We usually use a shovel for those , glad the boy didn't get bit. That's a terrible thing. I worked with a surveyor that got bit clearing some brush . He almost died and lost a large chunk of flesh on his forearm. Those things scare me and I don't dislike snakes
A friend who lives near me got bit by a Pygmy rattlesnake a couple weeks ago. She immediately went to the ER and got more than one shot of anti venom and ended up in ICU. She got bit in the ankle. She’s okay now but needed a cane for a bit.

I successfully completed the task of mowing the grass on the riding lawn mower on Monday. According to the doctor, I am suffering from heat exhaustion. Lately, I have experienced fatigue and weakness, but my overall condition has significantly improved.
Be sure to stay hydrated. Drink lots of water.

Yeah, this ongoing heat wave is brutal... I'm being careful not to overdo it with the chores and yard work, as we still have a ways to go yet with the friggin' heat. I'm not as tough as I used to be, that's for sure... in my youth, I'd go out and do stuff in heat like this, but now I just wanna kick it in the A/C and drink cold beer, lol. Meh, this heat wave will end sooner or later, and that'll be it... many plants in the yard have gone kaput, cooked by the sun & heat, but others are still hanging in there! So I'm focusing my watering efforts upon the stuff that's doing alright, no point in watering the dead or obviously dying plants. The weed runt is toast, it's totally brown and shriveled, but the larger plants are still alive, they're just not growing much due to the heat and drought... it's like they're in defensive mode and just hanging on to life until the stupid heat wave ends. I'll be glad when it's over, believe me, it was old when it began... 😒

Don't mess around with that - yep, that's an order from Dr. Me! :) Eat your greens and get your salts as well as keeping to the shady spots.

Just dropped off little granddaughter to a neighbor friend's place for swimming, and realized she took my flip phone instead of hers that she uses when she's not with us. Oh well. We had her last swim lesson this morning, grabbed Chic fil a for lunch, and were at husband's infectious disease docs for awhile afterwards. Got his midline out. CT scan in a week or so. He's napping, I'm wiped out. Have a million things to do that I've neglected around here, but will coffee up first. Chick number 3 just hatched. So shnook. That's Penn Dietsch for cute.

Definitely sounds like it.

I think I misunderstood your original post. You ended it with "Consequently, I was raised that it was better to drop dead than to see a doctor." By that, I thought you were making fun of Doc. Mooney and what he did. Any doctor "in a town" as you described, who used wire cutters "from his pocket", to amputate fingers in the "mid 1970's" (that would have been 50 years ago as you stated) deserves to be ridiculed.

But you weren't making fun of Doc. Mooney, you were celebrating him. A bit weird that is, but I didn't see that initially. Sorry to have jumped on the bandwagon to laugh at the guy, when you were actually driving the bandwagon in the opposite direction to cheer him on. Oops. Mea culpa.

No, he does not deserve to be rediculed nor does he deserve to be celebrated over any one else and I never meant to imply anything either way. Mea culpa. No band wagons up until this point.

I was merely telling of an incident in my past thinking someone might like to know how life without modern luxuries and advanced medical knowledge was. You may have a case of normalcy bias if you think life was that modern every where, in the 70's. It was not.

I acknowledge my attempt at humor was lame.

I realize some or all, might think I am telling whoppers but so be it. The band wagon is officially tipped over and burning.

Wingnut,

Up north we can buy rolls of burlap for winter wrapping small trees and bushes. I am having good luck using it as shade cloth. It really helps with the excessive heat and sun. It is light enough to drape directly on the plants. Not pretty, but it keeps them alive and healthy?

I have been digging and processing garlic for a few days now. The last batch is curing in the greenhouse now.

I estimate maybe 3-4 lbs for planting in September and 6-8 for consumption.

After dealing the garlic for days I broke down and am roasting some odds n ends now. I am hoping the smell of it roasting will tempt The Princess to skip Kung Fu tonight and stay home to indulge.

Ben

Wrap the garlic up in foil with butter and a whole onion
Put in a smoker at 200 degrees for 3 or 4 hours
Then eat

I like a good Margarita... strawberry, peach, whatever. I like Daiquiris too, which is what I call the drink when I use fresh blackberries. Sometimes I mix berries, and sometimes I toss a bag of frozen berries into the blender. All good...

Spent my day quietly, just riding out the heat... tomorrow I may try to finish that kitchen rehab work. On days when I run to town, I don't feel like doing much afterward, I'd rather just relax, ya know? Still, the town run went smoothly... 😒

Between the Injuns and the border bandidos, we have some BAD drivers here... any run to town which does NOT involve a fender-bender of some sort is a GOOD run, lol. Moi, I'm a defensive driver, it's all about avoidance, lol... 😉

Even in the Walmart parking lot---ESPECIALLY in the Walmart parking lot---ya gotta watch the fooliots who think the parking lot is a racetrack, lol. I'm surprised there aren't MORE fender-benders in that lot, it's a madhouse, aye? 😳

Okay, I'm back to my first cold beer, I had a burger in town so I didn't feel like drinking once I returned to the ol' hacienda, I was still too full. Now it's starting to cool down outside, sure was a scorcher today... no end in sight either. 🥵

Edit: Dademoss, I spent 88 days searching listings before I found this place outside Alamogordo, and 109 days total living out of a tent with three cats. Between the crazy market and the investment groups, finding a home nowadays is a real chore. If you see something you like, you gotta act fast, otherwise it'll be gone... :(
I have been to the Walmart nearest to @Wingnut - I can confirm that the parking lot there needs "Enter at your own risk" signs.

I've been busy with work for a few days. I'm in north Missouri and it's hotter than blazes here. The bugs are bad too. After work, I just want to eat, shower, and sleep so my forum time has been pretty minimal.

I requested vacation today. I want to take my daughter to Okiboji in August. Neither of us has ever been there. After that I want to take her to the Mega Mall on the south side of the Twin Cities. After all, what 17 year old girl wouldn't want to go to a giant mall with a sea life aquarium in it?😁

Chick #8 just hatched. Neighbor brought over 3 dz ears of sweetcorn, said he'd bring over lots more if I want it. So another 5 dz should do. Some whole in the freezer, and some to freeze off the cob.
You can have our heat, too, Pearl if you think it's fun. Saturday is supposed to be only in the 80's, so I hope it's so.
98° here Saturday?? I really do LOVE it when it's 110°! I don't know why!?🤔

Oh, you're a sick puppy, Pearl. It was 98 here today and yuck. Tomorrow rain and in the 80's. Maybe. The weather forecast is not always right around here. But that would be a good cage cleaning day, and maybe get some run wire up. We'll see.
Name calling is not necessary!!😮 I worked outside in this today. Got home at 2:15, neighbor cows had my fence down. Drove 5 t-posts and ran barbed wire. Sweaty, yucky, in the sun!! Loved it?!

I love the heat too Pearl, but its been a bit too humid lately. About 80% for a month, slimy weather.

This morning my laptop went on the fritz. Had an eye appointment in the big town this afternoon. Nice doctor, and cute! She even went out in the parking lot so I could point out some medicine plants by her office. Funny, doctors as a group seem more interested in med plants than the average joe.

Had ordered some cables for pickup at besbi. Should have looked at the laptops but was exhausted for serious shopping. Got mine there, it was a box return with a yr warranty for $150. Wasn't much of a laptop, only lasted 3yrs. Got the cables I ordered and a new mouse, they were marked down.

Picked up dinner and came home. Watching a little tv tonight.
