I placed a order with Amazon for three items. I checked the box to delay delivery which allows Amazon to deliver my order in one trip. Doesn’t make sense to me to make three trips.

My three items were delivered on the same day. One by Amazon, one by UPS and one by USPS.

Amazon just delivered a package of two thin tip permanent markers. Wouldn’t give me an option to get them with the other items unless I waited several weeks. Makes no sense

They are helping to support the USPS  ...
And to explain why first-class mail went from 3 days to 5 days.:(
Delivering a couple of Sharpies is far more important than delivering some silly payment-check on time.🤪
They are working the crap out of the mailman nowadays though.
In the old days it was a gravy-job. Work fast for 4 hours, get a full day's pay, and a fat guvment pension was waiting for you after 25 years.
Not anymore.
I have seen ours doing every other mailbox some days because he couldn't do them all in one pass.:(
Then he had to run the same route again an hour later.
He is not a happy guy.

I just got 2 bills that were mailed the 8th of December from usps.
Just use your new marker pens to change the date on them, you'll be fine!

I ordered something from Amazon that was cheaper on Amazon than at Walmart, but it arrived in a Walmart box on my doorstep. So I think Sams and Walmart are selling through amazon now. My mother used to get Crystal Light. I always hated it because there was some weird artificial aftertaste.

USPS here only has a couple of employees & they are overworked. I was told they are now offering $17/hr to new hires but they require a $300+ deposit for background checks when applying. They also don't offer any sort of benefits. Their drivers have to use their own vehicles and pay for their own gas to deliver packages to the rural areas (which does not extend to my area). They have a very hard time finding people who can pass the drug test.

One of the cats had diarrhea on the carpet in the hallway. It is nasty and sticky and smears around when I try to clean it. There are no electrical outlets in the hallway or the general vicinity that would allow me to plug in a vacuum & the mice chewed the charging cord for the rechargeable spot cleaner thing. So, I may need to take the cat to the vet to find out what is wrong with her, get her medicine, and also figure out how to clean that mess up.

My friend's gf has barely been back at work at the casino and she's already wanting to quit. They are giving her 8 hour shifts with no breaks. She barely lasted a couple weeks at her previous job. She can't get a job anywhere in town because she's burned too many bridges. Someone *might* be able to get her a job at a gas station near the casino but it's no guarantee. Unfortunately, as soon as she thinks she has another job lined up, she quits before it's a done deal and then can't make her car payments. She has no $ to contribute to bills so that leaves my friend hanging.

I had to haul the walmart box that was delivered yesterday in to the living room and then bathroom & it was heavier than I'd anticipated. I got winded and started having a bad headache. I had to get it out of the room because UPS dropped off the new lavatory-- with the box clearly on it's side despite being marked FRAGILE THIS WAY UP with arrows.
I managed to haul it in barely. No light in that room so I'll have to open it tomorrow and see if it is damaged. Shouldn't be but I'll want my brother's help lifting it to make sure I don't drop it.

When I inquired about my friend's property taxes (for which he never received notice in the mail) the clerk at City Hall told me he could pay the taxes by Friday before noon because that was when they would be closing. So, he went to pay his taxes this morning and saw this on the door (it was not on the door yesterday):

His taxes are $53 and some change but if he doesn't pay by the 31st of this month they charge $100 late fee per month. And the late fee starts on the 1st of Jan. I'm sure he can try to argue that they closed early without warning but they won't listen. The clerk said it's 1% late fee, but she lied about when they were open too and in the past it has always been $100. Pretty sure it's illegal for them to charge $100 late fee when it is greater than the value of the property. First time he found out about the tax it was 6 months in so he had to pay over $600 on a property that isn't even worth $60.

We have to put a road in on our property. WA state is ridiculous when it comes to permits (2nd to CA - having lived there as well). So now they are requiring us to get insurance from the Dept of Ecology because there might be some water drainage. This is for a 12 foot driveway access with 2 culverts.
We've been waiting since Oct for this permit. Today I had to go online and spent over an hour trying to navigate the stupid Dept of Ecology website to find out the exact longitude and latitude of our property.
The map didn't drag properly, and the website was super frustrating. We also have to put in a notice in a local paper about our driveway. Seriously how ridiculous is this? Like anyone cares about our 2 culverts and 12 foot of driveway?!

I wonder if he can pay online? We can pay our taxes online.

If you have a GPS you should be able to get that info. You may have to get into the menu to mark your position.
I finally got their website to work but I’m about 100 miles south right now so it wouldn’t work. Just dumb why we even need this. There’s no water to drain except in flood years!

