Got to take the new dog to the vet to finish her rattlesnake shot series and both dogs to get bordetella just in case I have to board someday.
Give them a good walk after..
Then off to get trash to the dump.
N home.
I'm finding it strange to not having to plan my chores n todos list in a weekend. So much of what do I have to do revolved around having stuff done n ready for the next work week.
I hate not knowing what's going on ..like how did the fire marshal and insurance inspection go?? Any good or bad news??
Being in limbo is frustrating..
Weather is comming in it looks like..be a good day to chill after ..

RACE WEEKEND!!! :woo hoo:
No stinking apps necessary, no admission fees... just the way it should be in Redneck Land! :dancing:

No need to go early today, I'm not gonna stand around for hours watching riders register, lol... which reminds me, I'll have to put my good camp chairs in the trunk so I can spectate in comfort! Sky is cloudy, so I'm taking the car, along with some foul weather gear just in case the rain or snow arrives early, lol.

Good news about the camp chairs: they have little folding tables on one side, and cup holders too! For my beer! Lol. I'm gonna load my cooler with steaks & trimmings as well, just in case I hook up with some hands who are already BBQing, aye? I *could* load my BBQ and drag it down there, but it seems like too much trouble, there will be folks in RVs with BBQs set up outside... I'll just find the right folks and glom onto their party, lol. But I'll bring extra steaks & beers! ;)

Oh, yeah, since this is a special occasion, I'll bring weed too... haven't had much of that lately, and I bought some buds from one of our local dispensaries. Something called "Chem Fuego" (28% THC), and another called "Snow Wreck" (24%), which seemed appropriate since it's still winter, lol. Who comes up with these names for weed nowadays? They're like modern skateboard tricks: too complicated, too many stupid names nowadays... pffffft. And when did a simple "wheelie" become a "manual?" What IDIOT came up with THAT name? 😒

Meh, that's my rant for the day, lol... I already fed the cats & birds, and I removed the covers from the fruit trees, the next few nights should be above freezing (according to the forecast). I'm looking forward to spring, and no more covering the trees... a PITA, but I reckon it's worth it, and hopefully the saplings will grow more stout this season. So far, they've survived multiple hard freezes in the teens, temp-wise, which is good, but I'd like to see 'em grow more robust this spring & summer. We shall see... alright, guess I'll go post those other trucking pics so my camera card will be empty for the race. Note to self: don't forget to charge camera battery! 😬

Oh man hopefully no one!!
How’s @rice paddy daddy doing?? Did I miss a post on how his hospitalization is going?
Maybe that can be the threes and we don’t have to have any more of our friends injured or hurt 😞
It's Saturday morning, and I'm home.
Thursday when they checked my hemoglobin level it had fallen since surgery. They were concerned that I may still be bleeding. It had dropped from 8.1 to the mid 7's.
Doctor decided to give me two units of blood, which was done in the middle of the night. Friday morning it was 9.7, checking again at 3 PM it had risen to 10.1. Praise God!!
I was released at 6:00 PM.
Total hospital time - almost 4 days. I'm very glad I have an excellent Medicare supplemental that will pay 100%.

Being home with my wife of 33 years and our dogs is the best medicine.
We're just poor country folks. Don't have very much money, but we are rich beyond measure.

ricepaddydaddy, I'm glad you're home and your hemoglobin levels are better. I hope you are feeling better.

Dog woke me up early this morning because the neighbor's dogs were in the yard again. She's afraid of them but she woofs and growls at them through the window. I am concerned that they might attack my cats when the weather is warmer and the cats go out. Right now the kitties want to be inside where it is warm.

