I had a blue cross plan that never paid a thing until I called them and complained. Then they would say it should have been paid and they went ahead and paid the bill.
A guy that I worked with said he had the same problem so I told him to call them. He did and they paid him back for all their errors.
All of them will try to 'not pay' to see if they can get away with it.
It costs them nothing to try, and they save megabux when they succeed.
I won't go on a rant about insurance companies (I despise them), because people will think there are 2 @zannej 's here.

So, issue #2... Talking with some random kids on the shoulder of the road this evening. Psychotic neighbor woman comes out to instruct us that we should move to my lawn for the conversation. Arguments ensue and I asked my wife as well as the woman to call the police as well as the property owner and his daughter. Of course, no one did. I expect they will at some point even though we were in the roadway which obviously is public. Even the shoulder is as well. What the F ever. Bring it on. I am over it. I am done with the BS. I have dealt with this issue for years. Asked my wife 2 simple things; call the police, and call the daughter of the neighbor. As is typical, the wife did not back me up (call the police or the daughter). I am done with all of it. Just done.

Supervisor, rant away! I had someone on another forum ranting in DMs about banks. When my brother called the 24hr service number over his account being emptied the bint on the end of the line told him he had to call Discover Bank to see if it was a legitimate transaction. He told her numerous times "I don't have/use Discover Bank! There is no reason for them to EVER take anything out of my SAVINGS account". She basically accused him of lying. He's only ever withdrawn from his checking account and only time he took from savings was to go to checking. Fortunately, bank employees listened to him in person. But, he will see whether or not they accept the fraud claim.

Banks are closed Monday- is it a holiday? I can never keep track.

Blue Cross is particularly bad about not paying stuff. My mother had to keep calling them to get them to pay. They do pay eventually, but they will resist at first. Right now they aren't covering the 80% they are supposed to cover on her medical supplies. She's resisting going to the appointment to learn how to use her new blood sugar meter. I think she really just doesn't want to keep track of it because she lies about it a lot. She doesn't want something that can prove her wrong. Her insurance was supposed to cover it but didn't though.

Rant for the day-- stupid Samsung TV isn't working. It resisted working the other day but finally came on. This time it blinked a red light (usually some sort of code) repeatedly but now there is no light at all and the damn thing does not have a manual power button. I looked for one but there isn't one. Lack of buttons is one of my pet peeves.

Oh, it has one alright.
But it is well hidden in the one place you won't look, underneath behind the nameplate. Here's a pic of a mirror showing the one on my Samsung:

Tested - working.
BTW, do not underestimate the ability of the right power-fluctuation being able to scramble the electronic brain of anything with one. Sometimes they have to be depowered for up to 15 minutes for the capacitors to drain. (And I know you love capacitors :D)
I learned this the hard way when our main fridge stopped defrosting. Fan was growling loud, grinding on the frost.
The guy tore it apart and it was solid ice. He checked it and said it wasn't working. He defrosted it and checked all the parts - all good. Put it back together and presto, it worked!:woo hoo:
I only have to reboot it about every 10 months or so.
Unplug it for 15 minutes, plug it back in.
I'm such a pro!!!:great:

In the TMI department for @zannej , yes you can run your Samsung TV without a remote... if you find the 'magic button'...
See below:

Mine doesn't have those that I could find. Maybe there is a panel that has to open to access it? I turned my TV around to look at the back and the red light in the corner came back on. I ran and got the remote, and the light turned off. I then jiggled the tv side to side and used the remote. It's working again.

New rant: The bank repo'd my friend's gf's car. It was a long time coming. She didn't make much of an effort to pay it and didn't have it insured anymore. But the gripe is that they didn't leave a contact # with the police, they kept hanging up when my friend called to find out about getting their stuff out of the car-- car seat, and a bunch of loose items. He finally got through to them and they said they hauled it down to Lake Charles and that he would have to pay them some sort of fee to get the property back-- which is absolutely illegal. I sent him links to the state laws on the matter. They HAVE to return the property that was inside the vehicle and they are not allowed to charge any money for it. They can't make him pay storage/impound fees to get property out of it. But the gf was having such a huge fit over it. She won't be able to go to work without a lift if she gets a job again. She also gets stir crazy. She hates being home with the baby (so she often sends him to her adopted mother's house). At least she was about out of gas & hadn't refueled so they didn't lose out on that. We told my friend to let her set up her Onlyfans page and show pictures of her feet. If she shows more, it doesn't matter bc its not like she's faithful to him anyway.

