Just confirmed, our guys are supposed to be getting on a plane around lunch tomorrow and will be back at MIA around 5PM. If they have the energy, we'll probably be hearing stories until early morning. OR someone may insist they crash for 12 hours, and we'll just have to wait. That would probably be the more humane path to take.

TACTICS, STRATEGY AND OPERATIONS
So far the Russian military operation in Ukraine has been a reconnaissance in force preceded by the destruction of the supplies and headquarters of the Ukrainian Armed Forces by standoff weapons. The object being to suss out where the Ukrainian forces are, to surround them, to check existing Russian intelligence against reality and, at the same time, destroy known headquarters, air and naval assets, supplies and ammunition depots. And, perhaps, there was the hope that the speed and success (Russian/LDPR forces dominated an area of Ukraine about the size of the United Kingdom in the first week) would force an early end (aka recognition of reality).
At the moment they are readying for the next phase. The long column that so obsessed the “experts” on CNN is the preparation for the next phase. And that is this: “You didn’t get the hint, so now we have to hit you”. The fact that the column has been sitting there indicates that the Russians know they have complete air superiority. Secondly it is a message to the Ukrainian armed forces that it’s over, give up. (And one should never forget that the Russians/Soviets have always been the best at strategic deception, so who knows what’s actually there versus what the images show?)
As far as I can see they’ve created three cauldrons (encirclements). Probably the most important one is the one around Mariupol where the main concentration of Azov, the principal nazi force, is. Another is being established around the main concentration of the Ukrainian Armed Forces facing LDPR. And there appears to be another developing to the east of Kiev. A super cauldron of all three is visible. The nazis will be exterminated; the ordinary Ukrainian soldier will be allowed to go home. The nightmare question is how many ordinary Ukrainians will be free to choose.
The dilemma for the Russians is city fighting. They do not want to have a Raqqa in which every building is destroyed, every person killed and solitudinem is declared to be pax. They know that at the end of the day there will still be Ukrainians and they will want them to be friends: Washington can create solitudes far away, but Moscow cannot create them nearby. This greatly complicates their problem when they try to clear the nazis out of Mariupol knowing that the nazis are using the city’s people as hostages. The same problem exists, to a lesser degree, in the other cities of Novorossiya. My guess is they will surround most cities and hope that Zelinsky & Co come to their senses. But I fear that the Mariupol battle will be horrible.
There are some slight indications, on Day 8, that Ukrainian negotiators are realising that neutrality is something they have to agree to. I also see the realisation creeping up on the American side.
The ultimate Russian aim is not visible. By this I mean the ultimate strategic aim; we know what the grand strategic aim is. Are the Russians planning to create a Novorossiya which will be independent or are they aiming to create a Novorossiya which will be a bargaining chip with rump Ukraine? I think the answer depends on what Zelinsky and Kiev (and the locals) decide. In about a week’s time, an independent Novorossiya will exist and Russia will continue to have the hammer.
I would expect large-scale surrenders of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to begin in the next 24/48 hours (Chechen forces already claim one and have an impressive collection of “trophies” to prove it). A significant proportion of the Ukrainian Armed Forces is now surrounded and, as is usual (vide Sun Tsu) the Russians have left them an exit.
GRAND STRATEGY
The impotence of the EU and NATO is clear to everyone (Well, OK, not anyone on CNN, or in the US Congress or in the halls of power in the West. But they are not the whole world). In this respect, I recommend watching Riyadh – Abdul Aziz was very good at seeing how the wind blew and one can assume his descendents are too.
The 97, or whatever they were, fighter planes that were excitedly announced, are obviously not coming. The no fly zone can’t be “declared”. The Chechens have picked up a lot of MANPADs that NATO supplied. All that NATO support will get you is destruction when you fight the war it suckered you into and an extra special Christmas card when you’re defeated and ruined.
We are seeing the collapse of post Cold War triumphalism, “end of history”, “unilateralism” and all the rest of it. Reality is biting, and biting hard. All you have to do is watch CNN’s parade of talking heads and “experts” speculating about how crazy Putin is: they don’t understand, therefore he must be nuts. For the West, as it has been, it’s over. The confusion, the bologna, the boasting, the hysteria, the bans: the West has nothing left in the locker.
Pour Russian vodka down the toilet, fire a singer and director, change the name of a drink or a salad, ban cats or trees, sanction a Russian plutocrat and steal his yacht, wear a blue and yellow t-shirt. Pathetic. And don’t, under any circumstances, allow a Russian outlet to tempt the sheeple with “disinformation”. Just like the USSR but stupider. And who thought stupider was even possible?
Judo is about deception and using the opponent’s strength against him. Putin, the judoka, has judoed the West into suicide.
Put your money in our banks, we can confiscate it; put your assets in our territory, we can steal them; use our money and we can cancel it; put your yacht in our harbour, we can pirate it; put your gold in our vault, we can grab it. That is a lesson that will resound around the world.
A naked illustration that the “rules-based international order” is simply that we make the rules and order you to obey them. In 2 or 3 weeks everybody in the world who is on the potential Western hit list will have moved his assets out of the reach of the West. Xi will permit himself a small smile.
As to Western sanctions against Russia, I think there’s a very simple answer to that: last week 1000 cubic metres of gas cost $1,000; today it’s over twice that. Next week it certainly won’t be cheaper. Ditto for aluminum, potash, titanium, wheat. Russian airlines lease their planes; now what? Russian rocket motors. What the people in the West do not understand is the ruble is the currency the Russians use inside the country but the price of oil and gas is the Russian currency outside the country. I am astounded at the stupidity: they’re cutting their own throats and destroying their own economies.

