I will have to show that to my son.
He's going down there in January for a month.
He won't be in Antarctica the entire time he'll be flying in and out from Christchurch, NZ.
He has always wanted to go there and he got the chance so he quickly volunteered.
He's gone to some interesting places while he been in the Air Force.

My wife and I worked in Antarctica from 1996 to 2003. We flew in and out of Christchurch too. Our work hitches ranged from 6 to 15 months on the "ice". I'm sure he'll spend some time in Gallaghers and Southern Exposure while down there, assuming they're still there anyway.

Cows got the insulation off the very top of the hose bib so it ruptured during the cold (got down below 20°). Left some pretty icicles on the fence though.

Unfortunately, when I was trying to shut off the water I lost my balance and fell on the pipes & broke them off.

The one with half the shutoff wing broken off came out of the insulation sleeve sticking up out of the ground.

That sure sounds like something that would happen to me!

One of my self-made disasters was when I was trying to fix a leaking shower diverter valve. It wasn't leaking much, but it's been installed in this house since the 80's. Probably time to replace that gasket, huh? I had replaced gaskets in other showers when they started leaking. Well, as I had my wrench on the valve's nut, which had jammed, I was trying to reposition myself to get a better angle to get it unjammed. My new positioning was a bit precarious, and when I started turning the nut again I kind of toppled over, but held onto that wrench like it was going to save me or something. It didn't. And the copper piping behind the valve got twisted into oblivion. This all happened a while ago, but since we still had two other functioning showers, I didn't get it fixed right away. So now I need to call a real plumber to fix the mess. He'll probably have to tear down the tiles around the valve, so then I'll have to hire a real greenboard/tile person to fix that mess. So a $2 gasket turns into probably a $1000 repair - and that's if I'm lucky.

Looking at your broken pipe pictures, that had to be one record-breaking acrobatic fall to create such mayhem. You should be proud!

My dog enjoying his bed n bones last night. He fell asleep snoring away by the fire.
Yesterday, as I dropped off homemade goodies to my neighbors, i included a lil care package to a new neighbor who moved in recently down my road. I have not met them yet and i heard they were a bit upset that they discovered we have mice out here. If you dont have cats ..you will have mice.
So, I gave them a goodie bag with homemade treats n a lil care package for the mice. Hopefully they have a sense of humor..
Lol..
I scored a few icicles off the roof at work too..

This defies explanation... unless the guy had a box of 90's and no 45's or brains were available, anywhere. He could have at least ran the pipe straight up then used one 90.

I would guess they used what they had available.

The Uncle I purchased half of my house from was a millwright that brought home fittings from the mill. He had boxes of fittings. When it came time to reroute a gas line I discovered that he had plumbed in 2 paths! It literally was a circular path. There many other odd cost saving things he had done. So many we made up the term "Uncle Jim-erisms" and The Princess adopted the phrase " Your relatives!"
