Watched a good show tonight on the pbs Nova series. This one was about the milky way galaxy. Put together in 2021 with the latest science, very interesting.

I watched another one on NatGeo a few days ago that was really good. It was an in depth look at Stonehenge. The science has come a long way in the 10 years it’s been since I saw a show about it. Seems science may have finally figured out why it was built.

Does the chariot race in the original 'BEN-HUR' count as a prepping video?

Lol... what the players in 'THE ROAD WARRIOR' turn to once all fuel is depleted!!!

Look at the bright side: no worries about speed cops, BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! ;)

Road rage will become "chariot rage!!!" (Wheel-cutting blades and whip-grabbing totally acceptable!)

I'm off to throw a little water around (again), then I'm firing up the original 'BEN-HUR' flick, WOOHOO!!!!!!!!

I was wrong, this is NOT the original version of 'BEN-HUR'---evidently, there's a black & white version dating back to 1925 or so, which would make this Heston flick the SECOND film version. Turns out that General Lew Wallace, the author of the book, was a Civil War general (Union, more's the pity), which explains the earlier and original film version. Maybe I'll watch the original later this weekend, but for now I'm enjoying THIS version, lol... I'm still on the first disc of the DVD set, so I'll be up past midnight, no doubt. No WAY I miss the chariot race tonight, I'm in the mood for that radical event... IMHO, some of the BEST FILMMAKING EVER, and done back when there was no CG BS, aye? Back in the day, "a cast of thousands" actually meant thousands of people, not some fake CG cr@p, lol. Gotta love the old EPICS, they were AWESOME!!! And STILL ARE!!! Okay, I'm back to my cold beer and primo flick, later comes the midnight grind session with choice leftovers, lol... life could definitely be worse!!! Cue the LEPROSY SCENES!!! Lol... CHEERS!!!

The Tour de France ended today... 2000+ miles of bike racing, 21 of the last 24 days (one rest day a week).

There was great racing everyday, starting with Stage 1, even today, Stage 21 had a nice sprint finish. It's been the best one in a few years.

Afterwards I watched a car race, well part of it anyway, fell asleep in my recliner and missed the end.

Just watched 'FINAL DESTINATION 5' on Tubi---no Academy Award winner, that's for sure, and like the rest of that series, an unintentional comedy. I liked the wrap at the end showing highlights from past FD flicks, with AC/DC's 'IF YOU WANT BLOOD' tune as the soundtrack, lol. I must say, if I ever had such a premonition, I'd probably get up and relocate, maybe go to the latrine or to the beer bar until things settle down... ;)

Now my Roku Streaming Stick is kicking out the first FD movie, not sure whether I wanna sit through another round of bad acting and cheesy effects, lol. The whole "auto racing gone bad" theme is comical... like an oil spill that large on the track would EVER go unnoticed, especially in the pit area, lol. Of course, the list of OSHA violations in these FD movies is as long as your arm, and maybe your leg too... both severed, of course.

Some of the deaths are not only comical, they're downright undignified... like that gal in the stands who gets hit by an engine block. The motor did NOT look up to racing standards, lol... the CG crew probably threw in a '73 Ford Pinto block as an inside joke. The gal in FD5 who was impaled on the sloop mast, what are the odds of that happening? Long odds in Vegas, I'm thinking... meh, we all got it coming one way or another, no doubt about it.

After hauling hazardous waste to registered treatment facilities clear across the Lower 48, including truckloads of Class 3 Flammable Liquids & Class 4 Flammable Solids, I'm thinking I may have missed my shot at glory, lol... I'll wind up choking on a dollar steak, 10-4? Maybe get taxed to death by the gubmint. You can only cheat Death so many times... like a good poker player, he always wins in the end. On that cheerful note, I'm off to grab a cold beer...

Wingnut what the heck is an FD movie? It sounds horrible!
I was watching a British mystery called Single Handed, it's set in Ireland. Guy was in a pub, and there on the wall next to him was a recent style Michigan license plate. Strange! It was a dark and intense show but interesting. Unfortunately only the first few episodes were free on the Roku channel, if I want to watch more it's money to sign up for Acorn.
So now I've been watching a series on shipwrecks, pretty interesting, they go over the story of the ship as well as the dives to the wreck.

The Umbrella Academy

Just finished Season 3 (the last one currently available) on Netflix.

