I was a professional during my career and dress codes did not tolerate long hair. It was only in the last year prior to retirement that I started to let what was left of my hair grow and even then I kept it in a pont tail. My desire was quite the contrary from yours.

Congratulations on your dream. I am like-wise enjoying mine.

Ben

I've never had any sort of dress code. in my 20s I was the proverbial long haired country boy by my early 30s my hair had receded and I was shaving my head. I blamed on hardhats but I figure genetics had more to do with it.

Today was an interesting day. I was told straight run chicks would be in but after the drive up I found this to be false. They couldn’t figure out which employee told me.
Was able to get the cat litter everyone has been out of so that was a plus.
Paid registration on one truck and trailer at dmv since I was in town.
Called all of the feed stores again in 4 counties about chicks again with no luck. Gave up and came home.
While talking with my sister in law she apparently posted online on some social media asking if anyone knew where rooster chicks were for sale. Within 2 hours we had confirmation of rooster in all of the breeds we were considering for $2.20 each! I didn’t even know she had asked. They have a bunch! I thought this place went out of business years ago and it never came up on online searches! It’s almost an hour trip to them but I’m going first thing in the morning. Our broody hen hopefully will hatch chicks tomorrow night. Hopefully I don’t get there and they are huge. At $2.20 each I would suspect not.
Got a call from our Morgage broker. He’s so nice. He was just checking to see if we were still lookin. He’s trying to help us get our move on🤪 Trust me so are we. 😂
Time to unload the truck and get chores done. Have a good evening! Will be back in a bit

I had always wanted to get a hot straight razor shave. Today was the day!
View attachment 84033
So the Harley Davidson dealership near us put in this little mini-mall all made out of stacked shipping containers, very upscale run-down. There was a barbershop there that looked really cool, all wood and brass and antique barber chairs. I thought it would be nice to patronize a new place in town, so I went in for a straight razor shave on the ol' noggin and beard trip. This normally sets me back $18 at Fantastic Sam's and I gladly pay $25 w/tip because they do a great job. The new place didn't have any prices up, but I though how bad can it be? $75 for the shave and $50 for the beard trim for a grand total of $125 before tip. I think that would cover my annual haircut budget most years. I now know if a barbershop doesn't have prices posted, turn around and walk away slowly without making eye contact or sudden moves!

Just talked to banker. Going to buy a new bull tomorrow. Maybe a replacement heifer or bred heifer too. Selling bull, two older cows and a calf at sale on Saturday. This should pay for expense’s tomorrow. Looking at a Beefmaster or Charlois bull. Young, fully tested and I would agree to either. Prefer the BM looks over C but conformation is good on both. Disposition of them is to be seen. The man said they are gentle. Banker said he will cover check for me. Pen cows and sort in morning. TR picking them up at 9 to take to sale. Moving forward. Have to pick up feed today.
My experience only: Charlois are big boned and throw big calves. If you are putting them on first calf heifers, might have calving problems. Just food for thought.
What's copper scrapping out for these days?
A ton! One of the main copper plants in USA had an explosion about a month ago??? Nobody seems to be able to get copper until "maybe Sept."
I've never shaved my head, but have considered it more than once 🤪
Gorgeous day - spent a goodly portion of it running around in search of nonexistent U-bolts. Finally found a place that makes them - oy!

We once lost a couple of great cows because of big Charolais bulls, calving probs. We switched to a polled Hereford.

Had to go to the big town, got new plugs for my portable trash pumps. Got 100ft of lay-flat hose. Hope I can get one of my pumps running tomorrow, still have to start draining the cow pond.

Drove past your place around 6ish on my way home from work..saw your hubby or some guy in a pickup pulling out and I waved. LOL he doesn't know me from Adam, and I'm not sure he saw me either :)

Did laundry till midnight, then started another load this morning. I have been grocery shopping (that was interesting). The groceries are put up and now I am taking a break before going to HD for supplies to do the raised bed updates.

Just a beautiful day in the neighborhood....

Husband has a fasting blood draw this morning, so no breakfast for him. We'll go into the bigger town this morning and go do that, then go to breakfast. Stopping by mom's place afterwards to bring her a wallet and some money in it. I am not very happy doing that, because she will hide it in weird places, then next week will insist I bring more money. She called yesterday and was very mean on the phone, insisting I bring her money, then hung up on me. I have no idea how she thinks she's going to spend it, but oh well.
Will be going to Tractor Supply for game bird feed and also to Lowes for dirt to plant the four fruit trees. Am hoping that the wind will calm down this weekend so that I can do that.
Urban, geesh, you never sleep.

Get one of those key finder disks and slip it in the wallet.. then with the push of a button you can find the hiding place. The tile slim will fit in a wallet like a credit card and works with most smart phones. At $40 it is not cheap, but you will be able to find her stash.

I can usually find the wallets (she has two), but she takes everything out of them and hides things individually. Had to cancel her one credit card recently and order a new one because it was missing for 3 months. So now I keep that for her. I found over $400 in cash hidden all around her apartment in the weirdest places when I moved her a few weeks ago. Still missing are her social security card, medicare card, and her supplement insurance card. Found her vaxx card hidden in her silverware drawer. Took her last Monday to get an ID because she lost her old one by hiding it. So she hides things then says someone comes in and steals them. She has all her meals and needs provided for her, and really has no way to spend money unless we go out to the store or somewhere. So yesterday she was screaming at me that I was trying to starve her out by not letting her have cash, even though there's no way to spend it there. Then she hung up on me. So I'll drop off one of the wallets with $40 or $50 in it, and call it good. She has been complaining lately that they feed them so well that they're trying to fatten her up. It's not possible to make her happy. She's mean normally and the dementia makes it worse. When she goes after me, I usually just ignore her for awhile. Which I'll probably do after I drop off the wallet. I don't really need to see her after today till Easter anyway.

