windy.

Looking at pics of family at the beach.Nobody under 15 there and they are having a great time stormy weather or not.
Of course it stated clearing yesterday and they are all at the beach now.
Not sure what w will do today. Mostly just been visiting family online.

I've not done this so consider it a question as much as a suggestion~
If you clean it and cook it, could you can it like pumpkin? (Winter squash vs. summer squash) I've dehydrated zuke before but then just added it to soups etc. for a little extra in the soup.

I've already pc'd some summer squash like pumpkin. Seems like I have seen a recipe for pie filling like apple. I'm going to have to do research real soon!

Had a doc appt. this morning for thyroid refills and blood work. Then stopped at local grocery (everything was in stock), thrift shops and day old bread store. Home now and haven't found the ambition to do exercise video, but I will. Need to dust today and that may be it. Not much sleep again.