The cold air is making me cough more which my bladder doesn't like. I managed to finish clearing out my tub. Threw away a bunch of old stuff I'll never use. Found a bottle of shampoo that is 20+ years old. Re-assembled my rolling cart with pull-out bins that was in my bathroom in Singapore in the 90s. It is a bit wonky but it still went together. I need to find a few more things before the reno and I need to order my curbside pickup stuff for sunday. I need to go over the list with my friend to make sure we aren't missing anything. The tub drain will have to wait for changes at a later date, but the shower trim and showerhead can get changed out. I need to locate where I put the new tub spout, but worst case I can use the old one until I find the new one.

I went up to the coffee shop this morning. While there, the lady running the shop asked me to do her a favor and haul two big trash bags out to the dumpster for her. She's elderly, so I said "Sure, no problem" and carried them out. It was snowing heavily, very large fluffy flakes, and the snow was two inches deep. I took two steps out the door and my feet went right out from under me! I fell on my back and cracked the back of my head on a solid sheet of ice under that snow. There's a pretty good knot back there and I'm still not feeling quite right, although it's better now than it was right after it happened. I'm debating going to get it checked out. I have mild pain behind my eyes and my neck is sore like I twisted it. My kid is here now and we'll monitor the situation and go to the nearest hospital if necessary.
This is so scary and dangerous. It made me think of the concussion my daughter got about a year ago, which had her thinking of the many previous times in life that she probably had them. She counted the potential of 8 concussions from playing soccer, hang gliding, sky diving (when she broke her ankle), fainting and hitting her head on the way down.

This is why I am so careful about shoveling snow and chipping away at ice. We have had the worst winter for it. I have been super careful, haven't fallen yet (knock on wood) but I have had a few people tell me that they have fallen several times. When I am walking where the sidewalk is not clear, I walk like an old lady, which I am now.

You probably have a concussion. This happened to me once at a theme park in Orlando. I slipped and fell on wet pavement wearing flip flops. But it actually knocked me out for a minute or few. They took me to the hospital in the ambulance and did a scan on my head . If you feel nauseous you probably have one , mine was bad for about 3 days. I couldn't even read anything, my vision was blurry.
I have been places where signs said no flip flops. There must be some record or information that talks about how dangerous they can be.

I wore them when I was younger. I was wearing a pair when I went through Wind Cave in the Black Hills. One broke while I was down there. I haven't worn them in decades, but there is some convenience to them.

Some highlights or lowlights of the week:

I've got a dog that I am boarding this weekend, while his owner gets married. It is kind of exciting because this guy is in his mid-30s and has never really dated. I guess he met the right girl. They are going to come and get the dog for photos.

I had a tire blow out earlier this week, I think Monday. I was on an exit ramp from the highway and heard a couple pops and something hit under my vehicle. I then realized I was getting a flat, but had to keep driving a couple blocks to find a place to park. Can't park in busy traffic! This is a new to me vehicle, so I had never changed a tire on it. I looked and looked and couldn't figure out where to place the jack. I ended up calling AAA to come change it for me. I think this is a first for me to not change my own flat. By the time they arrived, I had loosened all the lug nuts that I could, taken out the spare, and was just waiting, but not too long. It took the guy about 5 minutes to change the tire because I had done all of that prep, thinking that I was going to change it myself. I did ask him for future reference, where to place the jack. That information was not in the booklets in the glove box.
One of the first questions the guy asked me when he called to tell me that he was on his way, "Do you have a spare?" I did. I had a brand new tire that I had put on the spare rim last fall, replacing the really old donut tire that would have been worthless to put on. We saw the hole in the tire. I thought I probably ran over something, and the hole was large enough that it was questionable if it could be repaired.
I went the next morning to get that tire replaced with a new tire, and had them both put on, and one of the ones that was taken off is now a spare.
I was talking to a guy about this whole thing. He told me that his roommate had a situation on that same ramp. The blacktop is so chewed up, it is almost impossible to not hit a pothole. I've tried and tried not to! His roommate hit a spot there and spun out, hitting a wall there recently, not totally wrecking his vehicle, but damaging it.
I am grateful that I wasn't on the highway when this happened. Thankfully, it was a rear tire, but ugh.
I know that if I was driving in Wyoming, Montana, Nebraska, North or South Dakota, none of this would have been easy.

