Been out in the gulf fishing with my uncle for a few days. We took his jet down to Destin and had a hell of a nice time.

That's the way to go right there... the fishing shots remind me of my time as a deckhand aboard a sportfisher out of San Diego. My favorite fish were probably the albacore tuna, they'd be flopping around the deck one moment and sizzling on the grill the next, lol... mighty tasty in sandwiches with mayo, lettuce & tomato!

We hauled in a couple of sharks in the 250 lb range and had several break off. When we would get them to the surface a deckhand would shoot the shark and cut the line.

I am curious why they shot the sharks? Was it to get them safely onto the boat?

Working on getting the seeds out of the mammoth head sunflowers. Did four heads and have a gallon zip of seeds drying. A good thing to do while we were watching tv with a tv tray. Showed little granddaughter earlier, and she saw a small bug, and that was the end of that! We have so many mammoth heads right now, that I figure I'll do a few a night.
I like to have something to do with my hands and something else going on, such as watching a movie. I cannot just sit and watch a movie, or just remove seeds from a sunflower. Put the two together, I can do it. I have done lots of quilting this way.

Yeah, it's a tough plant, and it thrives in a hot & generally dry climate like I have here... but I'm happy with the progress I made today, many of the vines pulled had heaps of goatheads on 'em, still too green to simply fall off, so they made it into the trash bin. I scraped a hundred or more smaller vines (sprouts) at ground level with the hoe, whether they come back or not remains to be seen. Thanks to yesterday's rain, many of the larger vines pulled right up, long taproot and all... so I made a dent in the rather large puncturevine population. Clearly, this is a problem I inherited with the home, the old folks who were here before probably couldn't keep up with the damned vines.

I'm still gonna try burning layers of needles over the 'carpets' of young puncturevines... I have needles galore to burn, so why NOT give it a shot? If the vines are damaged or destroyed to the point where no goathead development occurs, that will surely reduce the overall vine numbers. I'm talking about a lot of young vines, so if I can make a dent in the overall population, I'll be doing alright. Better than just leaving them to explode into even greater numbers next year. Luckily, my timing was good in this endeavor, and I caught the larger mats of puncturevine before the hundreds of goatheads on them were "ripe" enough to fall off... the burrs were still firmly attached to each vine, so into the trash bin they went! ;)

I certainly do NOT want to use Roundup or any other poison on my property if I can help it, no future in that, lol. And I don't want to waste money on a flamethrower UNLESS burning works with the needles... and if it does, I'll probably just use more needles, there's no shortage of those here, including needles from last fall which are still under the trees out back (or to the west). I raked up heaps of needles in February & March to start fires in my stone fire ring out front (east side), and they burned like nobody's business... as long as these needles out back are dry when I torch 'em, they should go up just as quickly. Again, even if I slow or reduce the puncturevine population explosion, I'm ahead of the game, lol.
It sounds like a good plan. Burning will work if you keep burning the plants as soon as they sprout. Whatever method you use, you may have to keep at it for years. We call it the Devil Weed. Many around here with gravel strips use a flame thrower to keep them weed and grass free but they keep at it weekly.

I opted for the saws-all over the chainsaw because the trunk was levered over the hill and was going to move once I start cutting it up.

The path is clear now.

Since I was there I took walk to what I could see. The 2 English walnuts to the left (see caution tape) were transplanted last winter are hanging in there. The brush in the center will be cleared for the vineyard I have been cloning grape vines for.

Gorgeous! Calm and beautiful, I love it.

Ooh, nice fish!

Talked to my friend about my computer issues. I threw a few ideas out and he approved of the one of trying a different outlet with a surge protector. Got a better look at my APC & saw that a cat thew up a hairball on it. Saliva/stomach acid must have gone down into the vents. The port my computer plugged to was corroded. I did some troubleshooting & have it moved to a different port through a surge protector. If the power goes off it will still stay on and its protected from surges. Too bad the shorting out killed a couple of the USB ports on the computer though. But I have enough I was able to move things to different ports. My keyboard cover also has extra ports on it.

Went to the store with my friend & got him some food, tp, and milk. He's still on liquid only food. Found some pencils in school supply display (I can never find my pencils). Got some lightbulbs, etc.

I mentioned my sister doing programming for nuclear missiles. The audio in this is from an actual tutorial for military personnel about how the missile guidance system worked:

I have to take the dog to the vet today. He has had the runs for about 2 weeks. I took him off his food n have been making chicken n rice for him but his gut is still messed up. I had a fecal done n he is clean. I thought maybe he has giardia since we've been in the mountains alot. So..I'm going to water everything good, vet run n hit the thrift store. Grab a friends dog to doggy sit for a few days n work on my rug n do inside stuff. It's going to be hot..104 today n tomorrow.
Meator shower from 3 different sources tonight!

