That is a great idea to keep it contained.,,,,,too bad I didn't think of it at the time.

Or even after that when I planted peppermint near the chicken coop to keep the rats away, just a few years ago. It seems I never learn LOL

It's an easy way to contain the rhizomes and still enjoy the plant. I learned my lesson with mint 25 years ago, I had it everywhere.

Oregano and lemon balm spread the same way, one of our herb gardens are completely taken over by those.

I have oregano, sage, thyme, rosemary that were in an old canoe to keep them in check. Then last fall I moved them into tires with some rocks & plastic under them so hopefully it keeps them drained & contained.........if not, they may end up back in the canoe

Wasnt aware Lemon Balm spread like that. I started one small plant last summer in a small bed. I grew quite a bit before it froze. It has already started leafing out and had moved over 1/5 of the bed. I tore out quite a few roots and will remove more and try to insert something to seperate the LB from the rest of the bed.

Loaded 1.5 of the beds today, drug out and cut a bunch of smaller logs for all that. Still have a few logs left to cut up. And mroe to drag out. But once I got the trailer emptied I went and bought a load of compost.

Wife harvested maybe 10 stalks of asparagus this evening before it freezes.

Y'all, I don't mean to brag, but I've killed everything you've just mentioned. Yep, even mint. That said, I planted mint here (not our place ;) )
Have more tomatoes sprouted & savory just beginning.

Schutttt UP!!

How do you kill mint???

Got a secret for english ivy? Blackberry briars??? Morning Glory or Bindweed???? What about Dock??? Day roses?? Soapwort??? Oh, and Butterfly bush as well??

Yes, these things I've battled for over 23 years and now that I think about it......mint was a piece of cake in comparison. It's a wonder I have any yard or garden

Weeeell, you have to want it to grow and put it in a bad spot and accidently forget to water it sometimes. Blackberries are brutal! Now there's one even I couldn't kill. I would burn those down to the roots and they'd come back and produce an awesome crop. I don't know about the other stuff, I just figure we call the wrong things weeds. 😂

I've been trying to dig most of these out and have finally been getting ahead of the game......except dock. Too long of a tap root to dig in hard pack soil. As for the blackberry I think there is a main root that runs for miles and probably about that deep. So now I just dig the small ones and the others I'm trying to put down wood ashes to sweeten the soil PH, though I may need to get some lime. I guess they like it more acidic. IDK it's something I'm still working on

I HATE blackberries with a passion. Our neighbor lets them go rogue. They come over our fence and short out the Hotwire.

If I could grow blackberries, I would be so happy. Trying to get some of the only variety that has a chance to survive here. Blackberries aren't cold hardy. I found three plant plugs the other side of Canada.

The question is, whether or not they will get shipped and arrive before either they are dead or I am. I hope they sucker every bit as much as you all are whinging about. If they do thrive and sucker, I am going to go all Johnny Appleseed with them.

Me and the bears will love them if nobody else does.

I'll tell ya what.......if those berries don't show up or don't survive if they do........you can come dig mine and both my neighbors for free

Blackberrys have too much competition around here. There are 100's of species vines and thick foliage fighting for light.

A few thrive, aside from acres of kudzu. We have wild roses in kudzu! They'll rip you to pieces. I once fell into a large gully crossing a very large patch of kudzu. I was bleeding all over when I got out of that gully. It was filled with escaped roses, huge, tough thorns.

Vinegar works great on PI. I used it last summer, actually a vinegar and salt mix. I got a 30ft wide strip between my chicken pen and corral where PI covers everything. I'll hit it again this May. It didn't kill it all last time. But vinegar doesn't kill some plants. Pebble vine, beautyberry and buckthorn weren't phased a bit.

For blackberry, morning glory, wild rose, use Weed-B-Gone at double strength.
These plants need water or high humidity so poison them in the morning on days that it will be warm and dry.
If you use RoundUp be sure to cut the plant back first. The poison only works on plants that are actively growing and trimming the plant encourages it to grow.