Anti-rant: McDonalds chocolate shakes are sooo good on a hot day.

Back in the day, way back when I was 19 and 20 yrs old, I worked at a bank at the car repo desk. I heard every excuse in the book, and heard everything about what was in the car that they needed. One time it was bags of raw meat in the trunk. Now who would do that? Another was their mother's ashes.
The point is....if you owe money on a car, you have to pay it. Otherwise it gets repossesed. It is not the fault of the repossesor what you decided to leave in the car. If you knew the car was going to be picked up, why would you leave your stuff in it? Sorry, no sympathy, Zannej. I worked the other end of that one.

Re: worked the other end...

About 30 years ago I specialized in disk drives used my mainframes. I would save data loss if possible and recover lost data if possible. I developed a callous when it came to data loss. Didn't back it up? Your bad. A few short stories.

1
An associate reported what he did on 3rd shift. After a rebuild the customer put a back-up disk in a drive and they were standing behind the cabinet when they noticed brown dust blowing out of the back. Customer asked what was that ? My buddy said "data". 🤣

2
After fixing some problems with a pair of identical disk drives the customer breathed a sigh of relief when the system was back working. Only then did I ask what was on the disks that he didn't want to loose. He said "ten years of dead rats" (toxicology studies)

Sometimes I feel as though I am in the twilight zone... Days later, spoke with the kids and all is well. WE even shared a laugh. So, on to the zone; the aforementioned daughter of the property owner called my wife asking that we pick up her father from the hospital some 40 miles away. He is to return home since even though he needs to have his gallbladder removed, he has an infection and they cannot operate.

The Psychotic neighbor woman is getting paid to care for this man yet the daughter calls us. All good, we brought him home. Woman is there with an attitude. All on camera she displays said attitude. I simply chuckle. I know this was a choice of the daughter as they could find no one else worth hiring. My wife is already running a business. She is still angry with me having yelled about the disrespect received. The head continues to spin...

Anyway, not a rant actually. Helped an elderly man. Alone. Someone who needed assistance from the community. Still very much feels like the twilight zone.

Sadly, I am complaining to those on this forum with far greater issues than mine but I did want to revisit this.

She didn't know her car was going to be picked up. There was no letter of warning beforehand and she is mentally ill and does not live in reality. In her world she does no wrong and things are supposed to happen the way she wants. Her other car wasn't paid on in over a year before it got repo'd. This one was only a few months. Plus my friend had some stuff in the car too (not sure why). My beef isn't about them being dumb enough to leave stuff in a car that could be repo'd but the repo company illegally wanting money for them to get their stuff out of it. Two wrongs don't make a right.

Ben, I've made backups and extra backups only to have ALL of them fail/go bad. That's the kind of luck I have. I had it on two HDDs as well as a portable drive and all of them died around the same time. No idea why.

Guardian, that was nice of you. Sorry you had to deal with the angry women.

People know when they are behind and they get plenty of notices. They know their vehicle is going to be repossessed, but I think are in denial.
One time, I worked for a few days with a man who came out to North Dakota to do the actual repo of a few cars. In actuality, doing repo work can be very dangerous. He liked to work with a woman, because it made him less noticeable, and fit in better. I was referred to him by a friend. I've known people who want, want, want, and over extend themselves with their wants. Also, many people want the latest and the greatest, and therefore more expensive. In my opinion, you have to start with a cheaper vehicle, and work your way up, or find an older reliable vehicle, and drive it until the wheels fall off. Some people do not get it that you can have an older vehicle and maintain it, and keep it going.

Hear, hear!!! Says the guy with the 20-year-old, 4-banger Camry, lol. It ain't no looker, and it sure ain't no sleeper, lol, but it gets the job done, and I pull regular maintenance on it to see that it keeps rolling. Wheels aren't likely to fall off, not with the lug nuts tightened, but I'm sure this rig will eventually die under me on the road, probably from a blown head gasket... at which point it won't be worth repairing and I'll be looking for another used car or pickup.

P.S. 225,000 miles and counting!!! WOOHOO!!!

