Today was dry out day after last nights 3.5inches of rain. I had a mini-flood in my bedroom again. 3 area rugs got soaked, 3 more got extremely wet transporting the soaked rugs outside.

This morning I ran short of fans to speed the drying. I have several 8" industrial fans that were commonly used on catscans. I use alligator clips to jumper them to 110v power cords cut from old appliances. They run fine and move a lot of air.

Had a long talk with dad, came up with a plan to stop this flooding. When we built this house 47 years ago we laid perforated drain pipe outside the foundation in a gravel bed. Over time I believe this pipe has filled with sand and no longer drains water away from the foundation and back wall.

It'll cost about $8K to get someone in here with a track hoe, dig up and replace the old pipe, reseal the back wall and foundation. If we don't do this my house will continue to flood anytime we get more than 3 inches of rain. Believe me when I say I'm sick and tired of mopping water all night and drying rugs the next day.

Surgeon appointment went great, go back in 10 weeks.
Visit to RA doctor went great, wife got a months supply of her pills that she was getting in the trial clinic. Great.

Went to Texas Roadhouse for lunch , that went good.

Drove across town to car dealer, with intents of making a deal , bringing home the new one.

My luck ...sold yesterday.
Now I start over. Uuuggghhh.

Walmart grocery pickup tomorrow, then wife goes to primary care for constant cough and totally has no breath. She is ok sitting , doing nothing, but if she's up she's outta breath.

We shall see.

Y'all have the best evening you can. Especially The Meers

Worked from home today, and for the next several days. I'm hoping it runs over till after New Years.
Wife goes in for her infusion tomorrow morning and I get tested about the same time. She still feels bad, but no worse. She does seem really jittery, can't sit still for long, didn't sleep good last night either.

Husband had his infusion and he said it was easy. I brought him, came home for an hr or so and then picked him up. Watching movies, managed to make lunch and dinner and do clean up, 3 loads of laundry and am wiped. Pharmacist daughter called to check on us, and to make her speech that we should not see any people for Christmas, because we could get it again (ha) and because we could still be infectious (ha ha). Says the daughter who had 9 guests for Thanksgiving.
Did they give your wife steroids, Bacpacker? Why the jitter?

Still praying for @Amish Heart Heart and @Bacpacker ... ((((and everyone else on this thread who needs a lift.))))

@Peanut , seeing those pictures was like seeing the wrongiest deja vu ever! You must be fed-up-to-here!!! So sorry you are dealing with this AGAIN!!!

Found out that a friend on another forum (related to this one) passed away from cancer a few months ago. I'd wondered why he hadn't posted in awhile. :-(

My friend canceled his eye appointment bc my brother wouldn't wake up to drive and I couldn't take him and the baby to their appointments at the same time in different towns in different directions. He decided the baby's appointment was more important. Baby will be 4 months on the 20th. He's supposed to be 10lbs but weighs over 14lbs. Doctor said to cut back on his food and my friend said "Tell that to *him*! He wants to eat all the time!" I suspect the baby is supplementing food for affection bc he's not being held much. He spends 90% of his time in the baby swing. The doctor said he needs to be put in his crib and lie flat and needs to spend more time on his stomach (looks like you were right, Meerkat!)

My friend hasn't been holding him as much since he's been feeling weak and having blackouts and he's afraid he'll drop him or black out and fall on him. The fiance just doesn't like holding him much. She complains he's too heavy and also she's just not that interested in it. The teenage girl they have staying with them interacts with the baby more than the mother does. Albeit, the teenager (who just turned 19) already has a 1-yr old girl and is pregnant with a boy. She seems to have better maternal instincts. She's been cleaning and helping out and is very sweet. She's been trying to get their baby to crawl.

I keep hoping my friend can switch his Medicaid plan so he can get to a neurologist before it's too late.

On the upside, his fiance got her phone back from the police. They were very reluctant to relinquish it, but the DA ordered them to give it back. So now she can sell one of her phones to pay her court fees.

I'm up late again. LOL. Can't seem to get my sleep schedule back on track but my family members and I have always been night owls.

So today....at a board meeting via zoom....a friend of mine was literally accused of being an "Insurgent".

The joke is.....the only difference between us is that he got caught.

Of course, I always thought of myself as more of a counterrevolutionary.

I have found that I can not talk about my position on anything around a group of people, at work half of the people are DIMs and the rest are worse! I find that next to HARD CORE Conservatives I am to liberal, around Liberals I am too hard core. So I just listen and keep score, choose your friends very slowly and very carefully....

easy day today, nothing but a follow up visit to my PCP. I think I'll visit the local firearms emporium and see if they have anything in stock yet, after fighting with my lcp slide I am ready to look at a small revolver.