Thinking about a town run to look at flamethrowers, lol... I'm still gonna try the pine needle method for burning certain areas carpeted with small puncturevines, but the goathead invasion is extensive and I may need every weapon I can get to eliminate these pesky weeds. It's a Class B Noxious Weed... dunno why it's listed Class B, you'd think it'd be Class A, given the amount of trouble it causes.

Might as well grab some more beer while I'm in town, that'll save a trip later... I need more sugar for the hummingbird feeders too, those hummers are really going through the sugar water. Goldurned bees & wasps are drinking their share as well, it's funny to see a hummer trying to work around those pesky insects. Meh, the hummers usually find an empty port, or go to another nearby feeder, I have four HB feeders in the yard.

I don't begrudge the bees & wasps any sugar water, even though I was recently stung near a birdbath... I like having the pollinators around, and the wasps haven't been too much bother. I haven't seen any wasp's nest yet, dunno where they're dwelling, but as long as they don't become problematic, I don't mind their presence. If they become a problem, I'll locate their nest and destroy it... until then, they're welcome at the bar, lol.

Funny thing, the wasps seem to really like those 'Woodpecker Logs' I have suspended from trees on the north end of the property... they crawl all over 'em, eating the sugary 'cement' used to hold the logs together. I'm guessing it's sugary, and that draws the wasps... again, no problem, as long as the wasps mind their manners, lol. The birds can still access the rather large logs, so no worries... those logs go fast too, I buy new ones about once a month.

Well, I'd better get cleaned up and head into town, don't wanna be there once it gets hot... though our weather has been somewhat cooler recently, which is nice, an unexpected break from the heat. Last night, it cooled down enough for me to think about pulling a sheet on top of me... during the summer months I usually sleep atop all sheets, no other covers whatsoever. I open a nearby window once it's cool enough, just to get the fresh air. Better sleep that way... :)

More work on the future greenhouse. My sister had nabbed an insulated shipping container the vaccine was shipped in.

The Princess decided she wants it handy in the event we have a freezer fail. Fine with me. That means it gets stashed in her area not mine.

After some more stashing in the shed we have this.

I have to figure what I can get away with the make this space functional on a minimal budget. I want to get through a winter to see what is lacking. I can improve it with good windows and an insulated wall etc. at a later date.

Got up before 7am this morning (normally K and I wait til the kids come and get us to get out of bed on the weekend). We emptied our room of everything but the bed and dresser. Vacuumed the floor then I shampooed it. I am tired! Moving furniture and junk for several hours in the humid morning is not how I wanted to spend my morning but whatever.

K is putting things back now that the carpet is dry. I still smell cat in there so I think we should check everything before it goes back in the room. Might be the current litter boxes that we stashed in the closet for the time being. We had to replace the litter bench we had to hide 2 of the litter boxes as the cats were hanging out in the bench and peeing in between the litter pans.

Of course we are using this as a big purge of the master bedroom. I have boxes of gifts and toys I bought over the years for the girls that they might have liked but now have no interest in those types of items. I am going through them all and making up boxes of brand new toys for the annual toy drive at the fire station. I have toys the girls picked out over the last few years but we never got the chance to take because of the 'bug'. Now I will have BOXES of toys to take and will clean out things we don't need from our home. I'm sure we will have more to get rid of before next year but it is nice clearing things out now.

I'm off today, went grocery shopping, picked cucs, tomatoes, and squash from the garden. I splurged at the grocery store a picked 2 live rosemary plants, I can kill those things better than anyone I know...
Keep one inside & it will live if you water it 😁

I was thinking how lush that all looks then read those very words.

Drove 3.5 hrs to where I grew up to attend a Fiber Festival. I'd never been to one before so that was fun. Met a gal there who is like another mom to me. I won ram horn buttons in their raffle which I will use whenever I make myself some moccasins. Beautiful drive but 7 hrs in one day is more than enough. Came home and Hubby had gone and gotten Greek for us - yum.

Took 2 days to remove those ash trees, my friend would not take any extra money for it then what he quoted me, should have been double what he asked. Good to have friends that are that good to me. Glad to have them down as they were dying off. Today will be a visit day, my cousin and a friend and my SIL who has come up from NC to stay a while with my MIL. Will have supper with them today.
