@Neb I read a couple or reviews elsewhere. The bashing seemed from a "true fan" perspective. Which is sort of silly. The hobbit trilogy was very different from the lord of the rings movies. And to be honest the books were the best of all. Wished like most fans, there was more stories...

Why can't the Silmarilian be used? I'm not aware there was an issue.

Licensing issues.

It cost Amazon 750M to include references to Hobbit and trilogy. Not allowed to reference Silmarilian stories. But JRR left a lot of options in his framework. That is where the Rings of Power had the option to fill in the gaps.

I'm a fan, I just hope they stay true to the books and don't LGBTQ it all to hell!
Gay Orcs...."shiver"
Now dragons could transgender, being reptiles so...
BAH. it's 3AM.I'll zip it now.

Never could watch Harry Potter, it was like some people watching "The life of Bryan" which I never really got into either.
Gimmie some Knights who say "NEET" and their shrubbery any day. LOL

I have gone down the rabbit hole watching old episodes of Perry Mason. These are the originals that ran from 1957 to 1966. We have a channel on our cable called ME TV, Memorable Entertainment. They have a great line up of old TV shows. Part of the fun is seeing people who were nobodies at the time who rose to stardom.

Same here.

I am starting to watch episode 2 for the Fourth time. Saying more would be a spoiler.

"Sprung". New comedy series on freevee.

Haven't laughed that much since the cops episode on Earl!
Not many "My name is Earl" fans. I thought I was the only one... even bought the box set on dvd. That show makes me laugh out loud at least once every episode. And the cops episode? a riot!!! There were a couple episodes later that incorporated parts of the cops episode.

The Kings Speech, an historic look at King George VI from pre war through WWII.
This is with Colin Firth? I saw it when it first came out, and then watched it a year or two ago. It was interesting IMHO.

Royalty and nobility is something I don't have any real interest in, but perhaps that is because I realize that my family were peasants as far back as I can trace them. I think of NWO and other groups of people now who want to go back to the treatment of most of us to be peasant like, not owning anything and serving the nobility and royalty.

I liked it because I saw a man fighting his inner demons so as to be able to perform his duties to his country. A duty he did not want to perform.

I can imagine that his stuttering had brought him a lot of grief in his youth, in spite of being heir to the throne.
I ended up watching it a second time because during covid, after I turned off the television. I set out to watch certain actors and actresses. I had really never tuned into Colin Firth, even though I had seen this movie and maybe a few others he was in. He is a Hollywood type, no doubt. He is far from being the only actor that I have tried to see their body of work, but it became a style of what I watch now, seeing all I can by certain actors. I won't be able to name them all, but he is just one of many.

I will be watching episode #2 for the seventh time tonight. Look forward to episode #3 of Rings of power that was released today.

The Princess and I have a tradition of watching all of the Hobbit and LotR starting Thanksgiving through the end of the year.

Rings of Power is planned for 10 episodes per season for 5 seasons. 50.

Runway of Hope - A 9/11 Story

A 60 minute special (without commercials, perhaps 40-45 minutes) about the 38 jumbo jets (I think) carrying 7000 passengers and crew, that were inbound from Europe on 9/11, and were rerouted to Gander, Newfoundland, Canada. Great story.

The passengers & crew were stranded there for 5 days. They doubled the population of Gander. After the first 12 hours or so, everyone realized there were stuck there (without access to their suitcases, because of terror fears), and the population of Gander stepped up to feed, clothe and house all 7000 of them.

It is the second special I've seen about Gander on 9/11. Both are worth watching. Feel good stories, about ordinary people coming to the aid of their fellow man.

I saw something a few years ago about this situation. It was so interesting to see how people just opened their homes and hearts to all of those people.

I watched "The Lost City" on Amazon Prime last night. Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum, Daniel Radcliffe and Brad Pitt. It was entertaining enough. It tried to be a "Romancing the Stone", but didn't make it up to the level of that film. It kind of plodded along, drew a few snickers here and there, and then it was over. That kind of movie. It was OK.

I recently watched 'THE PROTECTOR' starring Tony Jaa from 'ONG-BAK'---a Quentin Tarantino film, and I'm not a big fan of Quentin Tarantino as a person, since he's part of the problem with modern society & not part of the solution, but this movie was hilarious. Part tribute film, part parody of those martial arts films from the '70s & '80s, there's even a scene or two where the audio is tweaked, a play on the bad dubbing in so many earlier martial arts films. Now, I have to admit that I pinched some bud off a big ol' weed spear in the yard and "cured it in the bowl" prior to watching the film, so that made the movie even funnier, but it's not a bad film for simple entertainment. Don't expect too much realism in the fight scenes, and you won't be disappointed, lol... the movie is definitely good for some laughs, and sometimes that's all I want from a flick, ya know? Anyway, I recommend this film to all who are into the martial arts genre, it's worth watching so long as you forget that Quentin Tarantino directed it, lol. ;)

P.S. This film was on a free library DVD, so I didn't pay a dime to watch it... :)

I am watching something in English for the first time in a long time: Cobra Kai
So far it's not "woke" and not bad but I have only watched a few episodes. I did martial arts for a large part of my life ( quit in my 40s , too many injuries I was getting to old for )

I can't watch anything 9/11 related, so as it was either that or the life of the Queen last night, I watched 'River Monsters' and a new episode of Mountain Men. I used to love it, but it has deteriorated badly; theres no need for 'drama' its interesting enough as it was. Now it just makes out folks to be a bit dumb. 'I have to be careful, or I may fall into this rage river while its -20'...and then..