The construction guys are hard at work already, and am surprised husband is still sleeping. Kids will be starting on line school in a few minutes. I woke up feeling pretty good, so hopefully husband will, too. Should finish the last few Christmas cards today. We had some boxes come in from Amazon, and they're the grands gifts, so maybe I'll get them wrapped. After the 21st, I'll need to get to a store for stocking stuffers and something for mom for Christmas. She's in sweatshirt mode in the wintertime, something with an embroidered something on the front, so not hard to find. We'll see how I hold out for the day. Last night, husband kept thinking his breathing was terribly bad, but his 02 level was showing what it normally does. His prednisolone has been upped to 60, and he gets a little strange on that high a level, so we'll see. Our adult kids are calling daily and telling us what to do. This is a new thing that is not going over well with me.

Be leaving in a few minutes to pick up my WM order.

Dang 24 deg this morning.

Then take wife to primary care doctor.
Bad dry cough, loss of breath too easy.
Her BP was way too high this morning. Just happens randomly. 169/92 .

Working with car dealer thru phone, negotiating on a cr, in Nashville.

Y'all have a great day.

Amen to that! I am very careful about what I say. Someone always knows better than me. I am friendly to people I see regularly, even if we don't agree on topics. Life is too short to be arguing. I keep my opinions to myself everywhere I go, even here. I also can be viewed as liberal to some, conservative to others. Unless I'm asked, its best to just be quiet. My opinion is my business.

I don't often say much... always been the outlier. I remember as a little kid (2-3) looking into the kindergarten school and wondering why I couldn't go but I walked on. Funny, that is the last time I remember being on the outside looking in. After that I was always looking out, whether I was inside or outside. Lakes, streams, rivers and mountains always called to me.
I try to see things from different sides but it seems that my "black and white" view of right and wrong are out of fashion. There are lots of shades of gray - more than 50 for sure. ;) As long as I can do the things that I enjoy it's still spring and summer. Winter will come in its own time. I still have more to do.

It's a whopping 28* here but feels like 22*.
If not lower.
Got the water dripping in the sinks, shower.
Don't want the pipes to freeze.
Got the grand daughters gifts laid out on my bed.
Will be wrapping up their gifts this afternoon.
I shop all year usually after the normal season for next year's season.
Picked up Reign several outfits for summer for just $5.
Got Estelle several outfits for summer for $5.
Need to pick up stocking stuff, maybe candy cane, orange, books.
Dishes are done, supper is cooked for tonight already.
Strawberry didn't waste any time this morning outside taking care of her business.
It was 19* when I got up.
Sipping coffee, thinking about a nap.
Stay warm all.
Hope everybody has a blessed day.

My brother had ran an errand for the VFD so I resumed work on the duct work subtask of The Hobbit Hole project. I have spent a fair amount of gray matter pondering the options and finally committed to a plan and opened a hole in the floor between the basement and the first floor.

20201215_145037.jpg

Looking up into the void shows I I have a clear shot to the second floor. It should emerge in the back corner of my closet. I will loose half of my closet rod but I have only worn dress clothes once since I retired .

20201215_145046.jpg

There is just enough room for a 10" round duct which will give me 78 sq in cross section. The main return duct in the basement is 96 sq in so I will still be able to add a 3" duct for the basement office where The Princess gets cold feet in winter.

I still have to solve the puzzle of how to assemble the duct work in the tight space.

I also made some progress on the custom boxes for the wands.

20201215_145539.jpg

I did a prototype lid but it end up just a little short of working. Some how I lost track of my rubber cement stash so will have to wait until Thursday for Amazon to deliver.

We have 4-7" of snow scheduled for tomorrow but I hope to still more work done on the beams and flooring at LLC#1.

Take care,

Ben

We ran round steel flex tubing in a continious run from our main floor when we lined the chimney, we droped a line down and then pulled the liner up in 1 piece, it was about 10" in diameter. I see you can buy round flexible ductwork, it's a little expensive but you could do it in 1 run hauled into place from the top, securing it would be the bigger question.

It was about 38 with an added wind chill when I left the house this morning.
I had Doctor appt. -re-check- today. Went fine.
Walmart- they finally had the fruitcake mix I add to banana bread.
Then to day old bread store where they actually had a few loves of my low calorie bread.
Once home, I made 3 logs of sugar cookie dough and 3 logs of white chocolate chip dough.
They are all in the freezer but one, which I will bake tomorrow.