I've got you beat. Older Camry, 6 cylinder. It has been paid off for many years. My expenses are all about maintenance. It has many miles on it, but I transport dogs and wouldn't want leather seats, and other things that could be damaged. My console cover is shredded from dogs coming up between the seats to get their treats when they get in the car. They learn early on that this happens when they get in the car, so it helps to get them in and has helped more than one dog get over their dislike of car rides.
I could have a newer car, but insurance, license fees and others all increase with newer vehicles.

Excellent point, and one that all folks should heed, especially kids and adults on limited incomes. Those fees & expenses add up quickly! Frankly, I have NEVER purchased a brand-new new vehicle (except for one dirt bike), I have ALWAYS bought a car or a pickup truck secondhand... when I had a choice, from one owner who took care of the vehicle. Older folks tend to take better care of their vehicles, so I try to find a used car or truck without too much mileage, something used regularly but not abused, sold by an older driver who is letting it go for whatever reason. There are many good deals out there for a buyer with cash, that's another point worth making: save up money for a vehicle, and skip the credit scene. If I can't afford to pay cash for a vehicle, then I don't buy it, period. But when I do, I own it free & clear, which is important to me. Maybe because I'm old school, lol, and that philosophy helps in buying ALL things, with the possible exception of a home: if I can't afford to pay cash for it, then I don't buy it. It's SO easy to become enslaved in debt if you go the credit route... guess I'll stop here, otherwise I'll be on my soapbox all afternoon, lol.

KARENs!

A young couple with a couple if kids had to move with short notice. They packed everything they own in a horse trailer and started to move in across the street. The horse trailer is parked in the side yard while they settle in.

Karen called the township and then comes the threatening letter. After all parking in the grass is such a bad thing.

I talked to the guy that owns the rental property and suggested they park on the street in front of my place.

If they take me up on my offer the trailer that isn't visible from Karen's place now will be legally parked in view from her place.

In your face Karen!

My daily driver is a 17 YO Camry. Still going strong. The truck is 14 YO. Much cheaper to keep them running than make car payments every month. Insurance is cheaper too.

Oh, I told my friend repeatedly he shouldn't help his gf get a car bc she always wanted something she couldn't afford. The insurance premiums were higher than the car note. Told the girl she should get something cheaper but she wouldn't listen. She *had* to have a certain car and my friend was dumb enough to help her get it. That's on him. She actually asked me to help with her car notes. I told her "hell no. I told you to get a cheaper car-- and you quit your job". She has a habit of getting expensive things and then quitting her job or getting fired. She just walks off and doesn't give notice. She's been fired twice and quit at least 5x. She is blacklisted from being hired anywhere in town now. Also blacklisted from the casino. She's too young to have such a crappy job history. Nowadays they don't seem to send notice about stuff. They just repo. She also let people without insurance drive her car and I told her what a terrible idea it was and how she should never let anyone not on the insurance drive her car. But again, she doesn't listen. We all told her she would hate being a mother but she just *had* to have a baby and now she hates him & tries to get away from him as much as possible.

Back to the work thing: My friend is not physically capable of working fulltime due to all of his health issues so his work hired another guy who was supposed to do most of the work and my friend would come in to do technical stuff when necessary. It was supposed to lighten his load. So, turns out the guy who they hired lied on his application about having the knowledge. He didn't know jack squat. My friend trained him for months. Guy would still have to call him to ask how to do stuff. Once the training was complete, guy caught a bad attitude. No call no show. Higher ups got on his case about it so he started coming in again but not to work. He clocks in, goes out to his truck to get high, comes back in, and sits around blazed out of his mind doing nothing. Friend now has to do this guy's job plus his own. Every time he comes in, none of the work the guy was supposed to do has been done. And he has to do the job of casino employees (he works for an independent company) bc they don't do their jobs either. He's responsible for keeping the arcade games and ticket machines running. Casino employees are supposed to collect tickets, stock prizes, etc. He's been having to stock prizes and collect tickets and do everything the other people are getting paid to do.

I get when people have too much to do and are overwhelmed-- like in a fast food place when they are trying to keep up with orders-- but its a fairly slow pace and these people don't have that excuse. They are just lazy. They are getting paid well enough to actually do their jobs but it seems there are so many lazy people. But the ones who aren't lazy are the ones who get griped at the most.

I'd guess she is used to being bailed out whenever she over extends herself. She sounds like a spoiled wanter. She wants what she wants, but cannot afford. She is probably manipulative to get people to do what she wants. She is the complete opposite of me.

What is kennel dip?

