The neighbors that I drive their daughter to school each day came this morning and got my garden ready for planting. It looks so good tilled up and ready. Very cold today, though, so I worked on planting more seeds to put under the growlight. Put 6 dz eggs in the freezedryer, took out strawberries. Took the finger brace off finally today, and am just doing with the stripping and tape for now. It feels pretty weird after being braced and wrapped this long. Our pharmacist daughter in Oregon broke up with the boyfriend that we never met a couple of weeks ago. The man is desperate, moved back to Tucson where they started. He called my husband today for advice, and that was awkward. We've never spoken to the guy.

I slept most of the day. Was exhausted for no apparent reason. Doctor wants me to take Metformin 2x a day because my A1C was 8.5 or something.

I got food for mom and fed the kitties. Unboxed the shower wallset to clear a little space in my bathroom. Tried to clean the wall panel above the area that was damaged but the printed plywood delaminated and I got dirt in my eyes so I am taking a break and trying to figure out another way to tackle that issue.

Going to clean my building today. Quick grocery store run right after that. If it warms up enough (🙄), I need to wash my vehicles once, been putting it off because of the rain. Sitting here listening to coyotes close by! It's so nice and quiet, Hubby, Bear and the cats are sleeping! I love this time of the day!! I did get up too early, even for me, but Bear needed to go out! At least he lets me know!! I'll fit a fast nap in later! Everyone have a great Sunday!!

Well, well, "Peter", a community cat made an appearance after a couple weeks, snoozing in one of the BNB shelters. It is 19 degrees, at least he has a chance to get warm :)

I'll put "breakfast" out at 6

Puppy woke up early and wanted out.
It's snowing and about 16 degrees outside. VERY cold for almost spring. I hope no babies today or tomorrow. We have never had any in this sort of weather, hope they will be ok in the barn if there is any. Husband is about to go check. No fruit this year either, all the fruit trees except some apples blossomed already, and now froze.
I am now glad we didn't already get any chicks ( there weren't any) , way too cold, even with a heat lamp
Besides taking care of the animals we are going to organize the pantry ( food storage) today. We've been buying stuff and not putting it away or rotate with older stuff. I hate doing it, but it needs doing

Got my annual sheep maintenance completed yesterday. I'm happy to report that the power pruners worked better than expected for hoof trimming. There was a short learning curve, but once I used it, slowly at first, for a couple of sheep I started picking up its abilities and it made easy work for the rest.

After years of saying he would at least a thousand times, my dad finally really did sell of his cattle herd. The prices at auction were excellent. Bears warning to the rest of us: beef will be in short supply. Means prices are likely to rise. Cattle inventory nationwide has not been this low since 1986. That's alarming news because it will increase demand and prices for chicken, pork, lamb, turkey, ostrich, eggs, protein in general? I don't know about crickets.

Glad your sheep hoof trimming went well. What sort of power pruner?

So did you dad sell because he is retiring or some other reason? Just curious

We just sent some lamb and goats to the auction and got about average prices. If meat becomes short in supply again, we will do well at the farmers market selling ours.

Pollen. That is the color of my car! I need to wash it, but no point right now.

Church first this morning. Made two coffeecakes last night for refreshments. It is our first time to meet at new location. Methodist fellowship hall. We will pay a designated amount for utilities and a small amount for a pastor to come from seminary. This will help the Methodist Church as they only have 10 or 12 members, I am told. Details still up in the air about sale of our original Church building and monies. Only the preacher who pushed for the sale knows anything. Sigh.
Later, will walk dogs.
Purge laundry room shelves and be done with that room.

I am meeting a friend at the Cigar Bar today. We will watch the Golf tournament, and whatever Spring Training Baseball game is on, and solve all the problems of the world. Very relaxing even if my wife does make me undress in the laundry room when I get home. I did the dishes last night.

Today here is Mothers Day, I had to meet my sis to collect parcels from her, so husband took me for an unnecessarily expensive breakfast (everywhere has gone up in price ,won't be doing that for a while) the place was full of parents with babies and toddlers; husband goes 'aww' I go 'I don't miss that at all' :D Kids are cooking dinner later, I've some college work to get on with. Spent yesterday watching rugby, chores and knitting. Have a few projects I want to get finished.

@sonya123 . Dad is getting old and losing mobility. Especially after going through chemo. The treatment to save his life nearly killed him. But he has the belief that if he sold his herd, he'd fade away without reason for living? First, I told him that didn't work for his best friend. Second, I told him that life is gonna change whether you resist it or not. (at that point I realized I was wasting my breath because he is so hard set in ways)

The power pruners I bought for sheep hooves are sold on eBay **** brand. There's several to choose from. They are designed for pruning tree limbs, typically up to one inch diameter. I wanted an extra battery for run time total 4 hours. It worked better than I expected. I finished all 21 ewes and two rams, including inoculated ivomec, adding colored zip ties and updating records. 3.5 hours. Didn't need the spare battery. No blisters. No fore arm soreness. A little sore back, but that's to be expected?

