Got some work done on the custom duct work to enhance the air return for the air conditioning

I used a Dremel tool wich a cut off wheel to cut the sheet metal.

The Harbor Freight brake did a decent job on 5he long bends.

View attachment 65304

I had to get creative with the smaller bends.

View attachment 65305

That is the most complicated part I will have to make. The rest will all be rectangular sections.

Having fun.

Ben

Keep going Ben! it looks good from here.

Just found out that a former co-worker from my days working at Pella Windows passed away from Covid complications this evening. Like me, he was a type 1 diabetic, however he didn't take very good care of himself. He lost his own father to Covid last fall, then caught it himself in February. Once he entered the hospital, he never left, spending almost 2 1/2 months fighting it. His lungs recovered but his kidneys shut down, he got pancreatitis, his liver functions went haywire, and he succumbed finally to sepsis. He was around 40 years old.

I don't want to have another discussion about Covid here. I would like to take a moment to remind all the members here to take care of themselves physically. Covid isn't the only thing out there that will get you. Keep your body strong, and you'll be better able to fight off and heal from whatever comes along, whether it be disease or trauma.

Be safe and be strong...

We spent the day on Beaver Creek we caught a few fish and I taught the boy how to use a fly rod.

.... My biggest disappointment is having to reduce the size of the window. ...

Our first house we completely remodeled the kitchen. Moved the sink to an outside wall, wife wanted a window over the sink so she could look outside while doing dishes. Cut a hole in the wall, mounted the new widow, she was happy. When the kitchen was finished one of the last things she wanted was a curtain on the sink window. Curtain covered most of the window so you'd have to strain to look out. Hanging a curtain on a blank wall would have been almost as effective (and a whole lot cheaper!).

I like genealogy too. How far back have you been able to go?

My oldest sister is the family Historian. She trace our line back 6 generations to 1805. I managed to go back 2 more generations.

My mother's parents must have been in the Federal witness program. For years it was impossible to trace their parents. Got lucky and found mom's, mother's parents!

My father's granddad is like that too, can't find a thing about him before he came to America. It's like he suddenly just appeared here. No knowledge of where he came from other than it was a German speaking area. We assume it was in the German territory. No immigration record, no parental records. The other 3 grandparent branches can be traced back to the 1500s but not him, and he gave me my surname so I'd kind of like to know about him...

@The Lazy L and @Spikedriver I finally figured out part of that mystery. My great uncle Guido was born in Italy and was an infant when his parents (with him) immigrated. I could never find anything after him arriving. Figured out they Americanized the name “Guy”. Also in helping a friend of mine with her German tree Ludwig became Louis, Johannas John etc. Might try different spellings or variations of the name.

God bless us all! Treat ourselves right, anything can happen!

Today, I cut the 4X lumber to make the first part of my water barrel stand and I assembled one of the uprights. It will stand 7' tall when I am done, holding horizontal barrels stacked 3 high. Clearing the area where it is going was the hard part, I had 4 barrels sitting there and had to move most of them out of the way. I am trying to level the stand as I build it. The whole thing will be sitting on concrete so once it is in place the job will be half done. The second half of the job will hold 3 more barrels and the distribution pump. The construction is relatively light considering it will need to hold up to 3300 pounds when full.

Urban would love to see a pix when it's finished - or close to it.

Drove to Mayfield KY , about an hour, to look at a 6x10ft tilt trailer , so I can haul the mowers to be serviced from now on. I can't do it anymore.
Bought it. Nice trailer.
Had lunch....pizza.

Got home , cleaned gutters, and graded neighbor's driveway , after 5" rain Wednesday and Thursday.

Such a beautiful day , we sat on the deck swing for awhile.

Dudley the big gray cat showed up a few minutes ago , after being gone for 5 days.

Sitting in my easy chair watching Midway.

Another day resting, felt much better today, a good thing. It just wipes me out if I have to go to town 3 or 4 straight days for what ever reason. For normal folks its no big deal, annoying maybe... CFS is such a wonderful thing. :(

I got some major housekeeping done today though, checked on the chickens. Decided my plantain is ready for making a batch of tincture, maybe tomorrow. I have plenty of EverClear and vodka on hand.

Yes, name changes happened at Ellis Island all the time. My Dad’s parents were born in Soviet Georgia and my Dad spoke only Russian until he went to American schools. His parents never learned English. After they came to America they lived in a Russian/Polish neighborhood in Chicago and stayed immersed in their culture.
Because the Russian alphabet is so different than ours and the people at Ellis Island didn’t know how to interpret the peoples names, they just assigned my Dad’s family with a surname that was phonetically close to what they were hearing. It was often nothing at all like their real last name. Or even their first name.