Hiccups: there are 25 remedies. When I was teaching, the one I always had in the cupboard was sugar.
Cigarette always worked for me, but I quit smoking 30 years ago :). BTW, they have passed :)

Weedy, they charge a 3% fee to pay with credit or debit card (which is what it would have to be for online pay) but I don't know if they have the technology for online payments. They don't have any info about paying stuff online so I doubt they have it set up. I am wary of him giving any cc or debit card info to people there. Very likely his card # will be stolen and used.

If you use maps.google.com you can put in your address, find it, and then rightclick and it should tell you the exact coordinates of where you clicked.

Hiccups depends on the cause. I've found it can sometimes be from irritation involving the eustachian tubes. It can be a sign of an ear infection if it persists. Best way I found was to pinch my nose and hold my breath so I could feel the pressure on my eustachian tubes and hold my breath for at least 45 seconds. If I hiccupped during the countdown I would have to start again. Sometimes stretching your mouth open and moving your jaw around can help too.

DrJenner, it does sound dumb. Although, if you were in an area with other houses I could understand the need to notify people. My late elderly friend lived on a road with a dead end. The people at the end (who had a front driveway on another street) wanted to add a driveway from the back so their drug dealing son could come and go without being noticed as much. They were required to put in a culvert. Problem was, they were cheapskates and initially got a culvert that was too small. It meant that water was going to be backing up in the surrounding ditches and then flood people's yards. A city engineer got involved, my friend had to go to a town hall meeting (back when our town actually had public meetings) and objected to the culvert that was too small. They were mad at him for it, but he had good reason to not want his yard to flood. Sounds like this is not a concern in your area.

There is still some mystery leak under my sink. I can't figure out where it's coming from and my back doesn't bend well enough for me to investigate thoroughly. I can't see or feel where any water is coming out (but I can't reach too far in) but I can hear dripping and see water on the bottom of the cabinet. I'll have to bring my friend in to check but I'm not sure when he's off work and if he can have someone watch the baby long enough for him to come out;

Clear out the bottom of the sink and line the bottom with paper towel...

Check it regularly then follow the drip back to it's source.

Water leaks unchecked will destroy. It takes down mountains.

Do you mean inside the sink or under the sink? My brain is shutting down on me.

Although I completely understand and agree with these complaints not everything comes from an actual Amazon distribution center. People who sell out of their home or small business through Amazon can't put their item in a big box with the stuff coming from a distribution center. When Amazon gives us the option to include everything in one package it seems like it would make sense but apparently it can't always work out that way. I guess they could alter the Amazon website to explain every delivery option or detail but then the check out page would have so much stuff to read and sort through it would end up looking like a CVS receipt.

I saw a news headline for a violent habitual rapist being set free again. I knew this years ago while still working as a cop, and probably knew it before becoming a cop, but our court system is a pathetic joke and a waste of time and money.

https://nypost.com/2022/01/05/idaho-sex-offender-pirate-sentenced-for-burning-disabled-woman/
This sick and disgusting waste of life is out and about again to torture, rape, and kill more women. Who knows what else he does that he hasn't been caught for, or how many other victims he has out there that he wasn't arrested for.

"He had been arrested in 2010 for a rape six years earlier in Redding. He served four years in prison for that crime and upon his release in 2015 moved to Alaska.
There, he was accused of holding a woman captive for five weeks at a remote cabin and repeatedly torturing and sexually assaulting her. When the alleged victim died of a drug overdose shortly before the trial was to start, the charges were dismissed.
DNA evidence in that case, however, linked Pirate to the 2004 rape of a disabled woman in a Las Vegas motel room. He pleaded guilty to reduced charges and was released in late 2019."

"Pirate, 43, was accused of burning a woman with disabilities in November 2009, the Idaho State Journal reported.
He had met the victim on a dating app and later stayed in her home, allegedly burning her multiple times and flicking ashes in her mouth, the Journal said.
He also shoved his foot in her mouth and held her head with his hands, the victim alleged."

I have said it many times and I will say it again, the only real justice these victims will get is if a family member or loved one administers a severe dose of street justice.

When I was a cop back around the housing boom between about 2006 to 2008 on a daily basis I would have to start every morning going to construction sites to take reports for stolen copper wiring, stolen appliances, stolen tools, just about anything of value. The thieves were even taking the time to pull the wiring out of the framed walls and would strip an entire house clean of the copper wiring, sometimes several houses every night. I got to know all the contractors pretty well and even with paid security supposedly doing patrols stuff was still getting stolen. Most of these construction sites were far away from everything else so I started (sort of jokingly) suggesting they spend the night on the roof of a home with a rifle and shooting the thieves, saying if they had a deep hole already dug with a backhoe they could dump the bodies and cover them up and they would never be found. They all said they wished they could but unfortunately the good guys rarely ever want to cross that line.

