how do you keep it from going out overnight? what sort of stove do you have? Ours goes out even if I shut off everything you can shut off and put a bunch of wood in it in the evening
We have a Kuma stove. Before we go to bed we stoke it with several logs then shut the damper down. Usually I get up at 5 or 6, open the damper and throw a few more logs in and it fires right back up. When it's really cold out I leave the damper open and sleep on the couch so I can add wood every couple of hours.

That explains it, ours is pretty much unattended for like 10 hours, nobody wants to get up and do that LOL
I sit in the bedroom with the space heater on when the work is done
Ours stays on for at least 6 hours , we have tried that going swimming and shopping and being gone for that long but that's about it

I think maybe it depends on what temp you grew up with? I never got used to the heat in Florida, I put the ac as low as it would go and it ran all day long.

lol hell on earth: Florida in August without ac
I grew up outside of San Francisco, so no snow. But I've lived all over the place because of husband's job. So I've acclimated. But humidity, ugh.

I'm up with husband's med stuff all the time. If I tended the fire, too, I'd never get a couple hours of sleep. We have forced air heat backup. I set it low, but it'll kick on if it gets that cold.
I put in a forced air propane furnace when I built the house. About the only time we use it is when we're going to be gone all day or overnight. Then I set the thermostat at 61 degs. Unless the outside temps are in the single didgets or lower, the furnace rarely comes on. Since we live totally on solar I don't like using the furnace too much. The only exception is if the backup generator is already running, then sometimes I'll turn the furnace on.

Got up, worked out, cleaned up, checked on Charlene, debated if she should go into storage for the winter and the Chevy Colorado should come out of storage, got the apartment ready, received the grocery order and put the stuff away, posted the next week's menu, locked up the guns, met the cleaning crew at the door and let them in, set out some pumpkin muffins for them and chatted for a bit, watched as they cleaned, watched them leave, put things back in their place, made lunch and now the girl and I are engaged in Marvel Wednesday where we watch a Marvel show every week and eat foods her mom doesn't really like.

Got some energy ... tore apart the stove to deep clean it. I'd forgotten what a PIA it is, and how many pieces there are!!!! So far an hour, and I'd say another hour before it's all clean and everything put back together.

This came after doing a mountain of dishes!!!

I'm getting tired ... lol.

Wife has errands to run, so we'll be attending to them today as well.

Got a bunch of inside stuff done while it was chilly outside this morning. Took Bear to walking trails in the little town closest to us and and encountered dumb people! Came home, ate lunch, messed around on HCL for a bit. Now I'm going outside to either clean my feed/garden shed, or start cleaning the big storage shed!

Avoided the cold rain so I worked on The Hobbit Hole remodel project.

The corner under the stairs is where I put in the footer last week.

The footer is 4 inches thick with rebar reinforcement.

I found the plates for the top and bottom of the jack. Greased up the screw and adjusted the height.

I will have to do some surgical demolition to get the jack in place. I have to find the big pipe wrench.

My bum shoulder told me I did enough for today.

Domestic violence mostly.

I was recently told that I am a fixer / problem solver while the lady is a venter. She doesn't want me to fix things, she wants to me listen to her bitch about things. Under certain specific conditions, I do what I'm told.
A number of years ago, I heard about this phenomenon that goes on with men and women. Women vent and men want to fix the problem. Women don't necessarily want them to fix it, they just want to vent and to let off steam.

I watched a video once with toddlers sitting in a room alone playing with a toy. They would send in someone to "break" the toy and leave. Almost without exception the boys would try and fix the toy, while the girls would just sit there and cry.

It's built in to our code.

I totally believe that!

I am not a typical female. I am always trying to fix things. I see a problem in a public setting, and I do what I can to rectify it. Dog parks have a few benches or chairs, but never enough and not always in the right places relative to sun and shade. If I see free chairs in alleys or by the side of the road with a free sign on them, I take them to the park. One park I have taken more than 20 free chairs to. They get used. We had a crazy man take a machete to 5 trees in the same park. Police were called and he was taken away. I got stuff to treat and wrap the damaged areas of the trees. Three of the trees survived, two did not. Not a big deal for any of it, easy fixes.

My house was built in 1890. One of the previous owners removed the stairs to the basement and built a basement entrance outside. Where the basement stairs started upstairs is now a small but efficient powder room. But that is by the kitchen and the kitchen floor is not level. I think that something structural was removed in the basement when the stairs were removed. I have wondered about this and repairing it or getting it repaired. I am certainly not the only person in my area with this problem. I have seen people asking about getting their floors leveled.

The wife's Jeep didn't get fixed today. So I'm going to make the drive up north to pick up the grandson myself tomorrow am. I booked a hotel room for tomorrow night just in case the roads are bad. The grandson will enjoy driving down with just grandpa in my Jeep. We might even make a side trip along the way and look at some old mines.

Our house is super crooked on one end. It's obvious in the kitchen and dining room. My favorite cousin's daughter and family had a 4 month job done on their old farmhouse...foundation and redo of the basement. Expensive. Looks beautiful now, but major work. The lift the whole house.
I used to watch videos of a couple in Canada who did this, lifted their house and put a basement underneath it. They did the work themselves.

We did that for the project house. We hand dug the basement. We had to lift the house to replace all of sill plates.

The kitchen we installed.

Oh crap....I must have gender issues I didn't know about!!🤔🤪

Worked on my stair project off and on today. Didn’t accomplish as much as I intended but did get the landing properly supported from the floor. The power was off for 3hrs midday so I got lunch a the place down the road. When the power came back on I had a modem problem with my internet service. That wasted another hour but got it straightened out. No plans tonight but tv.
