Ben, I hope your stacking flower thingy works better for you than my stacking flower thingy. Tried growing strawberries in one, and the top levels were always too dry, and the bottom level was always too wet.
Thanks for the heads up. I will have to watch it.

I badly over did it the past two days. Cfs reared it’s ugly head this morning and told me I wasn’t doing anything, didn’t even cook lunch. I had left overs in the fridge…

Got a little energy this afternoon and did some dishes. My kitchen was a disaster, I was down to plastic forks. Got my 2nd tray drying, still have a few pots and pans to finish next. I need to re-season a few cast iron pans, doubt I’ll get the energy for that.

I got the critters fed and watered moments ago… I have so much that needs done outside. I bought 150ft of new wire for the chicken pen perimeter fence, just one of many items still on the to do list. The problem is... I have to take down the old fence then cut down 5 big trees, remove those. Then reshape the whole pen and plow out the drainage ditch with the tractor... then put up the new fence... it's a 2 day chore.

No plans but watch tv and cook dinner tonight.

Peanut, I feel you on that. My kitchen is still a disaster.

ABR, sending good vibes and virtual hugs your way.

Goshengirl, I hope everything goes well with your boy and the chemo.

TankGirl, I hope you can stay warm during this winter (I know it's winter in Australia). Have you considered waterproof mattress covers? I have to keep them on my bed because cats are jerks.

Ben, good to see your progress on the shed. Reminds me I need to clean my shed as well.

Stomach is back to being bleh. No runs this time but having stomach pain and generally feeling cruddy. Brother feels the same way. I wonder if its the Metformin bc we both take it. I went to the store and grabbed some stuff on the list but we didn't dally as neither of us are feeling well (bro usually goes with me to remind me what we were there for).

Had a funny moment last night when Yasuke was waiting to ambush Namir. Only he mistook my foot for Namir when I stepped into the kitchen. He viciously jumped on my foot digging claws into my shoe, then realized he'd made a mistake and leapt away before I could punt him across the room. I asked him if he was really that dumb. Being a cat he couldn't say "Here's your sign".

Hoping I can get some energy back and get this stomach stuff sorted. Different symptoms but still feeling bleh. Forgot to get baking soda at the store.

I need a new windscreen on my car!

I drove past a dump truck that had left a gravel quarry and it rained down rocks the size of golf balls over my car.
I have two big stars and a crack that runs from the seal at the top of the windscreen, runs down for 8 inches and does a big U-turn and is heading back up towards the top of the windscreen.
Luckily these blemishes aren't in my field of vision.
Unfortunately I wasn't able to get the licence plate number for the truck and I don't have comprehensive insurance so I have to pay for a new windscreen and get it fitted myself.
The tricky thing is these blemishes in the windscreen make the car unroadworthy and if the police pull me over I'm getting a fine for having it out on the road.

I rang around and the best quote for a windscreen with fitting and a new seal was $477 AUD and if I book it in now I can get it done in early August. I think that's fair because it's a 2005 model car and who the heck carries glass for a car that old in their day to day inventory?

I'm going through ANOTHER period of testing because I've had another lot of bad news that I'm not ready to talk about yet.

It was another brutal day in Eastern Kansas...

My boss decided that to beat the heat, we should start work at 3AM. Yikes. So we went in at 3AM, did some piddly prep work...and ended up sitting in the truck for an hour and a half because the dispatcher hosed us. So, we didn't get anything done before the heat came on, that we wouldn't have gotten done anyway. It got to about 95° and we are up against a tree line so there's very little breeze. It's ugly out there.

We finished building a switch the other day, had it put together perfectly. It needed to be moved about 250 yards so we had the hired contractors pick it up with 6 Caterpillar 336 excavators and move it. These are big railroad switches, about 250 feet long and very heavy. The contractors destroyed it, they lifted it 10 feet high and twisted it while moving it. Railroad switches have to be assembled precisely to work, and everything popped out of place. It looks like we will have to rebuild it tomorrow and that will put us behind the 8 ball to get the project done on Friday...