My maternal grandmother's family had their surname shortened upon entry to the U.S. I have no idea why. But I doubt my paternal great-grandfather had his changed. Typically, my last name is either Jewish, or sometimes common among Amish. But Great Grandfather was neither. (We assume he was not Jewish, anyway. He was at least nominally Christian and raised his 5 sons as Christians. His offspring tended to be very fair skinned, light haired, and blue eyed, and it still predominates to this day. Guess I should take a DNA test to really know about that).

The only clues I have about him are his approximate year of immigration and the story that he travelled to America with a man named Schueneman. His occupation was Millwright/Carpenter and he built churches before he tried to build a dam and grain mill on the creek at the home farm. A flood wiped that out, so he turned to livestock and prospered...

My guess is that there was a name change.

I did not realize you had CFS. What a struggle. The woman who is the main person on Living on a Dime (Youtube) has it, as well as her mother and brother. They all were sick many years ago, and ended up with CFS. It must be life altering.

I don't have CFS, but I cannot be on the go. If I go out to a show, shopping, anything social, I have to come home and have some couch time. Being on the go is just exhausting. My daughter is the complete opposite and has always been a person on the go, although she has slowed down a little now.

Husband altering stock pen to make it easier to work cows this afternoon. I was hoping to tag, vaccinate and worm everything. Now he says worm only. Majority of my cows are brangus/angus and a few have white face. Can't tell solid black ones apart. I keep track of calving dates, weaning dates, sell dates and vaccination dates. He is helping me so I can only do what he is willing to do. He is encouraging me to well 2 that have not shown indication of calving and spending money on buying young heifers from his brother. Brother said he would make me a really good deal. He will pull off cows first of June. Charolais angus cross. Get some color back. I prefer Brahman Hereford cross for a nice tiger stripe.

Hosted an overnight visit from the granddaughters. My sister joined us for the evening movie. I was surrounded by women. Watched overnight in the museum and The Princess pointed out that she had spent the night in a museum for work.

After the girls departed I fiddled about making progress on that custom duct.

Need to add a few more screws then cut a 10" round hole in the top to mate with the stack pipe going up through the wall to the second floor.

I am down to 3 more days to brush my teeth. In theory could extend brushing but The Princess has objected to me keeping the teeth after they are pulled. Even after I offered to polish them and make an ankle bracelet for her. Go figure!

;)

Cows all wormed and nobody got hurt. Husband grumpy
Worming cows used to make me grumpy too... There is always the one cow that doesn't want to cooperate and try's ruin everyone's day.

My big accomplishment for today… I was almost out of pecan wood for smoking meats on my little grill. Late last night I sliced up another batch and got it in my dehydrator, 12hrs at 130 degrees gets all the moisture out. I put the hot dry wood in half pint jars, cooling will cause a tight seal.

This will last me until early fall, doesn’t take much on a small grill. Quick cooking burgers and dogs only need a little smoke but they need it as soon as I start them so the wood has to be dry.

Peanut, I feel you on the CFS. I've had it for about 2 decades now. I have good days and bad days. But if I've active one day I'm usually wiped the next few days. People are always saying I need to keep doing more but don't realize how bad some of the crashes were. After that cleaning I did, I was so exhausted the next day that I was slurring my words & stumbling around like I was drunk. I've been known to go to sleep on a Friday and not wake up until Sunday. I was talking to my uncle one day about when I had an active day full of energy. He thought I was "cured". I had to explain that it's a cyclical random thing and that I have days of decent energy and a lot of days of low energy and that I have crashes after days of high energy. People who don't have it don't seem to understand how it works.

Anyway, got my RX and groceries yesterday. My brother came along to help. He was able to carry a lot of stuff for me since I was still feeling tired and off. He cooked something new. Unfortunately, whatever he put in it didn't agree with my digestive system. On top of having a kidney stone, I was sick all day from the food. Curled in the fetal position fighting the urge to vomit while holding a cat against my abdomen. I managed to get the cat to cooperate to stay just where I needed him to stay. He's a very cuddly & sweet kitty so he was happy to oblige. He and two other cats are cuddling me now. The dog came up and licked my face. Wasn't til after 8pm that the tummy ache went away. Still feel slightly nauseous but am OK.

Friend's tortie cat had kittens. When I'm feeling better I need to go visit them.

Went fishing at the pond and the wife came out to see how I was doing and stepped in a hole and broke her right fibula right above the foot. They just put a splint on it in the ER and we have to take her to an Orthopedic doctor tomorrow morning to have it fixed right. Long before that I took this video of the ducks and geese. I'm surprised it came out as good as it did since it was toward the sun and I couldn't see what I was recording because of the glare.

When "we" immigrated to theUnited States our last name was recorded as the name sounds, not by its actual spelling.