The snow is mostly melted, except a patch which is now packed ice in front of the gate I usually use at the dog park. I'll need to take my shovel there and chip away at it, again.

Weedygarden, that sounds rough. I'm glad you got the tire replaced and didn't crash over the tire blowing out.

I tore the wall panels down from around my tub. Still need to get the one with the showerhead and stuff, but I need to get showerhead and spout off first. I'm about to order my walmart curbside pickup order.

Thank you. That was a first for me. In talking with others, I guess that having a blowout is not uncommon. For me, flat tires have always been slow and gradual, due to something in the tire such as a nail or screw. I had one of those a few weeks ago, a slow leak from a screw in the tire. As soon as I realized it, I drove to get it repaired.

I've had it about 3 times. Once I had a defective new tire in Guam. My insurance agent personally came out and changed the tire to a spare for me (my jack had been stolen when it was in a repair shop). Another time the tread delaminated from a tire and started shredding on a long drive. I pulled over and called for curbside assistance. And the last time was driving home. Pot holes were bad and I hit one that popped it. Was in a dead zone for cell signal so had to limp it back home no the rim. Fortunately, no injuries from any of them.

Packed a 33 gallon new trash can completely full with Lg, med, and small warm sweaters and jackets. Our teenager has finally moved out so this stuff has been accumalting and I am a sucker for super cheap warm cloths at yard sales and thrift stores. Packed it up, taped on the lid and wrote what is in the plastic can with silver permanent marker. I hope we don't need it but with the way things are going world wide I will be stashing more of this type of stuff.

Went to our small town Mardi Gras parade today pulling our Western Flyer red wagon about a mile with chairs & beer in it. (exercise done for today:))
137 floats that went on for 2-1/2 hours .
There were beads on every square foot of ground when they finished.
I only picked up a moon pie, and one necklace:thumbs::

Absolutely!!!! We were going on water rides at IOA and it was starting to storm, so we were running towards the exit and I slipped on the concrete....

But it gets worse: I was wearing flip flops when I stepped on the scythe and cut off half my foot....I don't own anymore flip flops.

Some of us learn from life's experiences, some do not. Wow, about your foot!

@rice paddy daddy - glad you are home, prayers for quick healing

@Spikedriver - man, I feel for you. It was months before I was back to 100% after my concussion. Blue light blocking glasses helped with screens and PT helped get my balance back. Hope yours is lighter and R&R is all you need to get back at it!

@Weedygarden - I agree on flip-flops. Never been a fan of them. Even when I was lifeguarding I'd rather be barefoot or with a solidly strapped on set of teva-style sandals than 'flops!

Spent most of the afternoon chasing a rooster that got out of the coop as I was transferring him to a travel case. My last hatch turned out to be 8 roos and 1 chick. I'm not a fan of processing birds indoors and it's too cold for outdoor processing, so I'm trading them to a local breeder for a discount on some day old chicks in March. I'm thinking I'll go for a sex-linked variety this go round :) I've never had a bird evade me for more than an hour with helpers, but I swear this bird either has super powers or has been demonically possessed because it's still free 4 hours into the battle. I'm hoping that leaving the growout pen and the greenhouse doors open with some scratch grain in them that I'll be able to trap it tonight.

Teva's, Chaco's or other versions of those solidly made sandals are so much better.

I know that everyone is not a fan of Croc's, but they work for me. I have a pair that I bought when they first came out. They are my yard and garden shoes. I can slip in and out of them easily. I can get them wet with no problem. Mine are so worn, there is almost no tread on the bottom.

@sonya123 I won’t do it but that deserves a bold, large font, major emoji kind of Ouch!

@rice paddy daddy So glad to hear you are home and your blood counts back up to live numbers again! Keep you well 💕

@Weedygarden Oy! Glad you made it off the ramp. That is not a good situation!

