I suggested rented tents for my friend's wedding. The local Lion's Club is way too small to fit 70 people and it would be too expensive to rent out. The fiance told me the theme is black, red, white, & gold and "romantic gothic". Not sure what the latter part is, but I can work with colors and I have a brooch as a gift for her. A gold spider with red crystal. She likes spiders, octopi, and critter stuff. I'm supposed to meet with her today to bring over some of my jewelry that I'll never wear again to see if she wants any of it. I was going to give her a jade ring but my mother claimed it. It no longer fits my fingers but it fits hers. She's been wearing the past few days. I'm willing to take photos for my friend's wedding if he wants. It will give me something to do so I won't be bored out of my damn mind. I do hope someone else can take video. Also hoping his fiance's ex & his people don't try to come around to cause trouble. I'll act as a bouncer if need be. I may be short and not so strong anymore but I will still knock someone on their behind if they try to mess with my friends.

Took the doggies for a short walk this morning and took some photos outside. I wish the moon photos had come out better but it still looked cool.

I saw Mom come out of her room so she will probably want food soon. I need to go to the store and get more eggs. I didn't anticipate my brother eating them and now we only have 1 egg left. I'll have to take the trash out when I go.

Hope everyone is having a good morning.

Spent the day cooking! Though I think I've eaten more than my share of sausage rolls 🤢
Late night last night as husband went playing cards so I collected him so he could have a cider or two. One son is making a trifle now, the other made two cheesecakes for the first time, and the girls cleaned a bit. Any family I have in the country are all coming tomorrow; so there will be at least 20 of us. Just realised I probably don't have enough cutlery :D Going to spend the evening in front of the fire, eating and watching a music show to ring in the New Year.
May I wish you all a happy, safe, warm and lucky 2024!

I have slept in New Years for many years. Blame it on a painful break up when I was young, on New Years Day. It's become a routine. But not that I haven't woken up to fireworks on New Years Eve. I have almost every year, but I roll over and go back to sleep.

For me, cooking a lovely meal on NY day is a much better thing! Daughter and friends will come over and eat and share Martinelli's sparkling cider with us.

Big boy came in Friday and I’m too sick to go push rocks around with it.

We made it back home in one day!
DW decided to shoot the moon and drive all the way back in one trip.
Trust me, when you get older, sitting in a car seat for 13 hours straight is not the same as when you are young. gaah
We went to a lot of nice restaurants while we were up there and apparently my cell phone ate too much.:(
Riding home in my shirt pocket, the battery is now twice normal size and popped the back off:

Good thing I rarely use it, because it be 'los muertos':(.
When my phone did that, I was told it over charged.
I have the I-phone#12 now, it will not do that because of a "shut off chip" their words. Some kind of Diode or what-you- call-it thingly.

Hope you get feeling better soon HB.

We had brunch with some old friends at a nice restaurant we enjoy. Eggs Benedict. Those were really good.
I had a couple gift cards from work, one for safety, one for my 15 year anniversary there. But they limit you to certain places instead of one you can use anywhere. I picked REI, stopped by today and got a new backpack I've been wanting. Also got a small SoloStove. We'll use it on the porch thru the winter.
Got back home and since it was a nice afternoon decided to set out on the porch and smoke a stoogie and listen to some music. When i got out there it was nice and sunny. By the time I finished sun had set and temps had dropped from 55 to about 45 and the wind picked up. Wife got a pic of me. And I didn't break her camera this time. LOL
Just gonna set around here and read some, listen to some more music. Always talk to my mom and sis at midnight, family tradition from my grandpa and his brother from long ago.
Happy new year everyone.

Wow. I feel sad for the hawk but that's just nature. The chickens needed to survive.
Took some jewelry I will never wear over to my friend's house and let his fiance pick through what she wanted. She only picked a few things and some she will wear at her wedding.

@hashbrown y’all got one tough homestead. :confused2:
@Bacpacker didn’t think you’d ever post an up to date photo of yourself! Now we know. Nice shot!

Church earlier. Watching ncis. Waiting to hear some good news.
Hearing fireworks, hope the dog does okay.
Not planning to go anywhere, safer at home and off the roads.

