I slice up onions and put them in jar and top it off with extra white vinegar and give it a good shake and leave it in the back of the fridge for several weeks.

I use the liquid as a ready made salad dressing.

I also save the liquid from my sliced yellow peppers so that I can slice the whole ones and out them in that juice...yum!
 
I am cheap so I never spend money for no reason

I have no cellphone
I have no tv
When I need someone to do work for me its only the cheapest $ one
but he have to be the best deal best job/ no tax
When I get out of the house its only for grocery, hardware, fill gas,
I never go to restaurant
I always pay my bills on time meaning 2 days before due date

I have a very good mecanician that does my jobs no taxes but very low price
Same for my plumber cash no taxes
 
I am great with the money I have invested to provide me a return and the financial resources to live day to day. I am horrible with the money I transfer over to pay bills and buy things with. I don't piss it away, but I do forget to pay bills and make impulse purchases. Not things I don't really want or need, but things I want now.
 
I forgot to say I have a budget
I have files and a big book and a real paper wall calendar
I scratch it everyday and jump to the next day
I put each month things to do - things to pay

I always have plenty food dry and cans wet food
and always have cat litter boxes 49 lbs at least 6
and treats for those babies ;) for my Dog and Cats
They are my kids and my life after all

So I save 6% for no tax, plus an additional 10% just for being old. We also take a large ice chest and do our major grocery shopping there.

I have had a credit card & fuel card for many years before I retired in 2008 recently i cut them up , always paid them in full each month anyway , but the monthly charges keep going up each year even if not being used, it was a waste of money , I use my debit card now , so cannot spend if i do not have enough in it , being an equal opportunity person my wife has her own card ( which pays from her own pension ), i only use that if i really need to , yes I do pay for the items bought if she remembers to ask for the money😒when her statements arrives , no I do not pay towards the monthly fees as she has not thought to ask 😂

It takes about 13 gallons of gas when I take my truck and, and a little more, when I take the trailer. But I never come back with less than $1500 - $2000+ worth of stuff, and sometimes way more than that.
Our local building supply store is still 120 miles RT and they don't always have what I need. We have one small grocery store (40 mile RT) in our county, and they are limited in some of the things that we like.

I do kind of the opposite of what you do. I charge everything & use cash back, no fee credit cards. I don't like debit cards because they don't have the protection of a credit card. Two different years we got $1,500 back.
 
I guess I saved money but mostly I eliminate a pain. I went to Dollar Tree & saw they had individual pizza containers (like the kind you use for sandwiches). I bought 5 of them & we had pizza last night. It was a lot easier to find space for those individual pizza's in the refrigerator than putting the whole pizza box in it. They worked like a charm.

So you don't just leave the box on the counter and eat out of it for 2 days like I do? Probably a good idea.
 
Went to a food outlet store about 40 miles away. Hubby needed to get his equipment fuel tank filled and the price difference there more than paid for the trip. While he was filling the tank and his truck I went into the store and loaded the cart(s).

Beer - almost $5 cheaper per case....hubby stocked up for hunting season - LOL!
hand soap - .70 for a large pump bottle - got 2 cases
McCormick seasonings - $1 each
Paper towels - $4 per double roll 6 pack - case
albacore tuna - $1 for large cans - case
Pasta & rice roni - $1 each - 2 cases for deep pantry (we don't eat much of it, but it stores well)
chocolate cake - $1 for the entire cake - bought to take to a weekend BBQ at neighbors house - best by date 9/25
I also nabbed some produce at hugely reduced prices

We stopped at a tavern on the way home and spent some of our savings. I got a full rack-o-ribs (so I could take some home) and the serving size was ginormous! I took the vast majority of my order home and we will be having that for dinner tonight.....and we still won't be able to eat it all. So, I don't feel bad about treating ourselves since we don't eat out very often. Considering that it will cover 2 dinners (plus some) for both of us, it really wasn't that expensive.

I saved a lot of money yesterday. I was planning on buying brick to put up on the wall behind the wood stove in the fur shed. Using brick would have cost over $2,000. Instead of brick I bought some corrugated metal roofing for $64 dollars. Plus I bought a metal shear attachment for my cordless drill to cut the roofing, $47. So far it's looking pretty good.
 
I'll start off by saying that we carry zero debt except for what we charge each month & we pay that off every month. I'm old & retired & have lot's of time on my hands so I save by shopping for the lowest price, best quality items that we need/want. My best purchase lately just came in yesterday. We had a small 2 step ladder for years. We didn't use it much & honestly it wasn't that great (unsteady etc.). Well 6 months or so ago I was working on a ceiling fan & stepped wrong & did a face plant on our floor. (Face plant as in a face first landing). I didn't get "major" hurt but my nose & cheek were sore for months. I used that little ladder a couple weeks ago & almost the same thing happened, almost being I fell off of it but stumbled about 4 feet & remained on my feet (lucky). Time to replace it. I started doing research & found that those little suckers are expensive for what they are. I looked at some of the cheaper sites (China) & found what looked like just what I needed at a drastic savings (like a third the cost). It arrived yesterday & I have to say I ripped on it. Three steps that lock when you stand on it, a bar to hold on to & a weight limit of 800 lbs. I even love the texture of the steps because I'm generally barefoot.

When you need to replace something or just need something I'm not suggesting to go to China. What I am suggesting is that you do your research & sometimes think outside the box. If you need to buy something try to get the best quality item for the best price.
 
Out of the box thinking by my neighbor: Winter is coming & we feed birds, lots of birds. We generally go through about 30lbs of bird food per 2 days. He suggested we buy Milo (the little round seed that coming in mixed bags) from the local feed store. Normal bird seed costs $15.00 per 35lbs & it's mostly Milo. Milo at the local feed store is $11.00 per 50lbs. I bought 4 bags of milo & a 50lb bag of sunflower seeds for $24 & mixed them. The result was 250lb of bird food with about 4 times the sunflower seeds that I'd normally get. Long term that will save a lot.
