Chocolate chip pancakes.

Been a long time since I made pancakes so I opened a new box and made some last week. They didn't cook right, something was very wrong!!! Put them in the dog bowl, made another batch (by weight, grams), same result. They were like thick lumps that had a funky white interior. Didn't brown right either...

I buy the pancake mix that only needs water added. I poured out some more mix, looked okay, smelled okay. Then I noticed the expiration date on the box. Oct of '20. Oops! guess it got lost in my pantry rotation.

So yes, pancake mix does expire!

The baking powder went bad.
We don't buy the boxed mix anymore. We make our own.

@Patchouli @Terri9630 You two have inspired me! I just dug out my Alton Brown cook book on baking! Has pancakes of course but a lot more, muffins, breads, hushpuppies, biscuits, cakes, dumplings... The best part is he gives science lite version of why it all works...

I've been putting off learning to bake, it's time.

@Terri9630 how do you prefer your Dr Pepper? Can, bottle, fountain? Icy, on ice, cold cold, don’t care just gimme the &@$%# Dr Pepper?

Cold 20oz bottles. I will drink out of a can if I have to but I can taste the aluminum. I'm not fond of fountain drinks. They never taste right.

@Terri9630 Agree on the fountain. I prefer a bottle but then I drink too much at one time; cans are ok icy. I guess I got used to it in a can. When I pour it over ice, it ruins it! Loses carbonation and flavor almost right away. Are you straight on Dr Pepper or diet? I’m straight on, I never drink diet sodas.

Diet:barf: I get the full sugar stuff!!!

We had ham and spuds, too.
Brought dinner to my favorite cousin's place for a belated birthday dinner now that she's well.
Ham, scalloped pototoes, green salad, and chocolate cookies. We had ice cream, too.
Oh yea, I need to find a new icecream maker before it everything goes kaputz. Maybe I can look tomorrow.