According to certain reports, Turkish President Erdogan is smuggling hundreds of Islamist terrorists from Idlib into Ukraine to fight against Russia and Kadyrov's soldiers, which will result in a bloodbath. Funny. But here's my take -- few, if any, really know what's going on over there. The people there don't know other than what they're coming in contact with. None of us know what's "off camera". None of us is privy to 24-hour feeds from everywhere.
Therefore, one must imagine human nature and construct the likely.
Russia gains very little by annexing the Ukraine. It's an impoverished, failed state. Saying Putin just wants it to make Russia bigger is Kool Aid for the simple-minded.
Soros, Schwab, Clinton, and every other NWO freak-show is demanding the USA fight Russia.
Sounds like the news coming out of Russia is as valid as the news coming out of the Ukraine -- because the motives aren't what they're saying they are.

If Russia annexes Ukraine, they gain control over the "Breadbasket of Europe", the largest titanium reserves in Europe, the second largest coal reserves in Europe, one of the largest manganese reserves in Europe, one of the largest iron ore reserves in the world, 20% of the world's graphite reserves, large uranium deposits, over a trillion cubic meters of natural gas reserves, 3.7 billion tons of shale oil reserves, and an unencumbered corridor to Europe through which to sell oil and gas,
Ukraine actually has a lot of importance.
Strategically: It increases Putin's control of the Black Sea by 100%. Instead of controlling Eastern ports, he also has all of the northern ports.
It gives him a place to stage a missile attack on Poland, Romania, Turkey. Keep in mind scale here. The distance from Kyiv to Berlin is the same as from Shreveport La (on the Eastern border of Texas), to Ciudad Juárez on the Western border of Texas. IF he continues into Moldova, he may try to also take back Romania and Bulgaria, giving him almost total control of the Black sea.
Putin is a Pan Slavist. He has said as much over the years and no one was listening but, made it abundantly clear in the "historical" ramble of a speech he made last month...where everyone thought where on earth did he get this history from? IF you know the historical culture, you know exactly what he was talking about.

Over 20,000 deposits of 194 known minerals can be found in Ukraine.
The world bank classifies Ukraine as a middle class country. Corruption however, interferes with prosperity.

Every time it's said that a nation has huge reserves of something, they end up being found elsewhere in even greater abundance. Saudi Arabia was once believed to have the largest oil reserves. Then Russia. Then the Gulf of Mexico. Then Alaska. Then Venezuela.
Same goes for copper, gold, and magnesium. Larger reserves were found in Nevada at a time when it was thought the largest reserves were in South America.
The "large reserve" story usually translates to "We can strip-mine this place with impunity." Once the value of the commodity rises, they start finding it elsewhere.
And just about everywhere has resources. But Ukraine comes with a lot of bad history and a lot of bad blood. Russia, like the Middle East, could prosper with just selling oil.

Last night, before we fell asleep, the hubby and I had a little discussion.
We agree that things are headed the wrong way here. We also agree that there is little that can be done AT THIS POINT, to stop what has already been put in motion. We will be headed into WWIII. It will not be a traditional war with troops and payloads.

I have followed the goings on with The Club of Rome starting back in the 1990’s, which was the precursor to the WEF (same people, different name). I very much see the bigger picture and have for a long time. It is why I started prepping many, decades ago.
I read a phrase yesterday that I found quite astute. “When you have been dealt out of the card game why not just turn over the table?”
Putin has been dealt out now. He WILL turn over the table.
Nothing I can do or say on line will have any effect except to distract me from what I CAN DO to make effective changes to prepare, as best I can, me and mine, for what is most likely to come down that sewer pipe hanging over our heads ready to dump.
Fighting amongst ourselves as to who’s fault it is, who started it or trading nasties, is in my view counterproductive to our individual wellbeing at this point. It is akin to being on a sinking ship and putting holes in some of the lifeboats so the people you don't like will drown. Not my cup of tea.
I prep in part because I want the human race to be better; to live with honor, integrity and virtue and to be worthy of our God given freedoms. I can not MAKE others worthy, I can only try to do so myself and hope that others make similar choices.

“To accept the things I cannot change...Courage to change the things I can, and THE WISDOM to know the difference.” Best known for its role in AA.
I am not an alcoholic, but throughout my fifty some years, the logic of that phrase applies so much to life in general and has kept me focused on things that matter because they are in my realm of control.
The time for exchanging jabs back and forth has passed. Now it is time to help each other get ready for what, barring an assassination or coupe, is coming our way.

