They're going away soon. The local store is still well stocked for a lot of things, but they're emptying their warehouses.
We got some camping stuff there, some clothes and other goodies.
Unfortunately, they're keeping the ammo discounts low....
There is one somewhere near Atlanta. If I can I will try to check it out later this week.
Just make sure it's still there if you're going out of your way.

Ours is about to close down. Hunny did get really nice hiking boot for $5.58. Honestly think missed marked cause non of the other shoes were marked that low. Ton a miss that store but they say Academy is too much of competition.
The one near here told me that they've been told that they'd shut down in August. We'll see, I did score some 5.11 tactical boots for about $40 off - I'd been too much of a tightwad to buy them. Glad I did because they are so good that they didn't need breaking in!
I've been thinking about more hunting clothes, they're all half off...

Got all the corner posts and gate posts set for the pig pasture (10 acres) and about half of the steel T-posts are in. Only need to drive in about 200 more posts and build a couple of gates. Then I can start putting up the wire. Got the corral done and the chicken run just about finished. Picked up the baby chicks at the post office last Wednesday. They're all doing good. Got them under a heat lamp at my parents place until I can bring them home. I'm setting up a solar panel, battery and inverter to a 62 watt heat plate brooder for them at home. Got the garden and orchard fenced on three sides. Need to clear some more trees and brush for the orchard expansion before I can fence the last side. My son's coming down next weekend to help me roof the chicken coop and re-roof the pump house, which blew off last winter. It's been hot here. Been having bear problems lately. Looks like I'll be getting another bear rug soon. Got up to 83 today, highest so far this summer.
Man, it's Monday morning again! The weekends really fly by, especially when you fill them with projects. The potato slices look great after being in the dehydrator all night. They are semi translucent and free of dark spots. I will do a batch every day for the potatoes that had any blemishes, and the best ones are going in the root cellar to see how well they last in there. I will store the finished potatoes in baggies until I get enough to put in jars and will oven can them to get a good seal. I guess I should try making something out of them to see how they taste before I store too many, but either way the less than perfect potatoes are getting dealt with first. These are all red potatoes in this batch. It's amazing how much better they taste than the stuff from Walmart.
There are three left in Atlanta, with only one near enough to where we work often. I'll make the effort to see what they have left. We had a Kmart here close that I went to but it was not marked down much and was already picked over. It's sad for retail, but brick and mortar stores are in trouble. I know I buy the vast majority of our supplies on line, mostly amazon. How can you compete with cheaper and shipped free to your door? I recently read that Jeff Bezos is well on his way to being the richest man in the world. I wish I had invested a thousand dollars with him when he get started!

We learned the hard way to use a sliding bolt lock on the outside of the gate. . . we at first just used a hook and quickly found out they were smart enough to open that. Do the pigs not normally dig under the fences if running around on 10 acres? Our pen I nowhere near that big but sunk railroad ties in the ground to prevent them from digging under.
i just did a web search for a gander mountain nearest me..it turns out,that there's one in tyler tx.so if there's anyone that can go to that one..it's at 151 market square blvd tyler tx...to bad i dont have the needed money to make the trip..

It's been a long time since I've had pigs, but when I did I put rings in their snouts. That helped prevent them from rooting and digging too much. My only concern about them getting out is getting eaten by bears or mountain lions. What we're calling the pig pasture will also be home for the milk cow and the wife's mini donkeys.
I used to have some draft horses that we're pretty good about opening gate latches too.

Finally finished weeding the garden , dug atound blue berry plants and added alittle chicken poop . Ordered some pistol mags from Midway USA .
In my attempts at being frugal re-went over the budget for groceries with the fiance and developed a better plan for food storage and short-term long term use based on our history of use with the items being A) we are so good with this item that we don't need to give it extra care and it is a staple of our household or B) we make terrible use of this product/are wasteful with it and need to take special care with its prep/storage and prioritization.
I'm feeling more determined to make better use of what we have. I also picked up a cast iron griddle for 4$ that was on clearance.
The feed store guy in my area said he would GIVE us a hen to see how the dog reacted to it before we sprang on some equipment. (would love to train the dog myself but it belongs to a roommate so there are complications). Not sure if I want to take the man up on his offer of hen.

Iv learned the hard way . Do not get chickens untill you have strong pens and a good fence .

I've been having problems posting from my stupid "smart" phone lately. What I meant to say was; When I first introduced chickens to my dog I put a shock collar on him. When he started to chase after them I zapped him once. He's never looked crossways at a chicken since. Later on I trained him to keep the hens off the patio. We'll be brining the new chicks home next week.Repetition repetition.

I ordered the new 12 kw Perkins diesel generator and the solar equipment yesterday. It should start arriving in a couple of weeks. Got the lumber to start building the generator building. This will house the generator, battery bank and the inverters. It looks like we're going to delay building the house until next year. The contractor wouldn't be able to start construction until September and it wouldn't be finished before winter. Instead I'll add another 16x24 extension to the barn and build the fur shed and possibly the shop too.
I use to have a half Siberian Husky half Australian Sheperd that would herd My chickens like sheep . He kept them safe day and night . Nothing killed a chicken while I had Him .
Put up a temporary pin for the goats, we have blackberries coming over from federal land and need the goats to cut it back to the fence line, that's been my excitement for the past two weeks. Waiting for a part to the dozer so I can re-link the tracks so I can cut a fresh fire line around the property, the forest service moved two large tankers on the property. kids got the generator down to the furthest well house and setup the center pivot to saturate the ground for when it's needed giving fire season is starting up, we about set up for the season once I get the dozer back on line.

They work! I have a rescue that wanted to roam the world and there was no restraining the beast. The shock collar was so effective that he doesn't even need it anymore. It seemed kind of cruel at first, but beats him getting maimed or killed by a car.
Tomorrow is planned for picking blueberries and preserving potatoes all day.ill probably throw in one more batch of pickles too. All I'm am sure of is I'm also going to take it easy some too as I've been working too many hours lately!
Don't relax too much, at first retirement was great.... for the first month, kids wanted me to take it easy and wouldn't let me help, every time now I go to do something the kids tell me we got it pops so now I'm the slave of the Wife, she is very fond of writing honey do lists :-/
We picked up a bunch of sweet corn today. I suppose tomorrow will be shucking and cutting.... I hope I can find an emergency to take care of somewhere else.

I got a backpack for my BOB , a poncho, ordered a knife online, and 1 can chili mac freeze dry food by Mountain House.
I also added a extra bag of beans and rice to my pantry.