It is so damn hot here. I had to go outside and spend some time out there and my clothes were completely soaked through with sweat. So hot the dogs wouldn't even go out. They were watching me from my bedroom window. LOL.

5 of the cats are spread out in my room on various surfaces/objects and Jelly (the dog) is passed out with his face on a sweaty shirt I took off.

People should only get a car if they can afford it and all that goes with it (gas, insurance, maintenance). If they get one and don't pay for the things, then it should be taken away by the bank, because cars aren't given for free. I love the excuse..."How am I supposed to get to work?" Having the job didn't help them pay for the car, obviously.
Solution: find a job that can be walked to or biked to. I did that in my younger years. Have convinced the grandkids that having a job does not come with a free driver.

In 1997 I stopped going to movies, about the same time I gave up on corporate radio.
In 2002 I put a pick axe through my TV.
In 2021 I gave up on talk radio, I'm getting sick of the internet (again!)
I'm one violent temper tantrum and a tank of gas from going back to the creek and stringing up concertina wire and holding perimeter until I see the mushroom clouds sprout on the horizon!
Until then I'll be petting the feral cats and romancing a female Sasquatch! Maybe my alien girlfriend will come back and take me home as a pet!

Same goes for kids and houses!

Where I live you can't safely bike or walk to work. No sidewalks, no public transportation, no bike lanes (people will run over someone on a bike). People can't always get jobs nearby. It's a catch 22 though. And yeah, she's manipulative. She learned it from her adopted mother. That one is a narcissist who has mastered manipulation. The adopted mother was abusive but she lets the woman watch the baby even though he comes back ill EVERY time he goes over. Hag was giving him Benadryl when he was too young to take it.

I agree that people shouldn't buy things they can't afford. Sadly, a lot of essential things are no longer affordable. The markup on vehicles is insane.

The bank returned my brother's stolen money to his account. The place that took his IRA is now letting him view it and let him know how to roll it over to the credit union.

My gripe for the day is the corrupt mayor continues his crime spree. I mentioned he owns a lawn service. He had the city give his company a contract and he passed a city ordinance that if people don't have their lawns mowed within 3 days they will be fined. If they owe taxes on the property they have 3 days to pay or the city takes ownership of the house. He gets all of the profits from the lawn company, but the city pays his employees. He's recently started a scam where he sends his lawn company to mow people's lawn (without any warning or request) and bills them. If they don't pay, he threatens them with additional fines saying they owe the city. So, this morning my friend saw them about to mow the lawn of a friend across the street. He knew the friend had hired someone to mow the lawn later in the day & went over to say "Don't cut their lawn, they already hired someone". So later that day someone from City Hall called my friend (not sure how they got his number) and informed him that the people across the street owed $47 in taxes and if they didn't pay up the house would be auctioned off within the week. They shouldn't be talking to someone other than the owner and they have not sent the owners any written notice.

This town is so incredibly corrupt. I'm glad I live out in the sticks bc I would probably catch a charge for punching the mayor.

Our city hires two girls who drive the city for two months, and if THEY determine your yard is not free of weeds, currently mowed, brush that needs trimming, etc, they will send you a $75 fine. They will notify you by inserting a notice with your water bill. Problem is if you are on "auto-pay", you don't receive any notice. If the $75 is not paid within one month, they place a $75 lien on your house. Last month, they fined 2200 families. This too is a total scam, especially when we are only allowed to water your property twice a week.

Wow. Never heard of stuff like that. Although I have heard that some farms can be fined if they don't take care of a musk thistle problem.
Our dirt road leveling (after rain, snow) and our ditch mowing are taken care of by our township. Taxes take care of that. Mostly, though, if someone is mowing on their property, they usually will just mow their own ditch row by the road. We lived in a cul de sac in California with an HOA when our kids were little. I'd never want to live like that again.

Grits. . .Grits is what you were going to say right?

Probably not, but that works for me.
At bible study a couple weeks ago, a woman mentioned how when she gets scared, such as someone cutting her off in traffic and she has to slam on her brakes, she seems to automatically say, "Oh, sh**." She says it and then wishes she hadn't. In the drive from her home to bible study that day she had a few incidents of people scaring her by cutting her off, so she said this a few times in that drive.
I have this happen to me. Last week a guy on a bicycle pulled out in front of me and didn't even look. I had to slam on my brakes, and what came out of my mouth? "Oh, sh**!"