In the past, preppers here had almost too many possibilities to consider and prepare for. From hurricanes, tornados, and floods, to volcanoes, CME, EMPs, and Nukes. Then of course there were the biological possibilities...anything short of a zombie apocalypse!
Now it seems things are starting to resolve to the very likely possibility of cyber, then power outages, EMP, and Radiation. No one's surviving a direct hit, so we're looking at what comes before that.
Can we outline some checklists for people in various situations so that the experience here can help with preparations before we go off-line??

I feel really sorry for the destroyed lives of the Ukrainians, and I hate seeing some who I thought were reasonable people on this forum take Putin's side because "Trump likes him" or because "Soros hates him"???!
Either one is too simplistic for such a complex issue.

In the past, preppers here had almost too many possibilities to consider and prepare for. From hurricanes, tornados, and floods, to volcanoes, CME, EMPs, and Nukes. Then of course there were the biological possibilities...anything short of a zombie apocalypse!
Now it seems things are starting to resolve to the very likely possibility of cyber, then power outages, EMP, and Radiation. No one's surviving a direct hit, so we're looking at what comes before that.
Can we outline some checklists for people in various situations so that the experience here can help with preparations before we go off-line??
It would probably be very useful to compare and discuss (without arguing!) preps for cyber, power outages, EMP, and Radiation
(Add your own if I left some off!)
How are those preps different (if so?) for these different locations?
Or is it better to break it down for each category? EMP etc?
- People in apartments, townhouses, and condos
- People in houses (with or without basements)
- People in your BOL
- Cities vs Rural

I LOVE this idea. First off it is the best way for ALL of us to kind of go over and review, maybe for the 2000th time our own preps, and maybe we catch a weakness we need to shore up. It also is good for people just starting out to kind of organize the thoughts into possible actions. Starting out can be so overwhelming a lot just give up.
I think perhaps I would divide things into City vs Rural because the environments, socially and dependency wise, regardless what kind of domicile you dwell in, are the necessitating factor for how you prep.
Cyber EMP/HEMP, CME all kind of fall into "Power Outages". Nuke too, but with the added component of Radiation.

I prefer Saanen goat. Had 1 that gave 2 1/2 gallons a day.
It would be good to prevent these terrible events that we are prepping for,, from happening in the first place. To that we must know who is deliberately causing them, not put our blinders on and say it doesn't matter.

Sanctions against Russia mainly affect the Russian population, currently thousands of Russian citizens lose their jobs inside Russia because European companies withdraw from Russia. In Europe, thousands of Russians are also losing their jobs because they are being arbitrarily bullied out, and Russians in Europe must expect to be attacked in the streets.
It is now about Russian citizens who for the most part can do nothing for what Putin is doing.¨
What will happen now? These people who now lose everything through sanctions will be very angry with Europe and the USA, if the EU wants to weaken Russia with sanctions, it will achieve the opposite, the people will stand by Putin and the EU will drive Russia into the arms of China.

I would love to know HOW to prevent this...been trying for most of my adult life to talk sense into people (some in laws included). These problems have been coming on now for a generation or more.
I went to rallies, gave dollars and time to organizations that I thought might help. Called and wrote representatives until they knew my name. I even used some of my extended family's DC connections to get in contact with people I thought were trustworthy and might make a difference. NONE OF IT DID because here we are.
Calling people names does nothing because the fatal flaw of any argument is when you allow emotion to override reason.
It is a ploy of the propagandist because it makes even reasonable people that were putting forth a good argument and winning, lose their snit, making anyone who might actually be swayed by them, turn away in disgust.
Reasoned discussion based in logic is productive in changing hearts and minds. Emotional arguments that create a defensive response in the first five seconds, falls only on deaf ears and has the opposite effect.

It's not easy to do. It can be done. Often later than sooner.
We cannot prevent what people think. What I have a hard time with is people who don’t think such as us, label anyone who thinks differently as a “heretic, subversive, and any other adjective they want.”

I treat my enemies that are being deceptive in trying to be my ally the same as an ally that is clueless and aiding my enemies. I don't have the time to sort them out.

That is part of the problem isn't it? People have resorted to defining truth as what we used to call opinion. Kind of makes it impossible to decern.
Like I said before, if we, preppers, friendly, hopeful, mostly Godly, cannot get along with our own family members sometimes...how will we ever get along with gun toting criminals, drugdealers, pedophiles and socialist/marxist atheists??? There has been too many decades of planning of the take over of the world since Alexander the Great showed it could be done. Only the how an when was never right because of the lack of technology. Now they have nukes, biolabs, GPS, cruise missiles, 5-G and enough people trained in their private elite schools to follow them and lead us with their propaganda, lies, MSM, internet fake news and such....just prep, keep your faith and pray you will disappear as or even before the SHTF and leave your preps for the poor souls in the aftermath of which is very soon able to happen, with or without our doings or non-doings...live free, Gary