The drama with the fellow in jail is ongoing, so I just try not to participate, and yes we still have his dog.

Today through Christmas I will be reading this thought:

T'WAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS,
HE LIVED ALL ALONE,
IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE,
MADE OF PLASTER AND STONE.
I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY,
WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE,
AND TO SEE JUST WHO,
IN THIS HOME, DID LIVE.
I LOOKED ALL ABOUT,
A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE,
NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS,
NOT EVEN A TREE.
NO STOCKING BY MANTLE,
JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND,
ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES,
OF FAR DISTANT LANDS.
WITH MEDALS AND BADGES,
AWARDS OF ALL KINDS,
A SOBER THOUGHT,
CAME THROUGH MY MIND.
FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT,
IT WAS DARK AND DREARY,
I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER,
ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY.
THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING,
SILENT, ALONE,
CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR,
IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME.
THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE,
THE ROOM IN DISORDER,
NOT HOW I PICTURED,
A TRUE MODERN SOLDIER.
WAS THIS THE HERO,
OF WHOM I'D JUST READ?
CURLED UP ON A PONCHO,
THE FLOOR FOR A BED?
I REALIZED THE FAMILIES,
THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT,
OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS,
WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT.
SOON ROUND THE WORLD,
THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY,
AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE,
A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY.
THEY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM,
EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR,
BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS,
LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE.
I COULDN'T HELP WONDER,
HOW MANY LAY ALONE,
ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE,
IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME.
THE VERY THOUGHT BROUGHT,
A TEAR TO MY EYE,
I DROPPED TO MY KNEES,
AND STARTED TO CRY.
THE SOLDIER AWAKENED,
AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE,
"SANTA DON'T CRY,
THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE;
I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM,
I DON'T ASK FOR MORE,
MY LIFE IS MY GOD,
MY COUNTRY, MY CORPS.."
THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER,
AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP,
I COULDN'T CONTROL IT,
I CONTINUED TO WEEP.
I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS,
SO SILENT AND STILL,
AND WE BOTH SHIVERED,
FROM THE COLD NIGHT'S CHILL.
I DID NOT WANT TO LEAVE,
ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT,
THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR,
SO WILLING TO FIGHT.
THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER,
WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE,
WHISPERED, "CARRY ON SANTA,
IT'S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE."
ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH,
AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT.
"MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND,
AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT."

This poem was written by a Peacekeeping soldier stationed overseas. The
following is his request. I think it is reasonable
PLEASE. Would you do me the kind favor of sending this to as many people as
you can? Christmas will be coming soon and some credit is due to all of the
service men and women for our being able to celebrate these festivities. Let's
try in this small way to pay a tiny bit of what we owe. Make people stop and
think of our heroes, living and dead, who sacrificed themselves for us.
Please, do your small part to plant this small seed.

Moving day yesterday and today. The trucks showed up two hours early, the unloading crew were right on time and the boom truck was two hours late. Nothing could get done until the boom truck off loaded the shipping containers, as the doors were at the front of the flat beds.

I had to pay the un loaders to just stand around so I managed to get them interested in the wood pile and the new log splitter. Then they discovered the splitting axe and had themselves a contest with that. Those four boys split half my wood pile in two hours. Bad news was they found out that I had a forty foot container of pianos; just two actually, but the rest of the stuff was almost as heavy.

The second container was mostly unloaded today and the septic guys were digging up a storm to get the new septic in, in three days. I'm am pooped just running from one end of this school to the other.

And relishing the moment I am sure.

May God smile on you and your adventures!

Pretty cool. I can play fetch with my two German sheperds in the hall. If I open the door at the end, they can go another 26 feet into the rec room. The kitchen sucks, but I expected that and it will be fixed eventually. Exit signs make good night lights.
Count yourself as blessed.
I thank God that he has smiled on you.
Now it is on you to make the best of it.

We had slumber parties in our school over the years. Our own kids liked that perk. We had a large "mat room" with a climbing wall. One sleepover, we had a friend who had a jolly jump. The weather was windy that evening, so he set it up indoors. That was fun. Flashlight tag in the dark was also popular. School kitchens are kinda weird to make your own. Ours was a commercial kitchen, not huge, but sitting in a dining room with rows of picnic tables to eat is kinda weird. But the hallways are great fun! And playground equipment! We had swings and an old timey merry go round.