@zannej Now it wouldn’t be a proper project unless there’s at least once being held up by a parts run 😉

@TeeJ Rooster’s name Houdini. 😁

Flip flops are for the beach, for taking a shower in a locker room, or for Gen Zs that are so lazy they can't even be bothered to put on real shoes. Kind of like when they can't be bothered to put on real pants and only wear gym shorts every day. I see the kids here wearing gym shorts and flip flops when it's 10° outside. It makes me want to carry a 2x4 around and beat them...

I've been in Iowa in bad snow storms. It is not pretty. I'm sure there are people in Iowa who dress like some people do here in Colorado. Parka and shorts? Parka and flip flops? I know that some people feel warmer than others, but some people just look stupid.

This Michigan weather can give a person whiplash. A week ago we had rain, all the snow melted, and then it was 50 and sunny. I got Bike out and tried to go for a ride, but he still has some sort of electrical short and I barely made it back home. Then the temp dropped to 17 and we got more snow and a lot of crazy bad wind. Today it was back up to 34. I should be getting seeds started but haven't quite gotten that far yet. Had a really stressful week at work and spent today just dozing in my chair, couldn't wake up.
A lot sure has been happening with y'all since I last checked in. Sorry to learn of illnesses and fires and accidents. Best wishes for all of you.

I wear shoes I can run in, always be prepared!!

Long week at work. Lots of interviews, meetings, new work coming in, 2 techs out all week for training. UGH.
Got a new lawn mower last night and filled with oil and fuel this morning and set up the handlebar. Started on first pull. Mowed around all my fruit trees, blueberries, and raised beds, which is why I got it. Also started working on cleaning out some various berries I had let grow up. Still got more to go, but made good progress. Walked around the place this afternoon and making a list of work I need to do. Good night that'll take years. Good to know I've got plenty to do when I retire. LOL

BTW Lady Locust, This will cut way back on my weed eating!!!!! :dancing:

Moved furniture at work today! Yeah, I'm more than just your cleaning lady!🙄😉 So, figured since my back would probably hurt anyhow, I moved furniture at home too!🙄🙃 Switched Bear's chair in the den for the loveseat in the front living room! Big doggie can stretch out a little more now! Got to vacuum in places previously out of the vacuum's reach! Heading to bed, super tired! Will actually have a..........wait for it..........day off tomorrow!😮😮😮👍😃 List a mile long, taking Bear to the hike/bike trails for a couple few miles too!! See y'all in the morning, have a good night everyone!!

Yes indeed the shorts parka and flip flops is a phenomenom that can be observed even in winter time in montana. they ride around in their cars and evidently don't have a clue how serious it can get with the smallest car problem.
There was a really bad snow storm in South Dakota about a decade ago. That storm also took out more than 100,000 head of cattle. There were news reports of many people dying because of being ill prepared. One carload had people who had no shoes on and no coats, and they froze to death.
I tend to be on the other end of that. I travel with blankets, candles, lighters, food, water.

Got another batch of lard rendered today. I have more fat in the freezer today, but husband says it smells, so I'll give him a break and do the rest another day. Everyone at my favorite cousins place has this yuck cold, and she has it pretty bad, with a fever and cough, too. So we're not getting together tomorrow. Mine is stuck in my nose, so hopefully it'll go away soon. Just got back from a real fun time at my cousin Jay's barn. He had a bluegrass husband and wife team play from Kansas City, and they were excellent. Good food, and about 50 of us old people there to watch. We all chip in $ to make their personal concert worthwhile. Looking forward to the next people he gets. My cousin lives in a small town about a half hour away from our very small town, so these musicians wondered if he invited the whole town. Ha. They had never been in Partridge, KS before. Enjoyed them. They had some weird song titles, though, like, "Damnit Brad, don't pee on my bag". The last group was from Taos, NM. The band gets free lodging, get fed, and we all chip in some money.
