Cleaning house for my birthday lunch tomorrow which I am also cooking. what is wrong with this picture?

Actually, we were going to the marina tomorrow for lunch, but we had a cold front come in and it's too cold for mom (89) to sit outside so I cancelled those plans. This way I can get my SIL to help me fix my dishwasher.

My first home made soaps are a success! Hubby would like a bit more lather so will work on that next batch. All in all a successful tallow soap. Yay!

Went to a wrestling tournament early this morning. Drove through an ice storm getting there and some snow. So, some 400+ people, probably considered a "super spreader" event some months back... :brewing:

Amazing really. Maybe a handful of masks but overall none for most. It was great seeing kids smile, families enjoying themselves, and everyone treating each other respectfully. So in between and currently now, I am streaming several live streams from the tube keeping up to date on the Freedom Protest. Running 3 computers in the in the "command" center (aka the man cave).

I can't wait until that stupid mandate is lifted here. I guess I'm awful. I can't even recognize folks I know. Also, never realized how much I read lips. Happy to hear a) you made it to and fro safely & b) you had a good time.

Can I ask a question? Too bad, I'm gonna anyways.
What time do y'all wake up? Our coffee is ready by 4:10AM. If I get to sleep in, I wake up generally 4:45-5, on a rare occasion 5:30.
4-4:30! I'm up alot at night too, just how I am! I grew up getting up early!! I'm a morning person, can't wait to up!! Yep, I'm weird!! Hubby is NOT a morning person!

And to add to the weirdness....I drink 4-6oz of water before coffee. Heard it was good for the gut. So far so good!

I got a few things done today. Did a little work on a seed spreader. Marked out a few rows in the garden with the cultivators. Got a row of red potatoes and another of white planted.

I hooked up the gang disk to the big tractor and plowed a firebreak around the field by the highway. Hopefully my uncle can come and help me burn the field off. It needs it badly.

It's looked so crappy the last few years I dug out at a few photos when I took care of it...

I'll tell him, Urban, and I'm sure he'll tell me to do the same. The back deck had a good sized bowl of them last spring/summer and the whole plant did so well, he loved them. I should of seed saved them, I think I just saved the zinnia. Then I saw how $$ the Gerbera seed is! He bought an assortment that should arrive soon. I seed saved all the field marigolds from last year (tall, yellow and orange, garden border) and have a big bin of seeds. Too many. If anyone needs some, let me know.
Speaking of seeds, because I have so little space I find myself planting a few seeds out of a package and taping the end closed again.
We have gotten a lot of use out of the 4 Gerber daisies pots we have, but I don't think we could support any more of them... Last year I planted flowers in the garden to keep the bugs down, but they overwhelmed all the plants near them, this year I am just going to go with netting on the high risk plants...

Last night we canned minestrone soup, the wife wanted to do a double batch, but part way through it became clear that she had not properly doubled the volumes of ingredients that she needed.... I had extra onions, carrots, and herbs growing for the soup, no problem.... Then she asks, you don't have Zucchini growing down there? Answer, Not yet... I got sent to the store on a Saturday afternoon to buy 1 squash. Once the jars were filled it was my job to run the canner, with 3 hours to burn watching a gauge I started listening to my favorite old songs (that drove the wife out of the kitchen) Anyway by midnight all the soup was canned.

I woke up this morning with a throbbing headache, sinus mostly, you know the kind where the top of your head is being pulled through a black hole and your teeth feel like they are being pulled out.... Makes me just a tad bit grumpy....

The wife just told me that someone has "Free" veggies that they are giving away this morning at the church and I should run across town and get some... Not good I am ready for a case of road rage and I haven't even left the house.

I usually wake up when it gets light out so it depends on the time of year. We only get up in dark on farmers market days or if we plan on driving somehwere far.

Snowing again, and much to my surprise sticking to the ground. It was almost 50 degrees yesterday
So today I am not going to do much except take care of the animals , cook, dishes.
Taxes are done, laundry is done, stinky dog got a bath ( she is old and has skin problems) , house is cleaned except floor which is pointless in this weather since the dogs drag in mud. Oh started some seeds in trays also, and ordered a few more. After I got done ordering I realized I had no lettuce seeds, and forgot to order them.
Our sheep are huge, they are due in about a week or so. One has prolapse and we put a harness on her. I don't know if she has a bunch of lambs in there or is just too fat. I hope she will give birth ok without having to call the vet.

Oh one more weird thing: we heard a big boom last night. It sounded like a mix of thunder or a big explosion. No thunderstorm anywhere near and we looked outside nothing we could see burning. It was definitely not a gunshot ( before covid it sounded like a war going on on some days around here ) . What could that have been?

I'm generally up between 4 and 5 am. Go to bed around midnight to 1 am. The woman sleeps until 7! She'd sleep later if I didn't wake her up.

Waiting.
Then Sunday School and Worship service.
Take MIL out for lunch.
Sleep while watching the Super Bowl.
Fix myself a lite supper.

@The Lazy L , dang we're cut from same mold.
Same schedule except lunch.
Stopping by daughters, she's making lunch for us , I don't turn on kneelers at all , to take a nap.
I just take one without tv.

Y'all have a blessed day.

Jim

Will be in the gym all day today for a volleyball tournament. Enjoying my daughters last year of club ball, the last 2 years were pretty terrible and not a fun way to end your high school career. I am also thankful these mandates are lifting.

Ending up taking mom to ER last night about 8 pm. She fell and hit the back of her head on an end table. So they decide to do a complete workup of her because of her age, and see that an enzyme that might detect heart trouble is high on her bloodwork. So, she ended up with three staples in the back of her head where she hit it, and an overnight stay was decided to recheck her bloodwork every once and a while. Got home at 2:30 this morning, and will be going back soon to see what's up and probably bring her back home.

Well, the weekend started great, but.....

On Friday we picked up Son#2 from the airport - he used frequent flier miles to come to Cincy for the Superbowl. There's no place else he'd rather watch the game than in Cincy, and his close friend lives right in the thick of activities along the riverfront. (Son#2 and my dad had a very special relationship watching the Bengals, so he's prone to a few man tears about it all.) So we enjoyed having dinner with him before bringing him to his friend's place.

Then later on Friday, as my husband was heading to service a customer, he was rammed in the side by a young driver. Honestly, it is amazing that everyone walked away from that accident. The vehicle hit his van right at the front of the doorframe. All the glass blew out of the window, but thankfully the airbags protected him - not even a scratch. Very, very thankful he is even alive.

But, to make a long story short - the van is in very bad shape, may not be salvageable. And that van is needed for my husband's business - it's outfitted specifically for his equipment. It's hard enough trying to run a franchise in current economic conditions - now this. We spent the day yesterday tracking down a box truck with a ramp for him to rent, and last night he was able to service his main customer before today's game activities, which is hugely important. He filters cooking oil and cleans fryers for restaurants, and this customer has massive orders for bbq wings, it's all hands on deck today for all the Superbowl parties!

So... this afternoon I'm taking DH out for a drive to get away from things for a bit (no customers today). Then back home to watch the game. It's all been so stressful, he's been beside himself. I'm hoping to be able to take him mind off it all for a little bit, make him smile.

So glad he's okay. Take a deep breath - prayers for a new or repaired service truck.