@Amish Heart , your mom sounds almost exactly like what I went thru with my mom. I would just let do whatever she wanted to do and agree with her on everything , because I didn't want to upset her . Patience will be needed , believe me.

I guess I'll be back to the torture chamber today , sanding and putting on another coat of mud in the utility room. Uuugghh.

Gonna try to get into Vet today to have him look at Eli's left eye. There's a white spot appeared on the bottom of his cornea. Everything I read says it is an injury , and needs medicating. He's so full of energy, don't surprise me he hurt it. He attacks everything viciously, playing.

May wait and have late late lupper. Fish don't start till 4pm in our restaurants.

Gotta call Vet.

Later.

Jim

More time for "The Torture Chamber"!!😁
Actually had something similar happen with a cat, white spot on the cornea! Two different eye drops for 21 days, no long term problems! I still have scars, Eli should be easier to than a cat to administer eye medication!! Let us know how he is!!

I never did the long hair thing, other than having a retarded mullet in high school. I started losing my hair in my late 30s, which is weird because every other guy in my family hasn't lost a damn hair and I'm the youngest so I should have the most. My Pops is 87 and has all of his hair. My brother is 61 and hasnt even gone gray yet. But i had to start shaving my head at 40...

Ha called the Vet about 1 mile up the road. Have known him ,since he was a kid.
See's Eli at 9:30 am.

Looks like I'm changing Vets.

Jim

Just got back from Vet. Got his next due shot. Eye exam ....no problem , no injury. He said it's just now starting to show pigmant change...he could end up with 1 blue eye and 1 brown eye.
As long as he don't have a problem...we happy.

Going out to lunch with my sister in law today then we are heading over to our friend's small boutique winery they own.
Need to clean up the kitchen, my husband left a mess in his haste to get out to see his dad, who is not doing well (he is on his way home today and should be home tonight).
Also need to take care of the chickens.
Other than that will try to squeeze in a workout, and also some CME stuff...I need to finish up my neuro certification and probably register for an advanced pharm course to take.
Tomorrow I am picking my daughter up at the airport, she is flying home from visiting her brother and cousins in CA. Yesterday she texted me that she missed me. So cute, especially as she is 19...that doesn't happen often! 😍

Sitting and reading the technical manuals for both my trash pumps. I haven't run them in a few years... time for a technical refresher course.

After lunch I'll do full maintenance on both, new spark plugs, oil, clean the carbs, air filters and get fresh fuel in the tanks. Then see if they'll run.

Lady called about Sunday, I'll be taking her to harvest yellow root. Afterwards we'll come back here and I'll show her how to properly make a std 1:2 volume tincture.

Puzzling medical history, I think she's lived with a low grade infection of some type for most of her life (many people do). Yellowroot will definitely help her but I think she needs and infection specialist. Someone who can dig into this properly. Like many people she'd seen the same GP for decades and does what they say without questions.

You would be surprised how often this happens. We are going through the same with my FIL...his GP who has been a doc for 80 thousand years is managing his heart failure, chronic kidney disease and afib. He's on the completely wrong medication and really needs to see a cardiologist and nephrologist but he refuses to do so. 86 and stubborn, so what can you do.

Oh , my back hurts.
Sanding drywall joints seems to do that to me.
Taking a little break , then a second coat , then , it's done for the day.
Gonna pick up my youngest grandson ( he's walking distance ) and we're going about 30 minutes to Bento, good size town.
We're having BLUEGILL dinner , 5 filet's, 3 sides $9.99. may splurge and have some homemade pie.☺️

Then it's back home to kick back for the day.

Y'all better hit the feedbag.

Jim

A good cardiologist can really help him live so much better.
Ask me how I know...I got one.
I have congestive heart failure , afiib, pacemaker/defib, only half a heart, some kidney failure, liver issues, half a colon, thyroid problems.
My cardiologist has me feeling like a young man again. He is up on the latest meds and treatments.
My lower back is what slows me down. It's such a disaster , the nuerosurgeon won't even do surgery at my age.

Tell him to see a cardiologist.

I’ve tried! I know some really good ones, there is one my dad sees who is phenomenal and I know has saved my dad more than once (who is also 86 yo).
I wish he would listen but he’s so stubborn and got mad at me last time, even though I gently tried to tell him (I even have a cardiovascular certification and mostly work in our cardiac ICU- I would hope he would listen…and realize I know what I’m talking about- but sadly not).
Glad you have a good cardiologist. Good docs make all the difference. It’s a scary time to be sick (in the inpatient setting) still.

@phideaux not sure what’s going on with your back but have you tried an inversion table where you can hang upside down for a few minutes a day? That really helps me a lot. My back is pretty messed up already, herniated discs.. etc. sometimes surgery makes it worse.

Hey! I’ve seen those here! Did you give her a wash n wax too?
No! It's 35 degrees, I ain't washing nothing until it warms up!😁

It's a Kershaw Ballast Regulator, and it's a very common piece of equipment. All the major railroads use them, so it's not surprising that you've seen one. Usually they're surrounded by a huge cloud of dust when they're doing work.
