A person I know could not pass the entrance exam for a small town sherrifs deputy. He hired a tutor and finally passed the test. As he advanced and took more tests the higher ups recognized his pattern recognition and other skills. His last job was briefing a president. He too was finally diagnosed with a "learning dissability" His skills and gifts just worked differently than the norm the tests were designed for.

Yesterday I enjoyed a double feature for my birthday: first I watched 'YOUNG GUNS' (hadn't seen it in awhile), then I watched 'LAWMAN' with Burt Lancaster, since I enjoyed it earlier this year. Burt Lancaster was a pretty good actor, I liked him in a bunch of different movies... back when films were made for entertainment, not political propaganda. ;)

The Tour de France started today. The racing is interesting, most of the time, and the scenery is great. Tv resolution is very good these days. I sometimes see medicinal plants I recognize as bicycles zip by at 40mph. I see a lot of species I’ve never seen, sometimes recognize their plant family.

There was a bad crash this morning. One guy had to leave the race, another managed to get back on his bike but was bleeding from both knees and one arm. I doubt he’ll be racing tomorrow. But nbc isn’t going to air tomorrow’s race. The head of their sports programming is an idiot. They mess up every sport they cover, nascar, boxing and football. Both college and pro. grumble grumble... A bicycle race? They can't even get that right!

Many people with learning disabilities do have genius level IQ's. It is their learning styles which get in their way. Teachers try to find ways to meet these students, but it can be a struggle for everyone.

Working my way through the 'JURASSIC PARK' series, I'm partway through the third flick now... sometimes I'll stop a film when I'm ready to crash and simply resume watching it later, my TV and streaming stick both help with that and it's really easy. If it's a movie I haven't seen yet, then I like to watch the whole film, but I've seen all these dinosaur flicks before, so no worries. I'll watch the rest of that interrupted film later today. 😒

"Love and Mercy" about Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys. Brian struggled with mental illness and ended up under the conservatorship of a psychologist who would have probably killed him or caused his death had he not been rescued by his future wife.

"
Love & Mercy is a 2014 American biographical drama film directed by Bill Pohlad about the Beach Boys' co-founder and leader Brian Wilson and his struggles with mental illness during the 1960s and 1980s. It stars Paul Dano and John Cusack as the young and middle-aged Wilson, respectively, with Elizabeth Banks as his second wife Melinda Ledbetter and Paul Giamatti as his psychologist Dr. Eugene Landy. The title comes from Wilson's 1988 song.

The film alternates between Wilson's production of the album Pet Sounds (1966) and his treatment under Landy's 24-hour therapy program in the late 1980s. Wilson called the film "very factual",[4] albeit containing parts that "weren't actually as factual".[5] He had little involvement with its making, although Ledbetter was relied upon for the 1980s portions. The cast and crew maintained that nothing in the film was a "Hollywood" embellishment and that everything was intended to be as truthful as possible. Conversely, Landy's son Evan felt that his father was unfairly portrayed. Some minor inaccuracies were noted by critics, a number of which relate to the minimal coverage devoted to Wilson's family and collaborators. Ledbetter said that Landy's treatment of Wilson "was even worse" than the film portrays.

Love & Mercy premiered at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival on September 7, 2014[6][7] and was released by Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions on June 5, 2015. It grossed $28.6 million over a $10 million budget and received positive reviews from critics, with Dano's performance garnering significant praise. It was nominated for two Golden Globes: Best Supporting Actor – Motion Picture (Paul Dano) and Best Original Song ("One Kind of Love"). A soundtrack album that includes the original score by Atticus Ross was released on August 14, 2015."

Why is the "ISPOILER" only made possible if you click on the blurr? I agree with your statement on if you work hard, you can achieve a lot! THAT IS AN ACCOMPLISHMENT, so why blur it out? Something you should be very proud of!

I wanted to offer myself as yet another example of...

I used the spoiler tag not to detract from the point regarding how tests are pi$$ poor way to evaluate a person's ability and potential.

Ok @Neb, but I see it as you shadow banning yourself. You do understand the definition?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shadow_banningIs the practice of blocking or partially blocking a user or the user's content from some areas of an online community in such a way that the ban is not readily apparent to the user,

You should be very proud of the fact you overcame disabilties!

Just watched 'SILVERADO' and had a blast, lol... I love when John Cleese (of Monty Python fame) says: "TODAY MY JURISDICTION ENDS HERE!!!" 🤣

Great flick for simple entertainment, the cinematography is excellent and the plot keeps ya interested... another reason why I love Westerns so darned much, AYE?

Some of those scenic shots were incredible, just absolutely gorgeous & magnificent Western scenery... beats lookin' at Compton, North Philly & the Lower Bronx! 😳

Been watch Soprano dvds, but tonight... have to tell this.

Wow, I just saw a show about plane crashes. This one about a fiery crash at LAX in feb of 1991. After a quick search I saw it even has a wiki page.

On the show a crash survivor was interviewed. I remembered him, he was a patient at a burn center. Many of the 66 survivors were brought there with burns. There was a line of ambulances in front of the er.

I was working on the catscan at this hosp. It was scheduled down time for a major part replacement. I had the machine in dozens of pieces, the middle of a 10hr job.

Suddenly people were yelling for me to put it all back together. Saying there was a plane crash, many victims needed a CT scan. Hurry, hurry, hurry!

Talk about working under pressure!! I felt it that day! I had it scanning in an hour, sort of. Imagine driving your muscle car… with 5 cylinders firing and the tranny only has 3rd gear and reverse. Still missing a few fenders and one wheel.

It was sort of running… and they sort of scanned patients with it. I worked on it in between patients for the next 7hours. 10-15min at a time. When I left all 8 cylinders were firing but the tranny was still hosed. But, they could scan all night if need be. The next day I was back to start the 10hr job all over again.

Anyway, it was sort of neat to see that interview. There was a line of gurneys in radiology that night. This guy stood out. So much so that I remembered him 30yrs later.

Great job, Peanut. I raise my bourbon and soda to you tonight!

@Tacitus I don’t know, maybe it’s my age… but lately things I see on tv remind me of the past. Sometimes odd things. In this case it was a show about an event I remember but... I recently realized this seems to happen more than it used to. :(

Funny, the thing I remember most about that night was fear. Those first few minutes wondering 'how the heck can i make this mess scan'? It didn't even have covers/shrouds on it when they started scanning. Metal and wires, circuit boards visible, parts pieces still piled against the walls. If i were a patient i'd have thought 'what the heck is this thing? does it even work?' It didn't look like a catscan.

The other thing that stands out was an er doc yelling at me. As if that would help the situation, or my focus. I seem to remember yelling back at her the 3rd or 4th time she came back to distract me.

One of my favorites, I haven't watched it in a long time... I'm sure I saw it as a kid but remember it on an episode of mash. the whole camp was in the mess tent and the movie was My Darling Clementine. I finally bought the dvd a couple years ago, need to watch it again.