I'm sitting in bed eating chips and drinking wine...one of those days...
Got a call from car repair shop that was supposed to do son's car's inspection and change oil , antifreeze in the oil , so either blown headgasket or engine cracked. Plus about $1000 worth of repairs to pass inspection. They guy at the shop told us if it was him he would not spend all that money on this vehicle. So....totally unplanned expense, we had to look for a new vehicle for son to drive to school. Thankfully we found one. Got him a relatively inexpensive "old people car" with low miles and in good shape. He didn't complain.....

Puppy's ears are starting to stand up, he is sooo cute!!

Tank Girl: why was your dog on the bed and not in the crate? My puppy goes in the crate overnight. Dogs don't go on beds....not even beloved German Shepherds....lol
If you are more consistent with training the dog it might help? I don't know what kind of dog you have or how old but hope it works out.
But my bad puppy ate a piece of goat poop today, and also dragged out a dead squished rat from somewhere I had to remove from his mouth.....so some issues here to work on also

Sometimes you swear these things happen to try you because they push your buttons PERFECTLY!
I mean there's no way it could have been engineered by man to fail that exact way.
Sure your contractor is a putz but put a putz in satan's hands and you're in for a trial.
You've got my deepest sympathies.
Satan is trying to make you lose your cool.
I hope you get overtime.
Prayers for you my friend.

Oh yeah, I'm gonna get paid! OT is $44/hr and I'll get mine!😉

The dog was in her crate but if a 35kg pitbull wants to get out of a crate - even a heavy duty wire crate, she will..and she does.
I have several that hold testimony to her ability to destroy the doors on even the most heavy duty wire crate.
I am looking at a custom stainless steel dog box that pig hunters put their dogs in that are put on the back of trucks to house her in when she's inside.
Think of something used to hold a velociraptor and you'd be close.
Landshark's father was the same. He destroyed any crate he was put in.
She isn't allowed on the bed but when she gets free her first port of call is my bed and then it's the bathroom and then after that it's a free-for-all over the rest of the house and appliances.
She WAS house broken before I was sent for cancer treatment and now she isn't even with trying to re-educate her.

I had a friend with a rollback pick up Jakes Jeep today. On the way home I told him before we start working on it I want to see it cleaned up and all of the wasp living in it killed. He worked on cleaning it up all day in over 100 degree weather. The previous owner cut all of the wiring out of it. So while he was cleaning I started installing the Painless wiring harness that came with it. I got enough of the wiring completed that we could jump it across the solenoid and start it up. I have an extremely happy kid at the moment!

Why would not he?

At that age I got an old Ford boat with a bad windshield. Never saw the road.

Kudoes to Jake!

Go for it!

Had to actually shower and go in to the office for a bit today. Had to sign some paperwork and drop off some files. It was a good reminder to be thankful I'm not doing that every day anymore. Hot and stuffy in there, and then $94 at the gas station. Thanks, Brandon. Some storms rolled through, my weather station says we got .9" of rain which was badly needed, but it came in a 2 minute waterfall that simply knocked everything over. At least my truck got rinsed off, it was really dusty after the neighbor took off his wheat.

We have a couple of years to finish it, it needs a lot of work! I think it will be a great learning experience for him. We will go completely through before it’s done.

Today was a nice break from the heat. It was still hot but I had the doors and windows open until almost noon when it did get hot. Still under 90. Hopefully tonight will be cooler too.

Grabbed some groceries since we are seeing some thin shelves and Wednesdays and Fridays are when the trucks come in. Is it just me or is anyone else seeing a decrease in quality of fresh foods at the stores? The russet potatoes have been crap! Strawberries too!

Let the youngest doe hop around the house while I put away groceries. It was nice to let her out since it was cooler.

Just getting some laundry done and keeping cool.

Part of the custom build will be a water-tight, slide out floor tray - probs about 1 1/2 inches deep.
That way if she has a bathroom accident while she's in the box it won't leak out onto my flooring.

Took our daughter to visit my favorite cousin and her family, and we ended up staying for the noon meal. It all went downhill after my favorite cousin said that she didn't like Portland because it was full of gays. So trying to explain and apologize for my 74 yr old favorite amish cousin to our gay rights advocate daughter was a waste of time. Took her to the airport and she was glad to go. Says she hates this place, the whole state. Bummer it was such a horrible four days with us. Grandson and his girlfriend are at the rodeo in a town near us, got free tickets from his boss. Granddaughter worked a 10 hr day, so we didn't see her much at all. Tomorrow is state inspection day for our house, but have no idea what time the lady is coming. Have no idea what she is inspecting. She'll be in for a surprise if she inspects granddaughter's bedroom.

Did that paint really buff out that nice?😯

Great idea for TankGirl, the water proof mattress cover. Sure hope your tummy straightens out!

Nothing is simple anymore... remember the bee sting? Well, it just so happened that the pesky bee stung the one finger that was jammed back into my hand over 30 years ago. To this day, my left index finger is 1/4" shorter than my right, due to the severe jamming back in the day. Well, the bee sting made the whole area itch, so I wound up rubbing it pretty hard, and now the whole area is inflamed and swollen... not necessarily due to the bee sting, but to my aggravating the old injury. My left hand isn't quite the lobster claw it was when the original injury occurred so long ago, but it's definitely puffed up, as you'll see in a moment. Limited use of my left hand means no painting today... I don't think my left index finger could wrap around a paint roller handle anyway, it's still mighty stiff & sore. Looks like I'll be reading Westerns and watching library DVDs today... this hand will be worthless for a while. And it was all brought on by a lousy bee sting 30+ years after the original injury... jeez, my luck hasn't been so hot this month, lol. Here are pics:

View attachment 90787

That's a shot of my right hand for reference, now here's the swollen left hand:

View attachment 90788

See how puffed up it is? My hand looks like the Michelin Man, or maybe the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man, lol.

Here's a side view of the uninjured right hand, you can see how straight and level it is at that joint:

View attachment 90789

And here's the f/u left hand, including the uneven area where the index finger got jammed back into the hand bones so long ago:

So THAT is what I'm dealing with today, pfffffffft. There may still be some residual bee venom in there, so I'm gonna try hot water next, I read on the web that hot water will neutralize bee venom, same way hot water will neutralize stingray venom. Let me post this so I can get started on that regimen... ice isn't working, so it's time for hot water, maybe I'll even add some Epsom salts, I see that's used in poultices for sprains & strains in horses, lol. Somehow, this bee sting has morphed into a resurrection of the old finger & hand injury sustained over 30 years ago. Nothing is simple anymore!!!

Edit: Good news is that I have heaps of beer in the fridge, plenty of leftover beef tri-tip barbacoa for burritos, and a good stack of library books & DVDs, WOOHOO!!! Never did watch 'CROSS OF IRON' yesterday, I read a good Western instead, one of the 'John Hawk' Westerns by Charles G. West. Gotta like the 'John Hawk' series, he's a pretty funny character, lol. In a way, he reminds me of 'Will Tanner, U.S. Deputy Marshal'---but Hawk is an Army scout, not a lawman. Anyway, it's time to give the hot water & Epsom salts a try, so I'm off... "CHEERS!!!"
In this thread, Peanut tells how to treat the itch from insect bites. How to treat unknown bug bites

Another day in the shed. Designated a shelf for cables and wire.

View attachment 90806

Top shelf stores tarps and sand bags.

View attachment 90807

But with temps inside the shed over 90 frequent breaks were not enough. Feeling light headed is not good.

I checked the garlic I had harvested last week but after snipping the top of one bulb 6" up the stem there was still green. Not ready yet.

Still looking for something productive to do I found a project The Princess brought home last weekend. She was at an event that was giving away herb plants free to anyone over 60. Guessing they think old people need to grow stuff to stay lively.

View attachment 90808

I transplanted them into a stacking flower thingy and put them on the kitchen table to surprise her when she gets home. If they take and grow they should look pretty cool. The oregano smelled amazing. Made me want something with oregano in it.

Some reading this afternoon.

Ben
Daughter has one of those planters. We spent the summer of 2020, pandemic, growing lots. I found a guy who was selling strawberry starts and I got her some for her planter. I watered for her a few times. I think the concept is not a bad idea, but I don't think these are deep enough.