This show is weird...and weirdly addictive. I really do like the show...and yet it is so very different. It pushes the limits on things to an extent that I am hesitant to recommend it to anyone, and yet, I will be looking forward to Season 4, hopefully.

In its entirety... Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs... one of the first songs I learned to play on a banjo. I worked on it for weeks until I could play it note for note, just like Earl played it.

Saw part of an episode today...

The wife and I watched The Gray Man last night. Action thriller. Chris Evans (Captain America) tries his chops as a bad guy. Ryan Gosling is good. Fun ride. I give it an A. I recommend it.

Also watched Uncharted. I generally like movies with Mark Wahlberg. Tom Holland was pretty good as well. I'll give it a B. Above average, and a fun ride as well...just not as good as The Gray Man, IMO.
[Edit to replace the trailer...I think this one discloses less of the story.]

Movie night for the wife and I. We've developed a routine of picking a night to watch movies, and we usually watch an action/adventure/scifi/spy thriller movie for me, and a romance/comedy for her...always mine first, because she says she can't get to sleep after watching my movies.

Tonight, we started with The Marksman. I'm going to give it a B...maybe a B+? Pretty good action flick. I like Liam Neeson...although I'm not sure the Irishman was the best actor to cast for a Marine Veteran, Arizona rancher. ..but, he does a decent job. The film does have some great moments, as the trailer shows...some good M1 and then Mini-14(?) action scenes. :)

.

We finished movie night with The Secret: Dare to Dream. It was "her movie," but I'm going to have to give it a solid A. Very enjoyable. She gets a slight victory tonight. :)

Hubby and I just go around to watching The Secret: Dare to Dream. I agree with your evaluation. It was a cute little 'feel good' flick. I just LOVE those kinds of movies!

Just watched "Mr. Jones." This is a story about the Stalin famine. It applies today as a representation of a government induced famine that kills millions.

We're watching this series called "La Brea" on Peacock channel (it comes with our cable TV package). It's also on Hulu. It's about a sinkhole that transports people back to 10,000 BC. It's hard to decide who is making the stupidest decisions - the characters in the show or the screen writers of the plot. But we're watching it anyways...

SCP on the "Broken god" on youtube. freaky stuff! Its supposed to all be creepypasta and 4chan stuff, but I get the idea that lots of it are "fed information" due to certain subjects they should know NOTHING about!

I am still watching "Die Bergretter" on youtube when I have time. I am now in season 10 . Show is a mix of mountain rescue and soap opera in Austria. I am going to be sad when I get to the end but pretty sure they are still making new shows

Watched four episodes of 'HELL ON WHEELS' last night, and I'll eventually work my way through the entire series (never saw it before, go figure), but I also picked up some DVDs from the library:

'GONE IN 60 SECONDS'---the original flick, I was surprised to see it in our library, but it's better than the remake!

'RIO BRAVO'---another Duke film, and who doesn't like Dean Martin? Dude could drink like a fish, he's a role model, lol.

'THE FOUR FEATHERS'---just watched the original film a few days ago, this is the remake with Heath Ledger.

'BREAKOUT'---never saw this, but I like Brendan Fraser in many of his roles, so I'll give this film a day in court.

'THE MARKSMAN'---Liam Neeson, never saw this one before either, though I've seen plenty o' Liam Neeson films.

Watched Get the Gringo the other night. Finishing the season finale of Better Call Saul.
Was Get the Gringo any good? Is it the one with Mel Gibson?

I finally finished Father Stu. It started off slow and I thought it was going to be the run of the mill bad guy turns good guy flick, but the twist in it did suprise me. It was good.....not great, but good. There were some good lines in it toward the end.

Just watched 'RIO BRAVO' starring John Wayne, Dean Martin, Walter Brennan, Angie Dickinson, Ricky Nelson et al... directed by Howard Hawks. What a CLASSIC WESTERN!!! Claude Akins is good as one of the bad guys... I think he used to be a truck driver before he started acting, I know he played a trucker in at least one show, lol. Stumpy (Walter Brennan) steals the show in this Duke flick, and so does Dean Martin, but 'The Duke' is his usual self and he has some hilarious lines, lol. Dean Martin is great as a recovering alcoholic, but it's weird to see him without a martini glass in his hand, lol. Young Ricky Nelson is good as Colorado. Later tonight, I'll watch the original 'GONE IN 60 SECONDS'---I never did watch it the other day. That's a wrap for today's entertainment, lol... ;)