Today I have been playing around with the Vitamix I got for Christmas. The wife got me some fancy-schmancy one that is not only a blender, but it has a food processor setup in the bundle too. And she bought some "small blending cup" add-on accessory as well. So I've been reading manuals, playing with the parts to see how they all fit together, and doing the initial washing of all the components.

I think I'll go search out some smoothie recipes now, and come up with one of those to make for tomorrows dinner get-together.

Went to church earlier- good service. Have been working on getting pictures out of boxes and into albums. It’s not a fun task. It will be nice not to have boxes of miscellaneous photos stacked up in the spare room as clutter. I am getting the pix in the books, then can go back through and add names, event or whatever captions needed. I’m just tired of the clutter.

Happy new year everyone.
OMG...Thank that little lady!! Great Picture!!♥️♥️♥️

@LadyLocust Happy New Year!! nah, nothing outrageous or punky. My hair has stayed the same color most of my life, but I decided to mix it up, with the convincing of my stylist. It softened the darker colors, definitely made me look different, plus the cut. Where was @Pearl ?
Bacpacker you are not ugly.
@Pearl sorry for knucklehead neighbors. That wasn't the dumb ones who put their waste over your property line and let the dogs run loose on your property?

You can grind grains and it spins so fast that it heats up food! I think the warranty is three years that they will replace it if something happens to it.
Daughter makes a smoothie almost everyday with hers.

Jake went outside to take the dog out and saw a big commotion in the chicken pen. The rooster and a few more hens were killing a hawk! These chickens raised in the woods are no joke!

I've caught crows breaking eggs and eating them, they fly into the nests for a snack.

Above the nests I hang the green neon fishing line in loops. Crows hate it and will stay away. (I also hang it above sprouting corn in the garden, use electric fence posts and hand the fishing line directly above the corn, works great)

Don't know if it'll work on hawks or owls but i've never had trouble with either. Raccoon are my mortal enemy though...

A quiet day but a major laundry day. Need another plastic tote next trip to town. My 3bdrm house doesn't have closets except one in the bathroom. I keep sheets, tble cloths etc in wide shallow totes in the laundry rm. I have to use a lot of totes for low use items, no closet shelves...

Regular work day for me! Cool but sunny today! Have some extra jobs this week so I need to get my cleaning supplies in order and the carpet cleaner ready! Long night of fireworks! The neighbors up on the next road that had the ground explosion with injuries also hit a passing vehicle with their fireworks 🙄! My friend (her son is a volunteer firefighter here) said the fire dept had 186 calls between 2:45pm through 3:30am! Good lord there are a lot of IDIOTS moving out this way!!

Hanging out here today, doing some cleaning. Playing some games tonight with little granddaughter, staying up till midnight, got some party hats ready. Making rumaki for husband, his traditional New Years Eve snack that I've been making for 40 yrs. This December has been the worst, and I'll be happy to see it go. December 2020 was horrible, too...husband and I had covid delta and pretty much missed Christmas then, too. Ready for 2024. I think.
Happy New year and hope you have a better year!

My bad year was 2019, our 24 was not too bad

Happy New year!

Will make some phone calls today to wish my relatives in Europe happy new year
Debating on if the animals should go out today , it's very cold ( low 20s) and flurries. The goats are not a problem, I can just leave the barn door open, but the sheep are on the other side of the road from the barn. They do have a small shelter. I guess they go out for at least a while

Not much else planned, feeding the stove , debating on lighting the livingroom one too

Happy 2024, yesterday the wife's meds finally settled down and she regained some of her strength; so we made casseroles using a mix of spaghetti sauce and pasta shells. We ended up placing 4 casseroles in the freezer. Then I did the dishes, I didn't want to start the new year with a kitchen full of dirty dishes. We watched an old movie together (Father Goose) and greeted the new year by blowing an old plastic horn (family tradition).

I hope that this year goes well for everyone here, I think we could all use a good year. :)

I cooked 3 messes of collards last night for a potluck today. Glad I got 3 as they surely cook down.
Woke up at 3:30 to smoke alarm chirping. Got up and changed battery.
I'll walk in a few minutes.
Start laundry.
Help DH with some ebay listings.
Go to potluck and package and freeze whatever collards are left.
