This weeks preps check-in

I got an email from Gander Mountain. In case some of you don't know, they're like Cabelas light, and recently filed bankruptcy. They were bought by Camping World. Anyways, their stuff went on sale this week, supposedly to prepare for the takeover, but they're calling it a liquidation. Whatever. Either way, ammo was 10% off, which was still too high. Guns and knives the same. Camping stuff was more like 20 to 30% off, so we got a few things that we'd been thinking about. Also got a cleaning kit for the camelbaks for $7, which I'd been needing.

i finally got all 5 ammo cans/buckets loaded with the food,that i'll be taking on the camping trip.2 good things about that.is,i wrapped each jar in newspaper before putting them into the cans.lil chance of them getting broke that way.even if one does break.it'll stay with-in the canister,untill i deal with it....

Earlier this year when they went into Chapter 11, they said they were closing 32 stores.

The on their website, they announced a "Going out of business" liquidation sale. But also said that "the Gander Mountain brand means that we will continue to be a part of the specialty outdoor market."

But now, Gander Mountain has been bought by Camping World, and the owner of Camping World, Marcus Lemonis, is saying they hope to keep 70 stores open out of 126. That would mean 56 stores closing. They are liquidating their inventory at all 126 locations due to the buyout because the inventory was bought by a liquidator, not by Camping World.

I thought Camping World sold RV's and related items. At least the one did that I went to last year.

Finially got the tractor out today. I dug down to the rear hitch and wrapped a chain around it and to the bucket on the excavator. The excavator couldn't lift it completely but he could take some of the weight off and drag it sideways. The only damage that I can see is a broken link on one of the tire chains and the loader bleeds down some. Since its covered in mud I'll run it down to the creek to wash it off and look for leaks. Total cost was $300, a case of beer and a bottle of whiskey.
Also got the chicken coop all framed in today. It's supposed to rain on Friday so I need to get it under roof before then. The wife will put her chick order in next week.

This is a pic of what I got this evening out of the garden. This adds up everyday which is why I do a lot of preserving. Still have things that haven't started to produce yet, but so far this is a really good season.

My big spend this month was ordering two swing a way easy crank can opener for my #2.5 and #10 cans, picked up 2 qts of molasses and 1.5 pounds of powdered blackstrap molasses (for homemade peanut butter)

Good idea. I think I'll try eating a few of the dehydrated meals before stocking up on them. I'm a big believer of if you don't want to eat it why would you store it?

I really do envy you guys having such a wide variety of long life food to choose from. It's only been the last couple of years tht we can get this sort of thing, Mountain house and another brand from Germany and it's priced way out of my pocket.

My beans have only just germinated and I'm still waiting for the squash to pop up. I haven't bothered with cukes this year.

it was ok..i've eaten better tasting mac n cheese..but yet,it is edible..i 'll add tuna or something else to it next time.

spent a weekend running around the bush,made that 25 klick march,me +20kg,and yes I have a "poison stick" in my mouth,have been without for a while,but lack of food,made take one (week mind I know),heels are like mince,but didn't quit and took part in the assault scenario right after the march..feel kinda good about me,the old goat still can,still do.

Holy crap, I had to do a double take! I think we might be long lost twins. Other than your beard being a little scruffier than mine, I thought I was looking at a picture of me. Kind of cool, but are you sure your dad didn't come over here on holiday 50 some odd years ago! I'll send you a pict shortly.

Brent S,don't know,there's alot I don't know what my dad did before me,I do know he spent some time in the legion,but never talked much about those years, sometimes his nightmares,when he got old,told me it wasn't something nice...but he did mention we might have relatives over there..

Planted some cherry and apple trees, grapes, raspberry, blackberry and blueberry plants. Built some raised beds. We should be safe planting some vegetables next week. Most nights are above 40 degs now. Got the siding on the chicken coop done. I'm using 1x12 rough cut Doug fir lumber board and batten. Need to rip some boards for trim, put the shingles on, install windows and build the run. The wife has 25 chicks on order. They're due to arrive in about two weeks. Still plugging away on the corral and cross fence. I'm down to only about a mile of the premimiter fence left to repair.

I've been working a lot of hours lately, and the grass is about a foot high right now. That's near the top of today's list. I did get one area in the garden weeded yesterday morning and mounded the dirt around the peanut plants there. For today, just playing catchup with maintenance on all the plants and cleanup around here.

I've been thinking the same thing. I'd much rather hear about people's gardens and their preps than politics. Granted, it's important to keep up on what's going on in the world but sometimes it's kind of overwhelming.
Sounds like you could put up some hay in your yard. Maybe you could get some sheep to eat it down. After lunch I'm going to look at some weaner pigs that a guy has for sale. May stop and go fishing again too. Caught a bunch of trout yesterday. All about 12-18 inches.

I now have 3-16 gallon barrels.they only had dr pepper in them.

Got all the posts in for the corral and the gates hung today. Got two more corner posts (3 posts each) and another gate for the pig pasture left. I'm going with treated corner posts and steel T posts in between with 48" high hog wire and 3 strands of barb wire on top. Put in about 60 posts today, another 200 to go.
Almost forgot, the wife comes home on Friday. Better get the house cleaned up tomorrow.
