Things get done very slowly in New Mexico, Spike. Patience. Ha.
Got my green beans finally planted in all the stock tanks with the old house windows over them. Mama cat and the juniors joined me, and noticed Mama is expecting again. Went into the bigger town to Home Depot for some potting mix and a shelf for a new basement seed starter set up. Our grow lights came in this morning (thanks, Urban). I'll put up the shelves, husband can mess with the lighting. He wants one flat of Gerber Daisies seeded. He loves them. Kids are going to the HS dance after the Homecoming game (they're in band), they'll be home late tonight, so I'll be doing their chores this afternoon, but enlisting little granddaughter to help.

Tell your hubby that I have about 4 of the Gerber Daisies in medium sized pots (the kind with the hole in the bottom) and I set them in a starter tray with about 3/4" of water under the lights, when they bloom I take them upstairs and put them on the kitchen table, when the bloom dies I trim them back and put them back in the starter tray under the lights... with 4 plants I usually have one in bloom on the table all the time. I know they can't keep it up forever but it's been 6 months and they are still going strong....

I'll tell him, Urban, and I'm sure he'll tell me to do the same. The back deck had a good sized bowl of them last spring/summer and the whole plant did so well, he loved them. I should of seed saved them, I think I just saved the zinnia. Then I saw how $$ the Gerbera seed is! He bought an assortment that should arrive soon. I seed saved all the field marigolds from last year (tall, yellow and orange, garden border) and have a big bin of seeds. Too many. If anyone needs some, let me know.

I also went to 2 different businesses to find the silver wrap to put on my hvac duct that the mice have gnawed through 3 times. I've wrapped with plastic and duct tape and they go right through it. Thought I would get the silver wrap, metallic tape that the installers use, but couldn't find any. Even went to a dealership. They have a shortage. Guess I will go under the house and rewrap and tape until I get the repair tape I need.

Today started out feeling comfortable, temperature wise, but with snow predicted this afternoon. It chilled down and we are getting snow now. Took one of my dogs to the neighborhood dog park this morning and the dogs provided lots of entertainment. Took her home and then picked up the second and third dog and took them to another dog park, which is always windier, and it was definitely cooler there. Now I'm back at a clients house where I've been house sitting since Sunday evening. Watching it snow. Texted owner of dog four and told her I thought it best for me to stay off the roads. She agreed. She has roommates who can let her dog out. They just don't take her dog to dog parks for play and exercise.

Lunch was really good to Jim.

@Smalltimefarmer happy birthday! 6 chicks will lay a lot of eggs over time, so they are the gift that keeps on giving!

@Spikedriver - fingers crossed you get the local position, no amount of $ is worth not sleeping in your own bed :)

@Neb - project looks awesome, as usual!

@Magus, I need to adopt some of your vibe, enjoying the fact I'm alive!

I celebrated hitting my goal weight today (the last time I weighed this was the summer between HS and my Freshman year), but my sole meal was a salad that couldn't make it on the cover of Compost Monthly. I may officially no longer be overweight as defined by the US Gubbermunt, but I'm lacking a little zen in my heart and zest in my step. No salad is going to fix that ;p

Congratulations @TeeJ! That’s super exciting! I reached my goal a few years ago after getting away from big pharma. Struggle here and there but making lifestyle changes and sticking to them (more than salads 😉) really helps keep it off. Keep up the great work! 🎉

Working on some much needed house cleaning today. Also doing some cooking stuff and working on making sure supplies are topped off.

Making more mint coffee syrup. Very simple. Mint (dried from the garden last season), water and local honey. Not too sweet just a hint of mint. Makes the house smell so good.
Still need to make the rabbit and tortoise their salads and sort mealworms for the chickens. Maybe put out some more winter/molting blocks for them. Not sure since I can’t say we’re truly in winter. 🤷🏻‍♀️
Need to water plants today too. Probably the newer trees too. Just so darn dry already.
Well better get back to it. Coffee break over.
have a great afternoon everyone

Unfortunately it’s not looking promising at all at this point for us escaping so the goal of telling Cali to kiss our bums is just a dream
I felt the same way trying to escape Cleveland during the "Great Recession". It was the hardest thing we've ever done, but one of the best as well! We came 2 days away from having our Ohio house foreclosed, and lived 2 years in a 800sq ft rental with 4 kids, 2 rabbits and 2 cats! But after 4 years of making it by the skin of our teeth, we get to wake up in a beautiful house, with a beautiful yard, going off to an amazing solid job with coworkers who don't drive me crazy and some of the nicest neighbors in the world. Lots of short term suck for even more long term beauty us a trade-off I'll take every time :)

Thanks - I made the change when my doctor prescribed me a bucket full of heart, diabetes and cholesterol meds. I said "hell no" to all of that and went keto and started intermittent fasting. I've lost 75 lbs in the last 5 months and never did start any of those meds. On top of that, my arthritis and psoriasis are the best they've been in decades! I feel like I've hit my healthy weight, but just put another 15 lbs of goal in my weight app of pure vanity to see what happens, but I'm not worried about them at all.

Love hearing about everyone's projects, and will start praying that you can escape CA sooner than later :)

That is so awesome! Really happy for you!
While my true health issues are “worse” I'm so much healthier now. Lost far more than doctor said i should. I’m considered a healthy weight now but wish i could loose another 15. Don’t think it would be heathy though and my body said where I’m at now is where i need to be. Work very hard to use as much from our own doings as possible too. Has dramatically reduced monthly costs. With the high inflation that has been VERY helpful for us.
Very much appreciated the prayers :huggs:
