Been out in the gulf fishing with my uncle for a few days. We took his jet down to Destin and had a hell of a nice time.
I really needed a break and it was a great time!Love red snapper, fishing, Gulf waters, boats. Glad you were able to get away.
We hauled in a couple of sharks in the 250 lb range and had several break off. When we would get them to the surface a deckhand would shoot the shark and cut the line. That's the way to go right there... the fishing shots remind me of my time as a deckhand aboard a sportfisher out of San Diego. My favorite fish were probably the albacore tuna, they'd be flopping around the deck one moment and sizzling on the grill the next, lol... mighty tasty in sandwiches with mayo, lettuce & tomato!
I am curious why they shot the sharks? Was it to get them safely onto the boat?We hauled in a couple of sharks in the 250 lb range and had several break off. When we would get them to the surface a deckhand would shoot the shark and cut the line.
They shot the sharks because you couldn’t get a fish up without the sharks eating them. I’m sure they fish the same spots daily.I am curious why they shot the sharks? Was it to get them safely onto the boat?
I like to have something to do with my hands and something else going on, such as watching a movie. I cannot just sit and watch a movie, or just remove seeds from a sunflower. Put the two together, I can do it. I have done lots of quilting this way.Working on getting the seeds out of the mammoth head sunflowers. Did four heads and have a gallon zip of seeds drying. A good thing to do while we were watching tv with a tv tray. Showed little granddaughter earlier, and she saw a small bug, and that was the end of that! We have so many mammoth heads right now, that I figure I'll do a few a night.
It sounds like a good plan. Burning will work if you keep burning the plants as soon as they sprout. Whatever method you use, you may have to keep at it for years. We call it the Devil Weed. Many around here with gravel strips use a flame thrower to keep them weed and grass free but they keep at it weekly.Yeah, it's a tough plant, and it thrives in a hot & generally dry climate like I have here... but I'm happy with the progress I made today, many of the vines pulled had heaps of goatheads on 'em, still too green to simply fall off, so they made it into the trash bin. I scraped a hundred or more smaller vines (sprouts) at ground level with the hoe, whether they come back or not remains to be seen. Thanks to yesterday's rain, many of the larger vines pulled right up, long taproot and all... so I made a dent in the rather large puncturevine population. Clearly, this is a problem I inherited with the home, the old folks who were here before probably couldn't keep up with the damned vines.
I'm still gonna try burning layers of needles over the 'carpets' of young puncturevines... I have needles galore to burn, so why NOT give it a shot? If the vines are damaged or destroyed to the point where no goathead development occurs, that will surely reduce the overall vine numbers. I'm talking about a lot of young vines, so if I can make a dent in the overall population, I'll be doing alright. Better than just leaving them to explode into even greater numbers next year. Luckily, my timing was good in this endeavor, and I caught the larger mats of puncturevine before the hundreds of goatheads on them were "ripe" enough to fall off... the burrs were still firmly attached to each vine, so into the trash bin they went!
I certainly do NOT want to use Roundup or any other poison on my property if I can help it, no future in that, lol. And I don't want to waste money on a flamethrower UNLESS burning works with the needles... and if it does, I'll probably just use more needles, there's no shortage of those here, including needles from last fall which are still under the trees out back (or to the west). I raked up heaps of needles in February & March to start fires in my stone fire ring out front (east side), and they burned like nobody's business... as long as these needles out back are dry when I torch 'em, they should go up just as quickly. Again, even if I slow or reduce the puncturevine population explosion, I'm ahead of the game, lol.
Gorgeous! Calm and beautiful, I love it.A tree came down across the access path leading to The Ridge.

I opted for the saws-all over the chainsaw because the trunk was levered over the hill and was going to move once I start cutting it up.
The path is clear now.

Since I was there I took walk to what I could see. The 2 English walnuts to the left (see caution tape) were transplanted last winter are hanging in there. The brush in the center will be cleared for the vineyard I have been cloning grape vines for.

Hope all goes well at the vet.I have to take the dog to the vet today. He has had the runs for about 2 weeks. I took him off his food n have been making chicken n rice for him but his gut is still messed up. I had a fecal done n he is clean. I thought maybe he has giardia since we've been in the mountains alot. So..I'm going to water everything good, vet run n hit the thrift store. Grab a friends dog to doggy sit for a few days n work on my rug n do inside stuff. It's going to be hot..104 today n tomorrow.
Meator shower from 3 different sources tonight!
I sprayed peppermint oil around out feeders and the wasps seem to be staying away.Goldurned bees & wasps are drinking their share as well,
Keep one inside & it will live if you water itI'm off today, went grocery shopping, picked cucs, tomatoes, and squash from the garden. I splurged at the grocery store a picked 2 live rosemary plants, I can kill those things better than anyone I know...