Moral of the story, The courts RARELY punish criminals, and even if they have a solid case they find a reason to plea bargain the case to something petty and the criminal walks away looking innocent and blaming the cops for making stuff up.

Inresponse, the "justice" system really aggravates me. Innocent people get locked up while guilty people get let out. They have zero tolerance on some of the minor non-violent crimes but rapists and murderers often get zero jailtime or less time than a shoplifter. There was a local retired cop here who raped and murdered a woman 20+ years ago. They finally got around to running DNA on it last year. They indicted him, arrested him, released him on bail, and then suddenly the rape kit & evidence disappeared from the holding locker so they dropped the charges. They also let a guy in my area get away with murder TWICE. First time they claimed his victim committed suicide (even though his story kept changing & he'd caught the victim having an affair with his wife & taken him out in the woods-- claimed they were hunting but victim wasn't wearing his hunting gear). Victim was shot with the killer's shotgun. I remember the day they found the body. Forensic van was out on the side of the road. I saw the DA out there laughing and clowning around with the cops. Not the way someone should be behaving at a scene where someone was found dead. Five years later the same perp "accidentally" shot a woman out in the woods. Claimed his gun just happened to go off-- while they were in the wildlife refuge (no hunting area). They only charged him with having a firearm while under the influence and for hunting in a restricted area. Did not even charge him with shooting her.

As a followup to a previous gripe of mine about the city extorting money out of people on property taxes: My friend and I both filed complaints with the tax assessors office about the city charging $100 per month in late fees on property tax (even when the property tax was less than $100). The legal amount they could charge was 1% of the property tax. Never heard back from the assessor, but when my friend went to pay his taxes they are down to 1% late fee now. I guess they may have gotten in trouble.

Four dog park visits today, three were great. Third dog park visit had an unneutered dog running around with no owner in sight. Dog kept interacting with other dogs in a way that got everyone to turn and see which dog is being attacked. Three dogs involved in the first incident. Two owners were in there, pulling their dogs out to protect them. Third owner, owner of attacking dog, missing in action. For the second time in my life at a dog park, this dog park, I yelled, "Will the owner of this dog come and get it." No response. I said to someone, "If I go up and put a leash on that dog and start walking it out the gate, I'll bet the owner will show up." I looked at the dog and it has no collar, so no required city license, and no special license for this particular breed, and no special license for being an unneutered male over 6 months of age. "Maybe I should call 311 and ask for animal control to come and take this dog."

Dog is a bully, going from one dog to another, intimidating growling and behavior and causing the dogs to try to get away from it.

Incident two, and everyone turns again to see which dog is being attacked and by whom. Everyone is hearing it, and it is one of those scary kinds of sounding attacks, the kind where you wonder if a dog is going to die. Owner of attacked dog is there, separating his dog from attacking dog. Attacking dog's owner is missing in action. Again, I want to call 311 and ask for animal control. Up walks a younger woman, on her phone, with a pronged collar, and puts it on the dog. Dog is still trying to go after other dogs. Owner HAS to know her dog is a menace. I am so irritated seeing this go on I say to her, "Take your unneutered dog and get out of here." She began to act like her dog. Surely she knew what had been going on with her dog. Surely she could see how her dog was behaving. But maybe for her, there is nothing wrong with her dog attacking dog after dog. She told me I was so rude. Big deal! This is not the first time a foreigner has told me that. This must be the ultimate insult in some cultures, to tell someone who is telling you something you don't want to hear, that they are rude.

Fortunately for me, my alarm goes off, and it is time for me to leave, so I do. As I am walking out others are telling me that I was right. One woman tells me that it isn't illegal to have an unneutered dog in a dog park, but the dog was causing problems. Well, it actually is illegal to have an unneutered male in that city. All male dogs are to be neutered by the time they are six months, or have a special permit (and tag, and paid for), because there is a thing about waiting until they are older. This woman could have been ticketed for a few $100 if animal control had showed up. She was too busy on her phone and hiding in a corner so she didn't have to take responsibility for her dog.

Some people shouldn't have pets!
This is absolutely the truth! I could write a book just about that topic and all the wrongs done to dogs alone. Same woman who tried to tell me that it wasn't illegal said that it isn't bad dogs, but bad dog owners. In this situation, she was absolutely right. If owner had had her dog neutered and was paying attention to it and removed it after first attack, then she would have been somewhat responsible.

Not really a rant but an observation:
Hubby used to always plow the lane because we're the next to last on the lane and he had to get out and go to work.
Well, now he's retired and he hasn't plowed the lane since we don't have to get out for any reason and no one else has even attempted to try to clear the lane.
I haven't even heard anyone out shoveling their walkways or paths to their outbuildings.

There are a lot of bad animal owners in my area. So sad for the animals!!

Funny how those things work😉🤔
