Mountain Trapper your place is so beautiful...and almost unimaginable to a flatlander in farm country.

We couldn't imagine living anywhere else. But living here does come with its challenges.

I think I got a little chilled today. I fell flat on my face twice while hiking up to the pump house. Once I got back to the house I've been covered up in a wool blanket on the couch next to the wood stove. After sleeping a couple hours I'm finally warm again and feeling a little better. Tomorrow morning I'll get the tractor out and start clearing the road to the pump house.

High temp was 4 degs today. Just got back in from the pump house. Had to hike a quarter mile in snow shoes to get there. The generator started right up, we have water now. I think the generator is programed to attempt 2 starts, if it doesn't start after the second attempt it shuts down and shows a fault. Then I noticed that the pilot light was off inside the pump house. Fortunately the sun was out today so it kept the inside of the pump house at 40 degrees. Anyway everything is back to normal now.View attachment 173386

Looks like Montana or Wyoming, or Idaho. Also looks like the mountains outside my house or even my back yard in the city. Mount Baldy looks even worse than that.

Besides despising winter, just going to work today! Restarting the wood stove when I get home! The house will hold it's heat until then! Doing some cleaning here later!

no internet, using phone, so will not be on here much today since we have little data. Just on here checking the weather mostly. Had a bad ice storm last night and this was the scariest thing ever!! Trees kept breaking and falling down. One almost hit the house, one branch on top of son's house, not sure what other damages we have.

Winter does suck. It's negative one out with some wind. Little granddaughter has a two hr school delay, but the weather won't be improving very much. Animal chores are going to be very yuck today.
On my agenda today is just surviving the hour and a half animal chores this morning.

They have winter storm warnings posted here for a foot of snow today and tomorrow, then it's supposed to snow through Wednesday with another foot or more.
After breakfast I'll get my tractor started and work on clearing the road to the pump house. I tried using the snowblower on it yesterday but the snow is just too deep for it. We still have water this morning so far so I'm hoping that the generator is starting on its own.
I brought home another tank of diesel yesterday. I'll transfer it later this morning in to the bulk tank then park the truck back in the barn. I shouldn't need any more diesel the rest of the winter.

Drinking doesn't help make life any better. At best it just dulls the issues for a short time. Dump the booze and have a glass of juice instead. That's what I'm drinking right now. Despite all of the negative BS on the news life really is pretty good.

At 9am, early for me as I'm kind of a Yogi Bear this winter.. Sleep till noon, snack till dark.. Enjoying my first cup of DELICIOUS coffee.. Temp = -11F, wind chill -35F.. Glad I got out yesterday when it was a bit nicer..

Nice picture Trapper.. Wouldn't live anywhere else.. I do miss living ...bush... But this is the best place for me at this time, so as the saying goes ...bloom where you are planted... I imagine the recliner and a blanket will spend some quality time together later today..

Seeing 4 dogs and a cat today. Busy day. Wish I could meet Haertig at the range for some shooting practice, but I'm too busy.
Internet is down at home. I am not there long enough to deal with it. Internet is down at the main hose I am at this week, day times. They were majorly hacked and even got locked out of their computers. Hackers are the worst.

Dog and I did two rounds with the animal chores. One more to go. We keep coming in to warm up. Going out in a minute...Geese run and two turkey runs to do. Bringing up ice buckets is a pain. Just brought in all of the rabbit waterers to thaw. The wood burning stove is handy for that stuff, I just set it next to it on the tile.

Its chilly and the kitties were rioting until I fed them. Boo continued to holler at me after being fed because he wanted to be held. Dogs are curled up next to me and Ginger is on my lap.

After a few months of consideration, and a month of research on YouTube, I ordered a laser engraver/cutter. It is a desk top home business model with an air filtration system so it doesn't have to be vented outside and will set up nicely in my office. It also has 2 different laser head units, a 20 watt diode that is ideal for fine detail engraving with photographic quality, and it comes with a 2 watt infrared for ultra fine detail engraving on metals like gold, silver, Stainless Steel, removing the color off anodized aluminum, plastic, acrylic, I am looking forward to playing with it, and my day job boss wants leather patches and metal dog tag emblems for hats so I wont have to pay someone else to make them for me anymore. The day boss also wants to engrave a variety of new purchased parts with his logo for advertising purposes. Things like chain sprockets, flag holders, and other fancy engine parts.

On the rare occasions I am in town I will hit the second had discount stores like Goodwill and Restore and see what trinkets I can find to engrave. Old metal bowls, spatulas, coffee cups, cutting boards, etc.

I wasn't all that eager to spend a few grand but I hate paying others to do something I can do. Plus, once I get it set up when the kids have free time and I need a large quantity of things engraved they can place the objects, hit start, sit on their phone or computer and play games until it is time to run the next batch. Money for them, less of my time lost.

Oh, and it is finally snowing here. They claim it will switch back and forth between snow and rain the next couple days which is good because we definitely need the moisture. It is about 37* outside now but we are high enough elevation the snow is sticking, almost an inch on the ground already.

Just got the tractor heated up and started. Since the snowplow is frozen under a foot of ice I'll have to use the tractor bucket to clear the road to the pump house. It'll take awhile but at least I won't have to walk.
It's snowing right now. The temp is up 14 degs so its pretty pleasant to be working outside.
