It's coming all the way down the pike!! 20's for the high here Friday! Not too bad here until then (yes it is, for me anyway), 50's!
Your fruit trees should be dormant by now. If you've had leaf drop and cool to cold temps, they are ready for winter.19* F in Alamo right now, forecast high of 48* F, otherwise clear & sunny. Looks like this cold snap is gonna last through next week... hope my young fruit trees survive, I've put a lot of effort into maintaining them & protecting them.
Soooo, you are the reason the artic air is coming. Hope you have a fun and SAFE trip!!Cool and sunny. 30s/40s today. Expecting teens by next Friday, possibly a little snow. Just in time for our road trip

Clem makes a great point. Always go for your zone, or 1 further north.Don't I still need to cover them during hard freezes? They're only saplings, 5' or 6' high...
I don't wanna lose 'em, as they've established themselves and are otherwise doing pretty well...
They have lost all their leaves, but look to be in fairly good condition...
I paid good money for 'em, so I want them to last as long as I do... and longer still for my niece and/or nephew.
They are talking single digits Thursday night!! 50mph wind gusts! YUCK!@Pearl hope the really cold doesn't come this way, just a few degrees above freezy valley. I've been so cold, what a sissy i am.
Same here today but no rain, just cloudy! Gonna get a lot worse!!44° at noon, 20mph wind, and raining, the trifecta of miserable .
My little buddy is burning me some kilowatts making my room a toasty 79°.

I understand. Acclimate. When the lows are in the -20 to - 40 F you don't want to keep your place that warm. It's like walking into 100 °+. The temperature differential from outdoor to indoor is too extreme and neither one feels good.
When I worked in Antarctica they had a 300 club at the south pole. That's when the outside temp was -100f and the sauna was +200 degs. Then the fools would run naked around the world. Yes, there is actually a pole at the south pole. When the lows are in the -20 to - 40 F you don't want to keep your place that warm. It's like walking into 100 °+. We keep the house at 60° a T shirt and long sleeved shirt makes it comfortable and we just need to put on a coat and we are good to go without a lot of hassle. We did breakout the winter boots, mitts and toqes. The dogs still want their walks even though they were out barking at coyotes half the night. (doggy door)
Same here.we hit the -40 c 40 below line early this morning, little to no wind
