There are different ways of answering this.

Helium, for example, is the 2nd most abundant element in the Universe, but it's exccedingly rare on Earth?

Why?

Well, you know how a helium balloon rises because it's lighter than air?

To answer your question, helium will rise to the top of the atmosphere (there isn't actually a top to the atmosphere, but I'm calling it that as I want to make a point), and then get blown into space by the solar wind.

A second answer seems to have to do with an understanding of physics.

A lot of people believe that heavier weight falls faster that a light weight....but this isn't true.

Since a light weight and a heavy weight fall at the same speed, I would bet that your particlewpuld stay put.

Only in a vacuum. In air, you have buoyancy, air resistance and terminal velocity to take into account. (in a vacuum there is no terminal velocity) Larger particles of the same density will fall faster.

I know. I didn't go into depth on this, but one of the Apollo astronauts (on Apollo 17, I believe, but could be wrong) demonstrated this by dropping a hammer and a feather side by side on the Moon.

In a vacuum, all objects fall at the same speed of 9.8 meters/second^2.*

Gallileo demonstrated this by dropping weights off the Leaning Tower of Pisa, but--even before this--he beat the philosophers (who believed that heavier weights fall faster) at their own game.

An experiment--as a form of manual labor--was suitable only for the lower classes, and too crass and vulgar for the refined men of learning.

In short, Gallileo made a lot of his advances because he was either able to set aside his snobbery, or he didn't have it to begin with.

* I actually imagine that we can argue that there is an exception to this rule, but only if we go to bizarre lengths. If I dropped a large mass of degenerate matter (the same substance that makes up a neutron star), which might weigh a much as a mountain range in a mass the size of a bowling ball, it would fall faster in a vaccum than a one pound lead weight. This is because this mass would have it's own substantial gravitational field, so this mass may fall faster because it's pulling on the Earth as well as the Earth pulling on it.

I think we probably are living in a simulation. We're already progressing towards making simulated universes ourselves, through video games (and I play A LOT of video games lol, so I should know.)

Though they aren't perfect, (and neither is this one that we're living in; "glitches" happen all the time if you know how to recognize them.), but as our technology continues to accelerate, we'll be creating more and more advanced simulations to the point we can go into a simulation that's indistinguishable from this Universe.

And if we're able to do that, then the statistical odds of this universe ALSO being a computer simulation SKYROCKET. And chances are that the Source Universe that created this simulation, IS ANOTHER SIMULATION. And so on and so forth until you reach whatever the TRUE "source Universe" is which could literally be thousands of layers deep. Sooo...I wouldn't worry about it too much lol. XD

I have thought of a couple ways one might be able to escape the simulation though. The first and most obvious way to escape would probably be to DIE lmao, (and then wake up in the source simulation of this simulation and try to escape THAT one lol.) The second method that might be used to escape the simulation is way more complicated, but also less dangerous: Make the Simulators (whoever they are) super duper interested in you by doing something so unpredictable that it draws their attention to you, and from there you can try to establish contact to convince them of your sentience. Although this is assuming that we're digital constructs as opposed to lifeforms plugged into a computer, which I feel is far more likely, and that when we die, we wake in the Simulator Room and tell our fellow scientists what an amazing adventure we just had in the simulation lol, and then promptly go out into the world of our home simulation, which unfortunately probably SUCKS, like, A LOT lmao. It's either an extremely dangerous environment that makes a simulation look preferable, or it's an incredibly boring existence, which also makes the simulation look preferable. Chances are we'd opt to choose a new simulation, maybe on another planet as a different species, for example.

There is a different forum for religious discussions (Politics, Religion, and Conspiracy Theories) because those tend to get heated. This thread is meant to be a light hearted discussion and NOT a suitable place to attack other people's religious beliefs.