Today we did church.

The wife is planning on making a quilted Christmas tree skirt, she has picked out 11 different Christmas fabrics and today I took the time to do the math to make her pattern(s). It will be a simple wagon wheel design with a 28" total radius using each of the fabrics twice. The outside will have a 6" ring so she can match two different fabrics on each spoke... It will keep her happy and busy for months... ;)

I think I mentioned back around new year a storm blew the summer kitchen roof up and flooded things. After nearly two weeks, they were finally able to get a hold of the owner of this property about getting it fixed. They came and tarped it until they could come repair it. This past week was it. They put a new roof on the house. It had 3 layers of roofing! (Bad). So all now off, a few boards replaced and new roof on. Looks much better and maybe won’t even loose shingles with each storm. They began on the summer kitchen with a new roof- we thought was just old poorly installed metal. Well there were evidently shingles under the metal. They got it down to the 1 x 12 “ceiling” boards which meant that stuff fell through. 😭. There was a nasty layer over everything. Nobody said anything to us. I’ve spent the last two days cleaning and washing! Had to take most the contents out completely. I’ve done 8-9 loads of laundry 🧺 mountains of “dishes,” and swept and vacuumed a ton. Hubby came home early yesterday to help. The summer kitchen is where I hang my laundry and do a lot of my canning to give you an idea of what’s out there. It’s nearly cleaned up. They aren’t finished yet so I have plastic sheeting over everything. There have been a couple other things of such caliber this past week also. I think I’m ready to hit the mountains for a few days.

Morning chores, then on to mom's old apartment in assisted living. Loaded up some things to bring to her new room in the nursing side. Hung up some pictures for her and put away a number of things. Home for afternoon animal chores, and then off to my favorite cousins for dinner and visiting. We realized alot of things are awaiting answers this week: will the twins be allowed by the judge to move out with the other family? Will the grade school shut down next school for lack of students, and send them to the neighboring town's school? Will Trump be arrested?

Long day yesterday, replaced a headlight on my SUV and it was quite the ordeal. Had to remove the trim under the hood, around the fender and unfasten 1/2 the bumper and fender to get to the bottom screw of the headlight. Also had the panels on the rear doors start sagging and stick - being almost impossible to open. Guess when they did warranty work on the door latches they just ripped the panels off and damaged the panel clips. Have a bag of new/improved clips on order. Thanks, Ford!
Cats are settling back into home. They will "risk" being in the same room with the puppy as long as they are sever feet away from him. Feels like they'll be tolerating each other soon :)

Today will be interesting
I have a Bulova 14k gold watch and I opened it to look at the workings
I found a cartouche that dates the watch 1914 or 1934. Cartouche was used both years
So, off to a jeweler to find out the value of the watch as a vintage watch vs spot value of the gold

Ford is a four letter word!

At least the summer kitchen will be ready for summer! Sounds like a good time for a mountain escape!♥️🏔️🐻🎷

My vehicles are dust, with pollen highlights!😃 Oh, and cat paw prints!!😺

Problem yesterday. It was super cold, below freezing all day and one of our goats went into labor in the evening. She was trying to push a baby out for 2 hours and nothing so I suspected something was wrong. She usually has no problems. I had to pull all 3 out. They were all backwards, tangled up and not in the right position. I have never actually had to reach in and do this before but the vet showed me a month ago when she pulled out the sheep. The first one was hard, I had to pull very hard on the legs and was sure I injured him but he was fine. Second one was ok also, and it appeared the last one a girl was ok at first but she's not looking too good today. It was 9 degrees this morning. We do not have a heated barn. I did what I could and put blankets and lots of straw in the stall, but she doesn't seem to want to nurse.
The mom seems to be ok but I did give her a shot of antibiotic this morning just in case. I hope I didn't injure her insides, but it was either pull the babies or most likely all dead. Don't think we could have gotten a vet out in time last night.
#$@%%!!! weather!!

@sonya123 I've pulled lots of calves. It always seems I'm going to hurt them but I never do. Hurt her insides? With cattle... Rarely, very rarely a uterine prolapse birth will occur. Basically the uterus will detach then turn inside out like taking off a sock. It's not a pretty sight.

All farmers can do is push the uterus back in, stitch the vulva shut to hold it and hope to get her to the sale barn before she dies. They are sold as pet food. At the sale barn I sometimes see a cow in the arena that was sewn shut. It works if there is a partial prolapse.

The two times I had it occur the cow died from internal bleeding, never stood up again. They were almost a complete prolapse, a real mess. The main arteries to the uterus were torn, bled out in about a half hour. I couldn't find the arteries to stitch them off. Not easy when shoulder deep in the cow with one hand trying to feel the bleed blindly.

No plans for the day, started off well. Feel almost decent this morning, hope it lasts.
